You know how we keep sayin we need a third scorer? Well luther head can be that man. I think vangundy should make his role take it to the hole pull ups instead of just spot up threes because if he does that it might bring up the rest of his game. Do you agree your thoughts?

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting TmacGarnett:</div><div class="quote_post">I'm looking at Juwan Howard being that guy.</div> The problem with Howard is he's a "high volume" scorer. He doesn't get to the line a lot, he doesn't shoot threes, and he's below average on 2s. I don't think he works well as a third scorer, as evident in the way he struggles when Yao and McGrady both play.
i don't know.. but if u think about anderson was our 3rd scorer during that road trip before he got injured... he was doing well.. but luther has to get use to of taking it to the hole... howard isn't wat u call a liable 3rd scorer...
third scorer = rafer, he can score about 18ppg once he gets comfortable in the system.. a lot of times he can play off the ball with tmac setting him up for an open 3. howard would be a good low-post option to go to when Yao's on the bench.

Right now, he's playing the role David Wesley played last year, but his shot selection is pretty bad. He's the type who would pass up a great shot for a good shot. He's not shy about firing, but I'd like to see him demonstrate some consistency before we give him a bigger role in the offense. Being a third scorer would mean being a starter, and I doubt Head can put up 15 a night against NBA starters. I also don't think Alston is that good an option as I'd like to see him look for his shot less and look for his teammates more. When he's been committed to passing first, he racks up a lot of assists, but when you give him the green light to score he would neglect passing the ball. I'd like to see him continue being the distributor. Derek Anderson I think will be the best option, although I don't like him starting over Wesley.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Derek Anderson I think will be the best option, although I don't like him starting over Wesley.</div> In my opinion, Anderson is fairly similar to Howard- he's a high volume scorer like Durvasa said. Anderson's an inefficient shooter and needs to take around ten plus shots to get around thirteen points. There's no point in having a third option if what he's doing is taking too many touches away from the dynamic duo. In addition, he needs to have the ball in his hands most of the time to score. We need someone that's effective and can just pop jumpers off screens. Or, we need someone that can grab rebounds off Yao's misses and put them back. That would have been Swift, but his lackadistical attitude just isn't cutting it.
I think Head can eventually be that 3rd scorer, but right now I think that role goes to Anderson,Raefer, or Howard.
BTW, from December on Luther Head is shooting only 31% from 3-point land (30.9% in December, and 30.6% in January). Maybe he isn't the great shooter he seemed to be in November.
luther head is like j.r. smith, when he gets the ball he shoots it, who cares about driving to the basket... this whats wrong with his game, he takes the jumpshots most of the times right after he receive the ball, it would be great if i will see him driving to the basket more, if he can do that he would be the man for 3rd scorer

We all know that he has the ability to make threes at a high clip, but when he was shooting 50% from beyong the arc in the first month, Yao was the focal point of the offense (with TMac out), and Head was getting a lot of open looks as a result of the double-teams. With TMac, Head gets some looks, but is rarely open because TMac is a perimeter player as well. I'm pretty sure that the Rockets as a team have suffered shooting the three since Yao was out.

I think when Tmac and Yao are out Juwan Howard is their best creator. With Tmac and Yao in, I'm guessing Stro Show could become the third scorer, but I haven't seen enough Rockets games to know Stro's capability as a scorer.
