4.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.03 blocks per game, and 38.3% from the free throw line. I was expecting Tyson Chandler to break out this year. What's going on with him? I know he has asthma, but I'm pretty sure that's not the reason for his slump. Is it just a bad year for him? I'm concerned; he was one of my favorite players on the Bulls last year.
Several things are taking place that are out of his control, and have caused him to struggle. For the first part of the year he was suffering from a sports hernia which caused him to tire quickly, and be inefficient in the time he was on the court. As soon as he recovered from that he sprained his ankle. So you can say that injuries have plagued him this year, but for the most part I blame the organization. The team i asking way to much from Chandler by making him the vocal point of the teams offense down low. Lets face it Tyson Chandler was more a defensive threat then a dominant scorer even when the team had Curry. Now you are telling him to go out there draw double teams and be a offensive threat? Your asking way to much from the man, and not giving him enough to work with. If the Bulls hope to repeat last seasons success they need to sign a free agent big man, or look into possible trades. Keeping Chandler as a center for the rest of the season would be a horrible choice. The team might just wait until the end of the season however and draft Aldridge in the NBA draft or a big man who can score down low, and will have an immediate impact. Though he is 7’1” Chandler is not a true center. He is a great defender when defending power forwards because of his height. With his body frame I don’t think he can be as efficient banging around down low with the Shaquille O’Neal’s of the league.
Chandler hasn't gotten much playing time, either. He doesn't have much of an offensive game, and I don't really know if he's willing to improve it. His defense is not bad though. Obviously he should have gone to play college ball instead of coming straight to the NBA.

Never have they asked Chandler to be a focal point on offense. I haven't seen a lot of games of the bulls in person, but i have never seen the Bulls run a play for him. And both paxson and Skiles have gone out of their way to insist that they are not asking chandler to do things he's not suited for. Face it, chandler is having a horrible year, and most of it is his own fault (conditioning, not working on his game this summer,...). Let's nog forget the injuries could be a direct consequence of his lack of work during the summer. For that, you just have to look at the previous seasons. I do agree that his current role doesn't suit him. He needs a scorer down low that attracts the attention of defenses, so he can play off that guy. But at 60+ milion a year, excuse the fans for expecting something more.

Although, his minutes where limited due to the hernia when he was on the court they where looking at him. I don?t even think it was necessarily, because they wanted him to score, but they wanted him to draw double teams like Curry did something he is not good at, nor has ever been.
