lol... wow this is unexpected.. Peddie should be let go too. Man this is messed up, Peddie or somebody probably got sick of hearing all that Kobe killing the Raps so somebody had to go, Mitchell is next in line, the new GM will want things his way so he'll let Mitchell go.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post">Kobe Bryant GM Killer ... it had to be said.

I'm surprised to see some of you caught off guard by this. There's been a lot of Babcock bashing by Raptor fans.</div>
If anyone were to be fired as a result of Kobe, it would be Sam Mitchell. With this firing though, I'm sure Sam would be getting the axe in the offseason.

I disagree with those saying that the timing is odd b/c the trade deadline is coming up. I'd prefer he'd get fired before then b/c we wouldn't want to risk him messing up another trade. Plus, I believe his reputation around the league is preventing us for getting good proposals from other teams. Ever since the Vince Carter giveaway, everyone's been low balling Babcock.

Yes, we probably should've fired him a while ago, but there's still some time for a interim gm to make a move before the deadline.... and least this guy won't have the babcock reputation following him around.

i really dont see the point of this... firing him at this point of the season
i thought the management was suppose to give Babcock and mitchell time to exceute their "long term plan" other than the vince carter trade....hes been doing a decent job to me

What a stupid move, I've been critical of Babcock myself, and I'm not "fan" of him, but what is the point of firing a GM in the middle of the season? The guys you need to go at are Richard Peddie and Mitchell.

If you want to know the stat of Vince's problems in Toronto, you go right to Peddie. I don't even understand why we did this at all...

Funny how he gets fired after making some solid moves (drafting Villanueva, trading Alston for James) but he doesn't get axed when drafting Hoffa, trading Vince and keeping Donyell.

Wow... unexpected timing. Really makes you wonder what the rational was for getting rid of him at this point. Perhaps with the trade deadline coming up it had something to do with a potential trade he had in the works which pushed everyone over the edge in terms of believing in his competency.

lets hope that peddie is next!!!

Bob Mccown is trying to get the real answer out of Peddie right now on the Fan. He keeps staying that its a "bunch of things," and doesn't look like he's budging. I seriously hope Peddie won't be in charge of the next job hunt.

There must have been some singular incident that caused this move. I'm just hoping somebody brings it out.

Just watched prime time on sportsnet. A lot of the talk seems to be about Sam Mitchell and Rob Babcock having a O'neil/Grunwald'esque relationship... Still feels like something is missing though ...

I'm kind of worried tright now because on RaptorsTV Peddie said that he wouldn't hire anyone before the end of the season. That basically puts us in the same boat as when Rob Babcock was hired (Hiring Gm right before the Draft). Kind of ironic...

Horrible decision by MLSE, simple as that. Babcock got a bad reputation...i dont know why...just cause the know it alls needed someone to pick on.

VINCE CARTER HAD NO TRADE VALUE. he was often injured, didnt want to play for toronto, WASNT playing for toronto, putting up horrible numbers, sitting out 4th quarters, arguing with his coach, practicing wearing an IPOD and worse of all, he didnt care.

2 first rounders for that aint bad. E. Will didnt work out, and thats to bad, he's worked out in other situations and he was EXACTLY the type Toronto needed on the team, same with A.Will who was more of a salary throw in.
Alonzo.....tough break, blame Zo or blame babcock, either way Babcock wasnt getting any better offers, and VC needed to go.

He drafted Hoffa..didnt work out. was it to hight for him? we know now that it was. But he was a solid prospect, and he was the type of player that we needed. Vince wanted to win now, Hoffa was as good as that draft could offer.

He drafted CV and got made fun of, but look how that turned out. He got Graham at 16 when lots wanted him taken at 7. Then he turned around and got Ukic, a mid 1st round player deep in the 2nd round. 3 1st round picks in a draft where he only had 2 first rounders.

He signed Alston who was great in Miami. The $ was right but the contract to long. Alston averaged 16 and 8 not bad at all. IF not for the way it worked out with Mitchell and a few of the players he was a great addition.
Babcock got a better player, on a shorter contract this year for just Alston. Great move overall.

Marshall..sure he didnt get traded, and of course Babcock would of done it straight up for a pick. But thats not possible unless you have an exception. The only trade he could make involved taking on a bad contract. And dont forget the raps were still in the playoff hunt, though just barely.
    ]

Babcock gets a B from me.

And now with the ever revolving door at the Raps Bosh is gunna want out, into a more stable environment. Great move everyone, and i mean EVERYONE. the idiots that bagged on him all this time, the fools that fired him, and the morons that still believe they could of done better.

First of all, you're being so ridiculous in your assessment of Babcock, its almost laghable. Everything he did in his first year was a bust, so there's no way you can give him a B after only a year and a half. He hasn't completely redeemed himself from that horrible first year.

On the other hand, I agree with you that this move was horrible, but in a different sense. When Babcock was fired, he stressed that he had a 3 year plan. Firing him a year and a half in, when the team showed signs of improvement, shows that they had no faith in the plan that they hired him to implement. That's solely on Richard Peddie, the man who hired him. Second, how will this instability reflect on Bosh, who we're trying to convince to resign? And finally, unless there's some specific incident that hasn't come out yet, it looks like he was simply let go after a power struggle. How can we sell our organization to legit GM's, when our owner keeps taking sides in issues that don't concern him and our president will clearly fire anybody to cover his ass?

    <div class="quote_poster">Quoting MrJ:</div><div class="quote_post">Please, give us Rose and Denver's pick before you get axed.</div>

    lol...for what!?

its funny to see the outpour of support for babcock, when we couldnt say enough bad about him last year. sure the timing is odd, and he's made some decent moves this season...but he needs to be accountable for the moves he made last year. really, all the good moves he made were after he brought wayne embry on board.

now with that said, i still feel like the wrong guy got fired. peddie and mitchell are both way more at fault then babs. they both NEED to go in order for this franchise to take a step forward. i wish the powers that be would just see that and get rid of peddie
