<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">There is no comparison in Larry Brown's mind between Antonio Davis' journey into the stands and the infamous brawl in Detroit last season.

Davis left the court and climbed into the stands to reach his wife, Kendra. The Knicks forward was ejected from the game without further trouble Wednesday night during the Chicago Bulls' 106-104 overtime victory against New York.

"Come on, that's his wife," Brown said. "That's entirely different. I was worried about Kendra. That's why he went in the stands, he saw her falling back.

"That thing that happened in the stands had nothing to do with the two teams. That's a man concerned about his family."

After Davis ascended about 10 rows of seats in the stands, there was no physical confrontation, but several people were pointing and shouting for a few moments before security arrived.

Davis, president of the NBA players' association, appeared calm throughout and walked away willingly as soon as security arrived. He returned to the bench and took his seat before being ejected. The game resumed after about a five-minute delay.

"I witnessed my wife being threatened by a man that I learned later to be intoxicated," Davis said in a statement issued after the game. "I saw him touch her, and I know I should not have acted the way I did, but I would have felt terrible if I didn't react. There was no time to call security. It happened too quickly." </div>

I'm not married, but I think about what I would do if I saw someone attacking my mom. I'd easily give up my career and any amount of money for her safety. Antonio Davis didn't do anything that was overkill, he could have easily gone into the stands and beaten the man to a pulp. Instead he insured his wife's safety and then went back onto the court.

He should be suspended to reinterate the message about players not entering the stands, but it should be a minimal suspension.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with what Davis did. But by not censuring him in some way, that might encourage players to go into the stands for less noble reasons. I agree -- a minimal suspension is warranted.

I dont see anything wrong with what Davis did but NBA needs to stop it from happening and I understand the minimum suspension they should be giving him.

Greg Anthony made a good point on Sportscenter about having specific areas for the players family to sit.

why wasnt his wife sitting like right behind him like most people's wifes and family members are?

One game the Pistons had, Lebron's ass was sitting 3 seats away from the Pistons bench, haha, but that is Lebron James....

I agree with the rest of you, minimum suspension for going into the stands. The comparison to Artest's situation isn't even close. AD entering the stands didn't set off a riot, he just wanted to protect his wife and son.

I think the league needs to sit down with the players and brainstorm on solutions to handle these situations. For example, instead of running into the stands to help a family member or friend, grab security, point to the direction of your family and let them do their job.

Antonio Davis is one of the most upstanding player sin the NBA, the man is the definition of a role model in the way he carries himself, and acts around players, media, and fans. He was completely justified in what he did even Stern said he would have done the same thing. Family is the most important thing to people, basketball is just a game. With that said the security in the arena is horrible if that had been Artest in the stands someone would have been dead before the security showed up. Watching this live I was just wondering what happened to that beefed of security that the league supposable added after the Detroit/Indiana brawl. Davis was suspended for five games, but he did what any man would have done in that situation.

players just cant hook up their family/friends any seats, they had to buy tickets and go by the rules, same thing goes to curry, he had about 35 friends/family members attended that game, and none of them are by the courtside, q-rich probably had some friends in the crowd too

Time for the players' union to step up and do its job. True, the teams travel
with adequate security and the arenas have adequate security and there must have been multiple statements taken from local police who have a magistrate in large public arenas, as well as statements taken by teams' security. But if he truly saw his wife appearing to be in trouble, then the rule
can carry varying levels of enforcement. If the facts bear out Antonio, and his wife is credible, then his suspension should be reduced to 2 games. No games? That would be an unfortunate precedent.
