Wasn't it Vince who admitted to not playing hard in Toronto? Open mouth, insert foot. Nice one, Vinsanity
Read the whole article before making statements like that. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"I think it is great for (the NBA): They want scoring, they want ratings, and you are going to get that. You are definitely going to get them now with the amount of 50-point games, 60-plus games. I just hope that kids and young guys understand that (only) special guys can do that. Yeah, the (other Lakers) were trying to get Kobe the ball, they wanted to see a special night. But they all know their roles. "Guys understanding their roles is probably the hardest thing to accept in the NBA right now. Everybody wants to prove they are a professional, wants to be a star in this league. You can still become a star in your own right if you just play your role." </div> He just doesn't want young guys coming into the league thinking that they can play like Kobe.

Carter is the wrong man to criticize anything that someone else says or does, because he is no saint.
I don't think there are enough Kobe Bryant's in the league. There aren't enough players dedicating themselves in the off-season to basketbal. There aren't enough players who give 100% effort every night on BOTH ENDS of the court. There aren't enough players who play through injuries and earn the millions of dollars they make. There aren't enough players who appreciate and know the history of the league and pay respect to the pioneers of basketball.
It's still pathetic hearing it from Vince Carter. Like Schaddy said, VC admitted to not trying when he was with Toronto. And VC doesn't always play a team concept type of ball. He's a good player, but I don't think he has room to be critcizing.
Thats a lil cheap shot at Kobe, Reggie Miller put it best in Pardon the Interruption . Its Jealousy!!
Well, I think the man has a point. I mean, the kids could be affected negatively by a once-in-a-life-time perfromance by a player who lifted his team from down 18 to leading by 18 when it was obvious that other players on his team were disinterested in the first half (and cause the big deficit), but obviously Vincent thinks that publicly demanding a trade from a team that has invested everything in him and then later on dog it causing the team multiple losses in the short and long term is great role modelling for little kids showing them the true definition of professionalism. Go VC!
The man has a point, a valid point, but that was terrible timing, and it was clearly driven by Kobe's success, and VCs jealousy. Of all people, Vince was probalby the worst person to say it too. That game is circled.
Why didn't you guys jump on Dirk when he made similar comments after Kobe torched Dallas? I know that Dirk has never admitted to not playing his hardest, but does he need to? Watch him on the defensive end.
I read the article and you guys are taking Vince's comment wayyy out of context. There is already an article out there where Vince states how amazed he was by Kobe's 81 point effort. He didn't knock Kobe for the game but instead pointed out that some kids out there will look at that game and try to duplicate it in situations where they shouldn't. He points out that the Lakers players maybe were giving Kobe the ball but that it was a special situation and they knew that. A 14 year old kid may not know the difference between playing selfishly and this special situation.

There's nothing wrong with what he said. One could make the argument that Michael Jordan's greatness was also a bad influence on many younger players (they try to emulate his style when they have no business doing so).

That being said, Kobe made a mistake that summer. Everybody makes mistakes, and everyone forgave Kobe for cheating, so why not just give up the whole Vince thing. It was stupid of him to give a half-assed affort in TO. He made a mistake, so why doesn't everyone just give it up, its getting old.
No one should rip Kobe his work ethic beats out everyone else. Have any of you guys seen before the game? He works his tail off.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting virve119:</div><div class="quote_post">I don't really think the league needs guys who cheat on their wife and daughter, and stain the league's reputation.</div> That has nothing to do with the discussion. But since you went there, you have Jason Kidd listed as one of your favorite players. He didn't cheat on his wife, but he did attack her. I still really want to know why you guys didn't get after Dirk when he made comments much like the ones that Vince just made .
