<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">UF GETS NO.1 VOTE: As it has been all season, Duke ranked No. 1 in The Associated Press college basketball poll Monday. But this week, the Blue Devils weren't a unanimous choice. One of three unbeaten teams in Division I, Duke (16-0) received all but one first-place vote from the 72-member national media panel. The other No. 1 nod went to the No. 2 Gators (16-0) after a week in which 11 ranked teams lost, two of them twice. John Kaltefleiter of The Athens (Ga.) Banner-Herald switched his No. 1 vote from Duke to UF. "I like Florida a lot, and I thought about it over the weekend after I saw quite a bit of the Duke-Clemson game," Kaltefleiter said Monday. "I know the game was in Clemson and Duke won by 10 points, but Clemson gave them fits in some areas. I've seen Florida a lot, and it is something totally different from last year as far as chemistry is concerned. "There is no big man running the floor right now as well as Joakim Noah, and Lee Humphrey can shoot. He may not be J.J. Redick, but he can shoot. This may be one of Billy Donovan's closest-knit teams as far as chemistry, and I think Duke will lose before they do. Florida was very, very impressive. I thought there would be more people who would switch. I was surprised I was the only one."</div> http://www.alligator.org/pt2/060117hoops.php at the very bottom after they show Richard's article.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting J_Ray:</div><div class="quote_post">LMAO, it's only one, they need 71 more.......</div> Actually we just need 36 more to get 37 and have the most 1st place votes....
This clown just wanted to make a name for himself by being the contrarian voice in the voting polls. His rational for giving Florida a number one pick makes no sense at all. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"I think Duke will lose before they do."</div> Huh? Rankings should not be based on what may occur later on in the season. It has to be based on what has actually taken place. I think he needs to be replaced from the 72 man panel. Comments and voting like this just destroys the credibility of these polls.

I don't really agree, even being a Gator, but his speculation was based on how they are currently playing, not on what he thinks will happen. j

The strength of schedule for Florida and Duke is night and day. I'm not going to assume Florida would have lost to some of those teams, but the fact they don't have the resume Duke has should make it clear that Duke is the better team.
It's not that bad that 1 out of 70 votes for Florida. I think if things were really fair you'd have even more, like 10. Don't you think Florida has at least like... 1/7 of a claim to first?
my goodness, I know this is off-topc, but I really feel sorry for Savannah State. This team has won 1 game in the last two years and they had to go into Florida and take a beating from the Gators tonight. I can't believe a division 1 team really wanted to schedule an opponent that they're guaranteed to beat by at least 40. But anyways, it's obvious this guy just wants attention and he's really making hisself look stupid, IMO...

On paper, it seems like a hopeless mismatch. The Gators, ranked No. 2 in the country and currently holding an RPI rating of 8, faced Savannah State - a team that ranks 333 out of 334 teams in the RPI. The Tigers' lone victory this year: a 63-59 game against NAIA Division-II Wilberforce, an Ohio school boasting an enrollment of 1,180. And in reality, it is a hopeless mismatch. The Tigers don't have a player on their roster taller than 6-foot-7. The Gators have seven players at least that tall, three of whom start. So what it adds up to is a game that has been decided since the instant it was scheduled, and the only question that remains is how many points UF wants to add to the scoreboard once the game tips off tonight at 7 p.m. in the O'Connell Center. "This game is probably, since I've been here, a little bit out of character," UF coach Billy Donovan said. "I've generally liked to, when the league play starts, to stay inside of our league." Because the Gators played in an exempt tournament this season, the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, those four games counted as just one towards the NCAA maximum, allowing the scheduling of extra games. Donovan said that tonight's game was scheduled after the Gators had begun their Southeastern Conference schedule because it was the only mutual date available between the two schools, and it would have proven difficult to fit in all 14 non-conference games prior to the start of league play. While not much appears to be riding on the outcome, a win tonight would wrap up a 14-0 non-conference season, marking the first time the Gators have gone undefeated outside of the SEC during Donovan's 10 years as coach. Though the Gators have faced some major-conference competition such as Syracuse, Wake Forest and Miami on the road, UF's home pre-conference schedule, including teams such as Morgan State and Jacksonville, has featured only two teams with winning records. "When you're going to play against another school from another quote-unquote high major conference, there is some negotiating and bargaining," Donovan said. "Where does it want to start? Some teams would rather play neutral site games or they'd rather play home games." Donovan said it is imperative to have a major non-conference opponent come to Gainesville next year. "I think next year, or very, very soon, we need to have a quality team in the non-conference come into this building," Donovan said. "And that's something we're trying to do as best we can." Donovan also said the Gators' non-conference schedule wasn't a result of his team's apparent lack of experienced personnel this season. But drawing from his experiences as an assistant at Kentucky, Donovan feels that a glut of marquee matchups early in the season leaves a team spent by the end of the season. "Sometimes I thought the non-conference schedule was so top-heavy that by the time we got to February that our kids were emotionally drained and exhausted," Donovan said of his former Wildcats teams. "And there's got to be a level of balance that makes sense for the players, for the program, for the fans, for everybody."</div> btw, I feel bad for Savannah State too. I wish we woulda scheduled anyone other than them. We beat them by 51 with our starters not even getting half of the game. Our freshman both had good nights with 18 for Hodge and 15 for Huertas. The walkons even got 10+ mins for us. They were sooooooooo small too.

No one is giving us a chance at all, everyone says we'll get knocked out early. I know we are overrated, I know we don't deserve ot be #2. You don't have to convince me of that, I'm not that biased. I do believe we are what our RPI says we are, #8, we are definetely top 10.
