<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">With a new collection of test tubes assembled, Doc Rivers returned to the lab yesterday for some mixing prior to the team?s flight to Milwaukee for today?s game against the Bucks.
Based on Friday?s win over the Kings, part of the formula may not be difficult to complete. With Wally Szczerbiak playing 24 electric minutes, the Celtics flowed like a new chemical ready for the market.
Other parts will be more of a challenge. Though the Celtics coach gave newcomer Michael Olowokandi his standard line about staying ready for an opportunity, the 7-footer is perceptive. He understands that the development of Kendrick Perkins and Al Jefferson is the priority in all frontcourt matters.

?You have to create a role for yourself, even if it?s giving advice to the younger guys,? Olowokandi said after yesterday?s practice. ?(Friday night) I grabbed Al and Perk before the game to go over some one-on-one stuff in the post so that we could feel each other out.
?Be it a bit of being a mentor, or a buddy, I?ll do what?s needed. They?ll also have to play defense on me. But they have very impressive young big guys here.?
    Rivers can?t promise anything more.
?In some ways it?s going to be tough for him, because we already have four guys in that rotation,? Rivers said of Olowokandi. ?But on the other hand, take a look at Milwaukee. The last time they destroyed us with all of their bigs, so you could see him playing a lot (today).?
Yesterday, Rivers? main challenge with Szczerbiak appeared to be not reading too much into the beauty of one game.
?But I?m hoping this is what it will be like,? he said of the 6-foot-7 forward?s ability to stretch the defense with deep shooting. ?Actually, I would be surprised if it didn?t go that way every night.?
In that respect, the new dynamic between Szczerbiak and Paul Pierce will change the appearance of the offense.Unlike the now-departed Ricky Davis, who is more of a mid-range scorer and slasher, Szczerbiak is a deep threat who can create more room for Pierce. One argument in favor of the trade held that Pierce and Davis were too similar in where they searched for offense.
Szczerbiak, at his best, won?t create clutter. He also looks forward to his new collaboration.
?He just moves so smoothly on the floor,? he said of Pierce. ?He never taxes himself. He?s one of the best there is at changing speeds, and at keeping his defender off balance.
?I think Kevin McHale said it the best,? Szczerbiak said of the Timberwolves general manager and Celtics great. ?Be it Bruce Bowen or someone else, I was the one who always drew the best perimeter defender.
?Now with Paul, there will be times when I can go into the post. People say I?m a shooter, but I like to post up, too, because that?s how you get high-percentage shots.?</div>

Kandi better be nothing more than an emergency quarterback.
