INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indiana Pacers have agreed to trade Ron Artest to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Peja Stojakovic pending league approval, ESPN's Jim Gray has confirmed Tuesday.

The deal closes a chapter in the Pacers' latest drama involving the volatile star forward.

Kings owners Gavin and Joe Maloof on ESPNEWS would not comment directly on ESPN's report that the Kings pending league approval will trade Peja Stojakovic to the Pacers for Ron Artest.

I think this is an awful trade for the Pacers. They probably were so desperate yesterday after losing to the Hawks by double digits. Out of everyone rumored to go to Indiana, Corey Maggette, Rashard Lewis, Steve Francis, they chose Peja who is having the worst year of his career. They obviously wanted a pure shooter, so why didn't they get Rashard Lewis then? The Sonics need some defense and I'm sure they would be more than willing to swap Lewis for Artest. Lewis is shooting better than Peja and is much more athletic.

I really think Francis just needs a change of scenery to be an effective player once again. He's also a good defender and can give the Pacers some reliable scoring. He's not a great shooter, but I don't think that will matter too much -- he's still having a better year than Peja.

Maggette is kind of injury prone, but he's still a very good player and a possible all-star if he can stay healthy consistently. Maggette is a 20-point scorer, an athletic post up threat, and from what I've seen a solid defender. He, too, is an upgrade over Peja.

The Pacers, I assume, still want to remain contenders in the East, but how can they do that with Peja? He can't create his own shot, his atrocious in the playoffs, is terrible on defense, an awful rebounder, and is solely a one-dimensional shooter. That's it. The Pacers really messed up with this trade and I think it will really come to haunt them soon.

Peja is a former legit MVP candidate only 1 year removed. He will turn it up. He will not really need to create his own shot. Him and JO will be a great compliment to eachother except for the fact that he does not play a lick of defense. I did not know Lewis was on the block. He would have been the best overall fit IMO. I just wish Artest would have gone to GS...
