<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> The Toronto Raptors have scheduled a 2 p.m. news conference for this afternoon where it is anticipated they will announce the firing of general manager Rob Babcock. In just the second year of his contract, Babcock has been the focus of plenty of speculation about his job security following a number of questionable moves and decisions during his brief tenure. </div> http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...NStory/Sports//
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Bobcats:</div><div class="quote_post">Wow, that came out of nowhere. Mitchell should've been fired IMO, not Babcock.</div> That's along the same lens that I was thinking, but I think the MLSE heads like Mitchell bette,r and bringing up Sow without Mitchells's...'approval' surely didn't bodewell for Babcock's job(even though it worked out). This sorta came out of left field, I hope we have a replacement in line right now, and I hope the new GM will keep the current salary situation that allows us to make a run for a good FA...in 2..or is it 3 years.
Why now? Why now? Very questionable timing in my opinion. And how can a GM get canned before a coach?! Fire Peddie!
Talk about unexpected. Hope it'll be on Raptors TV, but I doubt that it'll be the firing of Babcock. Maybe Mitchell?
Why would they do this now, and why stop at Babcock. It seems that the whole front office could use a housecleaning... Are Raptor fans more glad or sad to see him going?
This came out of nowhere. So who'd replace him? Embry. Does his brother get fired too? So many questions.
Kobe Bryant GM Killer ... it had to be said. I'm surprised to see some of you caught off guard by this. There's been a lot of Babcock bashing by Raptor fans.
Wayne Embry will serve as interim GM, but by the way Richard Peddie said his statement, it seems like they'll take their time in finding the right guy. I don't think Embry will be bold enough to make any major moves before a permanent GM is put in place, so I doubt we'll do anything before the trade deadline. Firing Babcock now is just stupid. It's less than a month from the trade deadline and a lot of decisions have to be made. An interim won't have the same flexibility as a true GM will. We should have fired him earlier.
Im kinda happy about this, I'll be even more happy if we get a decent GM that could do something for the franchise, and maybe a new coach too. I like Sam and all but like someone said housecleaning is a good thing.
I thought that we were going to give Babs more time to work at this, since it is a work in progress. And it does baffle me that a GM is sacked before the coach, because Mitchell isn't the best coach of all time. I really don't know about this, and I was hoping for a trade, but I guess that won't be happening now.
Does seem to have come out of nowhere, but in my opinion he should have been kicked out after the sham that was the Vince Carter Giveaway, sorry... Trade!

Wayne Embry shoulda just been our GM for the season and with the trade deadline coming up and Wayne Embry expected(..well Peddie alluded to it) to be with us through the draft. I'd rather have Sam AND Babcock fired.I wonder if Dr. J will be in the running thi stime. hmm...I wonder if this will fuel any more "fire peddie" arguments
I'm pretty sure Sam Mitchell is next on the chopping block. Usually when a GM is fired, the owners clean house for the new GM. Just look at the situation in Cleveland this past summer. They got rid of Silas and Paxson almost simultaneously and brought Danny Ferry and Mike Brown. Just because Babcock has been let go, it doesn't mean the Raptors won't make any deals before the deadline. If the right deal comes along to help them add another piece to compliment Bosh, they'll pull the trigger. It will be interesting who eventually becomes the long term GM for this team.

One even asked when Peddie will resign. But I doubt Dr. J will be in the running this time. Peddie seems committed to hiring someone who has been a GM before and Irving just doesn't have that pedigree.
So where are the all the ppl that were bashing Babcock before the Raps went on their little win streak???? Where are the ppl that were calling for his head? Shouldn't they be cheering this move? I have to admit to be mystified by Peddie...he is obviously the major problem with the Raptors, if it keeps being said over and over there must be some merit to the rumours. But really...who is there out there that they can seriously look at to replace Babcock? Who has the experience necessary number one, but more importantly who would in their right mind take the job knowing that Peddie would be above them!?? What happened to consistancy? Though I think that Babcock got trigger shy after all the negative press, he should have traded the two Williams' for someone that Mitchell would play. In the end I hope it means that we get a higher draftpick and that Embry will make moves...talk to Mike James and see where he is at...staying or leaving and make a move accordingly.
