<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Press Release - New York Knicks forward Antonio Davis has been suspended five games without pay for entering the spectator stands, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Senior Vice President Basketball Operations. "We have made it plain to our players and our fans that players may not enter the spectator stands, no matter the provocation, and that violations of this policy will be treated with the utmost seriousness," Jackson said. "We have concluded, however, that Antonio's actions were the result of his belief that his family members required his immediate assistance, and have taken those mitigating circumstances into account in setting the length of the suspension."</div> http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives...ntering_stands/
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post">5 games !?! Far too, harsh a penalty by Stern and the league. I thought 2 games was fair enough.</div> Yeah, Ray Allen and Dooling feel into the stands while fighting and Ray only got 3 games. It was accidental, but they were in the stands nonetheless. To Davis I'm sure he disagrees but feels that it was worth it to ensure his family's safety.
just heard on the radio that the fan who AD thought was attacking his wife is suing his family because ad's wife scratched him for a million
this is not fair!! anybody would protect his wife/family!!!!! i would do the same thing too if i was in his situation!!! MATTER OF FACT, I WOULD PUSH THAT DRUNK DUDE AWAY FROM MY FAIMLY, EVEN TAKE SOME ACTIONS TOO, put david stearn in there and his family in the 10th row, and they are being threatended by some drunk ************ see what the **** he would do
Sternbot is a dictator. This isn't fair at all, in my opinion, but it is a reasonable length of time. I guess if Stern's wife (if he even has one) was involved in an altercation in the stands he wouldn't do anything about it? Any sane person would have done the same thing AD did.

horrible.. 5 games? maybe 1-2 at the most, personally I wouldn't have punished him at all. The NBA does have image problems, but punishing a man concerned with his family's safety doesn't help the NBA's image at all... 3-5 day punishment for players fighting, 5 days for a man helping his wife? He obviously did not go up the stands with menacing gestures, there was guy sitting next to his wife and once he realized what was going on, he started to wave to the cameras, obviously not feeling threatened by the situation. What a disappointment...
For everybody criticizing Stern for the suspension. You need to find out the details Stern actually said he would have done the same thing if put in Davis? situation. The thing is a rule is a rule, and it cannot just be ignored. To tell you the truth five games is actually a short length compared to what a player would have gotten if he had simple gone into the stands without being under the impression his wife was in trouble. Davis actually went to Stern?s office to talk to him about it, since Davis is the president of the players association, I think he came out pretty good. I think it is a fair amount of time do I think he should be suspended, or is in the wrong? No, of course not anyone would have done the same. However, do I understand where Stern is coming from? Yes.
