This is Memphis' last real test until the big dance and they hold a 66-65 lead with a little under 9 minutes remaining.

    Let's go Vols! [IMG]

First of all, Dane Bradshaw is the best player in college basketball. Laugh it up if you want, but he dominated the game, and I know from personal experience playing against him, if he were three or four inches taller, he'd be a top five pick. 21 points, 10 rebounds, 6 steals tonight for the 6-4 tall PG/C (he plays everything). Amazing...

Second of all, Memphis really got a huge burst of momentum after a string of horrible calls without about four minutes left and came away with the win, and that's the worst way to see a team steal a W. This team's really overrated. Their ball movement is horrible, they rely on their three point shot too much, their overall shot selection is just horrible, and they don't really have that high of an IQ for the game collectively; just a bunch of really young and athletic kids randomly put onto a basketball court. They'll get slaughtered in the Tournament... but that's not really anything new.

I don't have a problem with it but you seem to care a lot about teams being "overrated." [IMG] Especially Memphis and Florida, hehe.

    Well, it's true...

You'd have a problem with Memphis being overrated if you were told every day how Memphis is the best team in the nation. I can't even listen to sports radio down here anymore; so one-sided.

The Florida thing... it doesn't bug you seeing them at #2? Not even in the slightest?

No it doesn't. I honestly hope we never go up to #1 until the end of the tournament after we win it. [IMG] When we've been #1 we are 1-3 in our history. I believe I saw somewhere where we were like 13-1 at the #2 spot. Voodoo, we got a tough test on Saturday, so you can probably brag about how overrated we are after we get down with the Tennessee game.

They played their hearts out, but came up short.

That won't happen on Saturday though.

    Damn straight.

You ever played the guy one on one? You don't think these guys are that good because they're not getting that good of numbers on the college scene, but then you play them personally, and they dominate everyone in the gym. When Bradshaw was at White Station, there wasn't a player in the state better than him.

He's a really underrated player just because he doesn't force shots. He does win though. Three straight state titles and consecutive national top 25 seasons as the go-to-guy at WHS are evidence of that.

Here's a nice article on him - "(Battier)'s the ultimate team player," said Bradshaw, a former White Station High star, who'll lead the 11-2 Vols into Memphis on Wednesday night to play the No. 4 Tigers. "Every team would love to have him."

Coaches around the Southeastern Conference are saying the same thing about Bradshaw, a junior. When they learn that Bradshaw has made the transformation from a 6-4 point guard to a starting power forward -- a drastic position change on any level of basketball -- they can't wait to see him in person.

When they do, they observe a player they hate to play against, but someone they'd love to have on their team. Someone, like a Battier, who plays with intelligence, toughness, fearlessness and unselfishness.

"Whether it's on film or live, you just appreciate Dane on how he fills up a stat sheet in other ways than scoring," Tennessee first-year coach Bruce Pearl said. "As good as everybody else is playing for us, he's important per possession. He gets steals, he has the best assist-to-turnover ratio in the SEC, he rebounds, he can handle the ball and he hits threes."

    http://www.commercialappeal.com/mca/basket...e+station&hl=en

Now check this article out. In LeBron's senior year, Bradshaw lead WHS to a #6 ranking... NATIONALLY, and take my word for it, he was the whole reason they even won their division; he carried that team.

    "6. White Station (Memphis, Tenn.) – (36-2) *6
White Station knocked off Bradley Central, 55-39, in the Class AAA state championship game, as Dane Bradshaw was named MVP of the state tournament after scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in the finals. However, White Station finishes behind No. 5 McQuaid (N.Y.) in the rankings after losing to McQuaid earlier this season.
    Preseason Ranking: No. 15"

I respect him big time, I'm not disrespecting him or anything. I've never seen him play, but from what it sounds like he plays with heart and hustle, that's all that you can ask for out of a player. I would love to have everyone on my team to have heart and hustle. Just because he hustles and just because you played against him doesn't mean he's the best player in the nation though. [IMG] You could say he's one of the most versatile players in the nation though....

Wow, you guys are sure reading a hell of a lot into a half-serious comment I made. I say one of my friends is the best player in the nation... not because he's the best player in the nation, but because he's a friend. Then you go take a shot at him by bringing up his stats. What's that all about?

I don't think he meant any disrespect, he was just responding taking the "best player in the nation" comment at face value.

Its funny that a bunch of young kids with no basketball IQ are holding oponents to around 37% from the field, which ranks top five nationaly. They also have won a couple of games this season. Pretty surprising if you ask me.

Field goal percentage defense doesn't tell everything about a team's defense, and it sure as hell doesn't tell much about hoops IQ. In the Gonzaga game for example, the Bulldogs shot about 35% from the field, but they were getting open shot after open shot, just not being able to convert them. That percentage had to do with their inability to hit the shots rather than Memphis' defensive pressure. A good shooting team would tear up Memphis' defensive, kind of like how Duke did when they shot 49% against the Tigers. Besides, the problem I have with their hoops IQ is more on the offensive end. Their shot selection is horrible. They rush shots, and they have no clock awareness. When you have a small lead over a team, it's not a smart move to come down and throw up a contested three pointer with nearly twenty seconds on the shot-clock.

By the way, you could drop the word "hoops" from "hoops IQ", and the statement still fits. When was the last time Memphis graduated the majority of their players, or just two players for that matter? One of my teachers in High School used to play for the Tigers, and according to him, when he graduated, he was the first player in 18 years to have done so. Hell, Rodney Carney would be at Indiana right now if he could meet the academic requirements, and Indiana isn't that tough of a school to get into. That's not a low blow towards the university. It's just that if you don't have a lot going on upstairs in general, you're probably not going to make good decisions.

Funny you say that now that they have graduated 8 or 9 of there last 11 seniors, do some research before you talk. Who was your teacher in highschool?

    Do some research?

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Graduation rate for Memphis, UT basketball below national average

NASHVILLE (AP) -- Only a quarter of University of Memphis basketball players who entered school between 1995 and 1999 graduated within six years.

The NCAA released its graduation success rate report Monday</div>

    http://www.wate.com/Global/story.asp?S=426...&nav=menu7_2_10

And that doesn't even count the players who turned pro early, who probably wouldn't have graduated. That's just sad, and it's one of the nation's worst graduation rates. What's sadder is that it's a big improvement. Before Calipari came to Memphis, there was a 0% graduation rate. Reading USA Today, the 25% graduation rate that everyone around Memphis is so proud of, is actually the second worst in the nation for a major program at the time, with only Nevada having a lower rate. Villanova, Illinois, Wake Forest, and Florida? They were at 100%. Even Indiana University, a school not usually known for their academics, was at 91%.

    So there's your research...

Oh yeah, and my high school teacher was Bubba Luckett. He was on the team from 1979 to 1983, the Keith Lee days.
