<font size="-1">By GERRY FRALEY / The Dallas Morning News</font> Series: Mavericks lost first meeting, 111-109 at home on Dec. 30. Mavericks lead all-time series, 63-47. Key matchup ADRIAN GRIFFIN VS. JASON RICHARDSON In the first meeting, the Mavericks never found a suitable defender for Richardson. He had 32 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter as Golden State completed a rally from a deficit that had reached 14 points. Griffin's value to the Mavericks lies in his defense. He had a team-high four steals in Sunday's overtime win at Portland. Inside the Mavericks Back to life: Center Erick Dampier has been unusually productive since being bumped out of the starting lineup 10 days ago. Dampier has led the club in rebounding in each of the last three games, with a total of 30 in that span. That is his longest streak of the season and only the second time in two seasons with the Mavericks that he has had the team-high in rebounds for at least three consecutive games. Dampier had a five-game streak, in games 42-46, last season. Briefly: The Mavericks have scored 100-plus points in 19 of their last 20 games against Golden State. ... Dirk Nowitzki has averaged 25.2 points for his last five games against the Warriors. Inside the Warriors Falling down: A strong start is forgotten as they continue to go in reverse. The latest pratfall came Monday, when they blew a 19-point lead in a loss to the Clippers. The Warriors have lost 12 of their last 17, and defense is the problem. Oppo- nents have scored at least 100 points in 11 of those games. Coach Mike Mont- gomery has dropped broad hints that his team is soft. The Warriors have been outreb- ounded in 15 of the last 20 games. Briefly: Rookie Ike Diogu, of Garland, is back on the bench after getting eight starts at center. The Warriors believe he is better suited for power for- ward. ... Of the 117 players who qualify, Baron Davis ranks 116th in shooting percentage at 38.6.

Warriors Tonight We have got to jump on these guy fast and hard and get them down by 10 in the first quarter. Let them know the Mavs are deep and fast, and that the fouth quarter is where they are strongest. We must have a plan to keep Davis out on the perimeter without ability to penetrate. Jason Richardson has got to work for every catch and every shot. No second chances. I don't buy this Warriors are reeling junk, they just whipped us at home 3 weeks ago. We're almost home guys, and you did what no one expected you to be doing last Winter. Let's don't settle for a 4 or 5 seed.
Prediction: Mavs win 105-101. Warriors offense will give Dallas some problems but they make up for it by their defense.
The Warriors are looking worse and worse by the day. They score a lot, but their defense is a joke, Dallas will pounce on that. I see a HUGE night from Dirk (91 points, lol). But watch out for Dunleavy, hes trying to prove a point that he needs to ball more so look for him to make an impact. Dallas 104-GS 98.
Dallas off to a poor shooting start down 15-24 GSW are just outshooting us, which is why we are down.
Well back to the terrible mix of Dirk and Van Horn at the C and PF. Van Horn does not add anything to the offense and hurts the defense. At least Dampier gets points off rebounds. Dirk really sucks right now as well. Might as well go with a Dampier and Diop lineup because Dirk and Van Horn are terrible right now. I predict Golden State will blow Dallas out tonight.
Warriors are really playing hard, maybe thats because they blew a 19 point lead there last game on monday... I like the new layout
I guess taking out Dirk and adding Dampier along with Harris off the bench has worked well for Dallas.
Devin Harris is playing great with 9 points already, hes really taking over this game with everyone else struggling, also 3 assists....
