<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Seattle SuperSonics coach Bob Hill met with Detlef Schrempf to discuss an assistant coaching position, and an announcement is expected today as to whether Schrempf will join Jack Sikma and Ralph Lewis.
Hill said he also is trying to contact former Sonics assistant Tom Newell, son of Pete Newell, to see if he is interested in a role with the team.

Schrempf has spent the past two days at the team?s training facility. He said Wednesday he would be interested in joining Hill ? who coached Schrempf in Indiana in the early 1990s ? under the right circumstances.

Schrempf worked as a part-time assistant under former coach Bob Weiss during this season?s training camp, ostensibly to find out if coaching intrigued him.

At the time, Schrempf had interest in coaching the Sonics only because he did not want to leave the area. He had talked to ex-coach Nate McMillan about joining his staff.

When McMillan went to Portland, Schrempf wasn?t interested in joining him because he had a bad experience playing for the Trail Blazers.

Schrempf, who starred at the University of Washington, played for the Sonics for six seasons, averaging 16.6 points and 6.3 rebounds in 415 games.

Newell, meanwhile, was an assistant under Bernie Bickerstaff from 1986 to 1990. He currently works for the NBA evaluating officials. </div>

If we add Gus Williams to the staff our coaches could beat our current team.

I love Detlef, but why not hire a more experienced coach?
