<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">How impressed is 76ers coach Maurice Cheeks with second-year forward Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic? "Oh man, he's a stud," Cheeks said last night before his Sixers met Howard and the Magic at the Wachovia Center. "You wouldn't know he came out of high school. His body is so filled out. It looks like he's getting better and better every time, rebounding and scoring. Everything about him is on the upswing. He's just taken off. I would imagine as he keeps going up the ladder, he'll be getting better and better." The 6-foot-11, 265-pound Howard, who turned 20 on Dec. 8, entered last night's game leading the league in rebounding at 12.6 per game. He pulled down a career-high 21 rebounds last Friday against Charlotte. He also ranks third in the NBA in offensive rebounds, grabbing 3.6 per game. "It's just his technique," Cheeks said. "Rebounding is about drive, especially offensive rebounding. It's about drive. It's not about anything else. It's about going and getting the ball. "He's not a guy that, when the ball comes off the boards, he just waits until it comes to his side. He goes from side to side and gets the ball. To be a good rebounder you have to go chase the ball." Howard also ranks 13th in field-goal percentage (51.6) and averages 15.0 points per game. He is third in the league with 29 double-doubles.</div> Source
I agree with him. Dwight Howard is the only bright spot Orlando has. It's nice to see his accomplishments are finally being recognized. He's having a great season.
Dwight is a great player and will only get better. Last year he was underratted but now people realize what type of player he is and how good he will be. I wouldn't exactly say he is the only bright spot Orlando has but he probly is the best, Jameer Nelson, Hedo, keyon Dooling and even Travis Diener Look like they will be pretty good. It's too bad Jameer is hurt right now cause it seemed like people were starting to realize that is is a good player too.
Dwight and Jameer and the only reasons I even remotely like Orlando, even though the Magic as a team are growing on me I still think its mainly because of Dwight Howard.
It's good to see Dwight getting some respect from other people around the league. He never gets any attention from ESPN or any other news outlets depsite him putting up great stats.
Yeah I watched the Magic-Sixers game last night, and I loved watching him play. Built like an ox, and banging in and out for every rebound. Great player, and he`s only going to get better.
Dwight definitely looked impressive against the Sixers. It was the first time I've seen him since his rookie season and I must say he's really turned into a man. How's Kyle Korver and Steven Hunter sound for him
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting TheHighness:</div><div class="quote_post">Dwight will never be traded he is Orlando's future and will be an all star for a long time.</div> I never thought we would lose Shaquille O' Neal or Tracy McGrady either.
"I want to be here my entire career," Dwight says. Says Jameer: "It means a lot that this franchise wanted me when nobody else did.''
dwight howard gotta work on his freethrows, he has no problem being a 20 12 guy if his freethrows gets better
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting NYCfinest123:</div><div class="quote_post">dwight howard gotta work on his freethrows, he has no problem being a 20 12 guy if his freethrows gets better</div> He'll be fine. I bet he is near a 20 12 guy next year anyway even if his FT's don't go up. He's the type of player who will shoot like 1000+ FT's every day during the offseason to get his FT % up for next season. Right now, I'm more worried about him gaining a couple of low post moves. That's what he needs to focus on the most, like 2-3 moves that are unstoppable when he gets it down low. I honestly don't think he even knows what he is going to do when he gets the ball down low.
oh yea dwight is also averaging like 8 shot attempts a game i think, he getting that less shots but still averaging 15 ppg, thats impressive for a 20 year old kid
He's actually avg 10.5 shots per game. He avg only 8.1 last year and still put up 12 ppg. I don't understand why we don't continue to go to him more. I know he has a tendency to turn it over a little more, but he's very efficient on offense when he gets the ball. He shot 52% last year and is currently shooting 51.7% this year.
Dwight's putting up great numbers for a second year player and I think he's really going to be good and this was a wise choice by the Magic Management, to draft him over Emeka. I've liked Dwight ever since I saw him spank the raptors on the board for the first time.
What stats would you guys predict Dwight putting up in three seasons? I think he will be a 20 points and 13 rebounds type of player who is consistent and has a bunch of great moves down low in the paint.
Dwight should average at least 23-25pts and 13-15rpg in 3 years. I think he should be at 20-22 right now if he was more consisitant with his free throws + he misses alot of shots close in shots that he should be making. 3 years is a long time hopefully he will have a decent mid range jump shot by then. Everybody cross their finger's and pray that he doen't have a serious injury.
