<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Pacers and the Nets are more than just sparring partners Monday afternoon at the Meadowlands. They are two teams Tim Thomas thinks he could be playing for by season's end. Exiled by the Bulls, Thomas has been working out in New York while waiting at the Trump Plaza apartment for word of his next NBA job NBA. The 28-year-old did not say why he thought Indiana and his native New Jersey would wind up with him or how either team would trade for his $11 million contract . </div> http://www.northjersey.com/page.php?qstr=e...2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk2
Does he still have beef with the Nets? I know Martin is gone, but Collins is still here. If you get him, good luck!
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting MrJ:</div><div class="quote_post">Does he still have beef with the Nets? I know Martin is gone, but Collins is still here. If you get him, good luck!</div> What beef? I can't remember what happened.
2 years ago, first round playoffs, Collins made a HARD foul on Thomas that lead to injury. The Nets went on to sweep the Knicks. The only reason the Nets would do this is to get some cap relief. He does provide some scoring, but that's about it. It doesn't seem logical, because Kidd wants to win not in only in the future, but right now. I really feel for Kidd, and right now we don't have a championship caliber team. It would be illogical to trade him though, because then Carter might end up complaining and be reminiscent of his later days in Toronto. The only logical move for the Nets to make is to get a solid PF, who can provide good defense, rebounding, and who can run the floor. I think they should push for Gadzuric, Wilcox, or Ely as soon as possible.
It'd be interesting if he joined. Tim Thomas could've been like McGrady (at best), Rashard Lewis (realistically) if he actually put any effort into his game. Obviously he stated that he wanted to join, so I don't there would be a problem between him and Twin and Twin does not seem like the guy to go start fights or abuse. However, TT has always been a lazy bum. He has all the tools, atheltics, a good jumper, and handles. His passing is not great and his defense is horrendous..just never put any effort. But at 28, and if he's determined to make an Eddie Griffin like return, he could be big for us. We could play small ball with him at the PF and just play some Suns basketball. But its all really up to him if he wants to play or he just wants a contract and play his mediocre game.
Tim Thomas is a baby, and he will likely find away to blow this opportunity, if we did give him a chance to prove himself in this league once again. But with that being said, I say give him a shot. At this point, we are a veteran bunch, so any stunt he tries to pull wouldnt effect the team chemstry of this team, the nucleus is to strong for that. And honestly at his worst, he will give us more then Murray and Padgett, well maybe not Padgett, cause Padgett at least hustles. But honestly, our forward positions off the bench besides Cliff have been dissappointment. If TT can give us quality 15mpg off the bench without being a distraction then its a major upgrade from what we have now.
I agree Thomas could be valuable if he wasn't a distraction, but I doubt that will happen. Everywhere he's gone he's used tons of excuses to justify the way he plays. In Philadelphia he said he wasn't given a chance. In Milwaukee he said his growth was stunted because of the big three: Allen, Cassell, and Robinson. When he was with the Knicks he said Marbury never passed him the ball. I just think he'll serve as a big distraction and with the Nets trying to make some noise this year, Thomas isn't the guy he want around. Who knows what will happen in Jersey. He might say something like Kidd never passed me the ball.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">He might say something like Kidd never passed me the ball. </div> Yea, or Carter shoots too much.
Carter shoot to much does seem like something he would end up saying, he doesnt feel comfortable playing alongside guys that take 20 shots a game, thats his excuse for things not working at those other stops pretty much. But like I said, I dont think his distractions are strong enough to effect this team. Think about it for a 2nd...In New York they lacked a defined leader and leadership. And in Milwuakee, he was more of a distraction for things he said after he left the team, not really while he was there. Even though he was apart of that 01 Bucks team that fell apart after making the Eastern Conference finals, the real reason that team feel apart was guys no long was buying what Coach Karl was selling. And the big three's ego's had more of a damanging effect then anything else. Tim Thomas' biggest problem is making excuses for his lack of success after he leaves a situation. Anyway, TT could potentially help...but if he isnt wearing a Nets uniform by the end of the year, he isnt someone that I would say to myself "damn, we missed out on a great opportunity". Last year, at times I said that about Eddie Griffin, because of the shot blocking pressence he was for them at times. And still is...and to know we dont have that type of presense on our roster now. So I would think to myself at times last year, if we would have kept him threw his troubles, he could have provided a low post defensive presense.
It wouldn't be a bad missed opportunity. If he wants to come here and be the 2nd man on offense, I would shut the door on this right now. We need a spark off the bench, and if TT is willing to accept that role, then sign him up, but I do not want him to come in here thinking he can be better than RJ as a scorer. I think these last few games really show how important RJ is to this team. VC has to work so much harder for his shots and Jason Kidd was not having an easy time controlling the game. THen there was the lack of scoring. Back spasms seem to be the new trend of the NBA, and with RJ driving so much I can see future problems. Someone needs to easen up RJ's load. And I don't think TT is exactly it..
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting NbaBaller:</div><div class="quote_post">Yea, or Carter shoots too much.</div> or lawrence frank is a "fugazy" LOL. Anyway, no thanks. There's a reason why Knicks fans boo him.
Tim Thomas doesn't do anything exceptionally well. Cap relief is great, but you should only take advantage of it if there is a free agent that you want to use the extra relief on.
