I believe Mullin wants to make a big move like Davis, instead of small moves, which will help our immidiate problem, but not a long term solution. And, that's why we heard us being mentioned in players like Curry, and it seems like we could have gotten Artest as well. And, since he is getting a support from Cohan like no other GMs could dream of, he has a lot of resources to make a deal. The only question is that can he make the deal fast enough to save this season? No matter how you put, missing PO this year will be a huge disappointment, and any upgrade at 4 and 5 will improve our chance of making PO greatly. I wonder how long Mullin can afford to wait for a right deal, because right now, there is no available all-star calibur big man (as far as we know of)...

I'm mostly concerned over the possibility of overinvesting in a big name who either does not fill enough needs or costs so much we are deeper in the hole. I see Murphy as seriously underrated,by fans here and elsewhere. Trading underrated for overrated can be a really bad move. PJ Brown is kind of Dale Davis part 2,a veteran with not a lot of miles left, but for now,you know what you are getting. To deal off a lot of FUTURE value for a 2 year patch is pointless. We need to see ourselves a real contender for a title in 07/08,as oppossed to a 7 or 8 seed for a few years, just hoping to get to the second round of the playoffs. Fisher,Foyle,Calbert, are not going to be better in a year or 2 or 3. Everyone else WILL be at least a bit better and some should be a lot better...or at least have had the experiance, production and consistancy to have a more important role and/or more market value. Trading rising stock for falling stock is generally not good. The thing to remember is that often trades happen that, were they suggested on the trade board, everyone would be " they NEVER do this". The whole CBA/CAP aspect has made trades enormously intricate and often baffling. Just look at the deals involving Baron,Jamison,Najara, none really made a lot of sense. Mully is casting bait and looking to see what bites. We know that C is a priority. We know he's wary of overpaying for a temp. Otherwise we might have already obtained Mutumbo or Mourning. I think,or at least hope, Mully does not panic and deal away a lot of the future for a fairly average big who's only a shade better that who we have.