Good to see that you like the layout, we're still adjusting it for the time being. Thinking of finding a dirk photo with a white jersey
Anyone noticed that lately, whenever Dirk is carrying the team offensively, he seems to get very few rebounds
Mavs 102 Warriors 93 Grades: Mavs lock it Down in the Fourth The Mavs opened up the game with the first two baskets before the Fat Lady started warming up. The Mavs were dreadful the rest of the first. Enter Devin Harris who dragged his team mates kicking and screaming back into this game. That is until Devin was dropped to the floor on an illegal (but not called) Dunleavy pick. All of sudden, Devin is done for the night. Jerry and Jason nail treys in the last 5 seconds of the first half to cut into the Warriors lead, but the Warriors are still in command. The Mavs remain sluggish, but with Devin out in the third, Adrian steps up his game and nearly single handedly shuts down the Warriors. The Mavs defense helps force the Warriors to miss their first 16 shots of the fourth period which delivers the win to the Mavs. Johnson: A, Avery was calling timeouts in the first period, but no one was listening. Avery responded with dumping his bench in and Devin provided the spark. Howard: B-, Josh was mired in mud tonight, but his team mates managed to carry on anyways. Josh finally woke up in the fourth, maybe because Adrian was embarrassing him. +12 Nowitzki: B, Dirk, like Josh, was a bit slow tonight, but like Josh seemed to wake up in the fourth period, at least defensively. +16 Diop: B+, DeSagana had a high energy game with 3 blocked shots to go with 4 points (1-2 FG, 2-2 FT) and 4 rebounds. Zero turnovers. +9 Griffin: A+; Adrian carried the Mavs with his hustle, especially after Devin went down. Adrian grabbed 11 rebounds to go with his 8 points (3-5 FG, 2-2 FT), 2 assists and 2 steals. +19 Terry: B, Jason again struggled with his shot tonight and apparently is still bothered with a sore hand. Jason put up 16 points (6-18 FG, 2-6 treys, 2-2 FT) along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists. +15 Stackhouse: A+, Jerry was knocking them down tonight, including going 3-6 from behind the arc, finishing with 23 points (7-13 FG, 3-6 treys, 6-6 FT) to lead the Mavs in scoring. +21 Harris: A+; Devin was a whirlwind tonight before going down, attacking Foyle at the rim for 11 points (4-5 FG, 3-4 FT) in only 13 first half minutes. Devin was out the second half with a sprained shoulder. Zero turnovers. +11 Dampier: A-, Erick was hustling tonight in front of his former team on his way to 9 rebounds and 7 points. +11 Van Horn: B, Keith came back off his sprained ankle providing 3 rebounds and 3 assists with 2 points. Zero turnovers. +5 Armstrong : C, Darrell got a few minutes on the floor to give Jason a rest in the second half with Devin unavailable. +0 Powell: DNP-CD. M’Benga: DNP-CD Daniels: DNP-Inactive, Marquis is out yet again with neck swelling from the Kurt Thomas clothes line hit. Marshall : DNP-Inactive, Rawle has been sent to the Fort Worth Flyers (NBDL) to get playing time. Podkolzin: DNP-Inactive, Pavel had surgery to repair his right foot. Typical Chef Ed Type
Good question. lol. Actually Terry for the most part along with Harris, Howard, Griffin, and even Armstrong.
Reserves' resolve carries Mavs 12:49 AM CST on Thursday, January 26, 2006 By GERRY FRALEY / The Dallas Morning News OAKLAND, Calif. ? Less than four minutes into Wednesday night's game, Mavericks coach Avery Johnson began running in bench players. It was a good idea. The Mavericks' deep and resourceful bench did what the starters could not. The reserves cleaned up a mess, took control of the game and pushed the Mavericks to a 102-93 victory against Golden State at The Arena. Mavericks/NBA The Mavericks put the game away in the fourth quarter with a 19-1 run. Golden State missed its first 16 shots in the quarter. It was appropriate that the Mavericks went ahead for the duration on a 3-pointer by sixth man Jerry Stackhouse. That came as the Mavericks scored nine consecutive points with All-Star Dirk Nowitzki on the bench. "We don't want to be a team that has to have Dirk score 30 points to win," Johnson said. Overall, the bench had 43 points and produced the energy that was lacking when the Mavericks fell behind by 11 in the first quarter. This was the Mavericks' fifth victory of the season for a game in which they trailed by 11 or more points. "We've been doing it all season," Stackhouse said beforehand. "It's become who we are. We feel we can win those kind of games." The Mavericks pushed their winning streak to six games, with four of the victories coming on a trip that ends tonight at Seattle. One more win or a loss by Phoenix will make Johnson the Western Conference coach for the All-Star Game, to be played in Houston on Feb. 19. The comeback began at an unexpected moment. Reserve point guard Devin Harris, the lone sign of life for the Mavericks during the first half, squarely ran into a Mike Dunleavy pick in the final three seconds of the first half. Harris lost in the collision, incurring a sprained right shoulder in addition to a sore jaw. He had to be helped to the locker room and did not return. Jason Terry replaced Harris with 2.1 seconds remaining and threw in a 3-pointer at the buzzer, cutting Golden State's lead to 55-49. From there, it was only a matter of time for the Mavericks. The first half was loaded with slapstick moments that would have been funny had they not been so sloppy. Quick starters recently, the Mavericks labored through their worst first quarter since the New York Knicks slapped them around on Jan. 11. The Warriors pushed their lead to as many as 11 points in the period. Harris came off the bench to keep the Mavericks in the game. With Terry playing, the Mavericks were outscored by 11 in the first half. With Harris in the game, they had a five-point advantage. Harris' fearless drives mesmerized the Warriors. Harris went to the basket seven times in the first half. The drives resulted in four field goals, two free throws, one assist and one shot that was blocked. He was too quick for defenders Baron Davis and Derek Fisher. E-mail gfraley@dallasnews.com http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...e.3cc523f9.html
