<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">LOS ANGELES -- Wilt Chamberlain's record 100-point game seemed unreachable from the time he accomplished the feat nearly 44 years ago.

    Perhaps it's not.

Maybe Kobe Bryant can do it.

"I guess it's possible. I don't know, bro'. It's unthinkable," the Los Angeles Lakers' star said.

So was 81. At least before Sunday night.

But Bryant, so often unstoppable, was better than ever against the Toronto Raptors, scoring 28 of his team's 31 points in the fourth quarter to reach the second-highest single-game total in NBA history.

"Not even in my dreams," he said.

Chamberlain scored 100 points when basketball was a far different game, accomplishing the feat for Philadelphia against the New York Knicks at Hershey, Pa., on March 2, 1962.

There was no 3-point shot -- not that it would have mattered since Chamberlain was a 7-footer who dominated the middle.

The 6-6 Bryant made seven from outside the arc.

Defense was generally an afterthought when Chamberlain played, not that the Raptors are much good at it now, ranking near the bottom of the league in that department.

Whatever the case, both performances were astonishing.

Chamberlain shot 36-of-63 from the field and 28-of-32 from the foul line while playing all 48 minutes. He averaged an NBA-record 50.4 points per game that season. </div>

I think its possible for Kobe Bryant, you never know if its in a competetive game and he goes off. And somehow they go to overtime or something it will be almost impossible but if anyone can accomplish it, I would have to bet my money on Kobe.

People People Peopl! Kobe had 55 points in the second half last night. If he gets 55 or 60 in the first half of any remaining games, I dont see why Phil shouldnt let him get to 100.

Honestly, it's very possible for Kobe to get to 100, easily. Will it happen? I don't know. If he didn't sit out for 6 minutes agaisnt Toronto in the second quarter, he probably would've had about 90-94 points. That leaves him 6 shy. If he would've turned it on earlier in the game, when he should've, he definitly would've had it.

Will it happen? Personally, I say yes. Sooner or later, that same situation will present itself and Kobe will have to step up again.

There's a part of me who wants this to happen, but on the flipside, it just means his teammates are failing miserably again. I know his teammates are proud of his accomplishment last night, but if they don't realize it's a reflection of how pathetic they are, then this team is doomed, or Odoomed.

The role players on this team need to start playing their roles and start supporting Kobe on a consistent basis. They cannot take games off, and they shouldn't even be taking a break on any plays if they want to make some noise in the post season. All these bad habits need to be corrected individually. One night you see major progress with this team, the next night you're asking yourself "How are these guys still in the league?"

I just wouldn't put it past Kobe and this team to see him get 100 points this season.

How ignorant are you.. This is basketball, not math. He can score 55 in the second half dosn't necessarily mean he can score 55 in the first half as well. Even if he does score 55 in the first half, it's not because he scored 55 in the 2nd half. 81PTS, A GREAT ACHIEVEMENT. this 81pts consist of kobe's talent, skills, support from teammates, luck and coincidence as well. He has proved he is a great player already. Why people expect him to get 100 or more. That is just ridiculous. He need to make his teammate play well too. He need to win the title and creat a lakers' dynasty again. But not scores like crazzzy.

I feel for you. If an 81 point game in 42 minutes doesnt make you atleast believe that kobe will attempt to get 100, then ignorance really applies to you my friend.

<font color="red">Don't bring Tmac into this and DO NOT make fun of his serious back injury. One spasms could possibly paralyze him, you keep it up and I'll make sure to it that you're suspended for 3 days.

I admit Kobe's achievement. T-MAC can score 62 but not 81. I just feel so ridiculous that your way of deducing how kobe is possible to get a hundred pts.

I don't think that is the right mentality. We can get to the 2nd round of the playoffs if we get the 6th seed. We are capable of being in every single game because of Kobe, alone. When winning something, anything presents itself, you take it.

Also, winning attracts players. If the Lakers start winning again, get into the playoffs, their offseason FA pool will look a lot better than if they were a lottery team.
