<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">What will it take to make him happy? Will Chris Webber ever be happy? His $19 million yearly salary must not do it for him. Playing for the Sixers, apparently, does not either. Webber has been a Sixer for nearly a year now and despite the coaching change -- Jim O'Brien was fired, Maurice Cheeks was hired -- he still doesn't seem to be satisfied. When Webber was initially acquired from Sacramento last February, O'Brien was the Sixers coach. The offense that O'Brien had in place basically put the ball in Allen Iverson's hands and let him do as he pleased. Webber never felt he was part of the offense. He called last season, in terms of basketball, "timeout times 50," a reference to his gaffe when he was playing for Michigan in the 1993 NCAA title game against North Carolina. "It was the worst situation I've ever been in, in basketball," Webber said in October. "What I mean by that, it was the worst feeling that I ever had. Timeout times 50. Why am I looking forward to coming back, because I'm a competitor and I'm ready to play. Hopefully I can make the best of this situation. "I feel good and hopefully it's a lot different than it was." O'Brien was fired after last season, and Cheeks, a former Sixer who helped lead the team to the 1983 NBA championship, was hired. Webber seemed happier than anyone. Yet a few weeks ago in Washington, Webber was asked about the current system and he essentially said that it's not much different from last year, but with better execution. After the blowout loss to the Wizards on Jan. 16, an ESPN reporter wrote that Webber lit into his teammates and coaches, saying, among other things, that he needs to get the ball more. The report said he may not have named Iverson directly, but it was clear he was "calling out" the star guard who takes nearly 26 shots per game, which prompted Iverson's remarks to the media questioning his own role. Webber's performance was anything but stellar that day. He had nine points on 4-for-12 shooting, three rebounds and just one assist in 20 minutes. Getting another 10 shots would've made that much of a difference. Cheeks sat Webber for the fourth quarter and Iverson for most of it, but that was understandable considering the Sixers were already down by 20. Webber grumbled recently about his lack of assists in games, but he's the one who's not passing the ball. Lately, Webber gets the ball and dribbles, dribbles, dribbles and tosses a shot up. He told reporters after Thursday's overtime loss to Orlando, in which he had zero assists and 31 points, "one of the most frustrating things is not being able to use my passing ability. To me, getting an assist is just like scoring." Simple solution: Pass the ball. It's not like he's having a bad season. Prior to Saturday's game against the Knicks, Webber was averaging 19.7 points, 10 rebounds and three assists in 39.4 minutes per night. But Webber's nearly 33 years old, his legs aren't what they used to be and he's playing on a team with a tough little guard who's led the league in scoring four times and is playing some of the best basketball of his career. This is Iverson's team and Webber knew that when he was brought in. Sure, Iverson may take four or five shots too many per game, but he's been doing that. If management and the coaching staff didn't like it, they should've either traded him by now, or started a true point guard alongside Iverson. Webber played with one of the better point guards in the league in Sacramento guard Mike Bibby. But he's no longer with the Kings, he's a Sixer. Like it or not.</div>http://www.courierpostonline.com/apps/pbcs...379/1002/SPORTS
Perfect example of todays media try to make some bullshit out of nothing Webber and Iverson both Lit into the team after Washingtons game this fake soap opera drama between Allen and Chris is just gettin ridiculous I mean these people need to find something thats really worth writing about
They are still on this? I thought winning cured everything? The Sixers won four out of their last five, so why can't they talk about how they are actually starting to get things together(knock on wood)?
I honestly hate how the media gets access to the players immediately after a game. The players have no time to sink in a loss especially a tough overtime loss sometimes, and say things in the heat of the moment. Then the media takes that one line takes it out of context and runs with it. Webber throughout his career, and I don’t just mean NBA career, but all the way back to the Michigan days has been a target for the media. The guy can never catch a break with anyone in the media. I guess he is just an easy guy to target.
well, either way, if C-Webb is unhappy my advice to him is to just retire after the season. your old, your knees arent 100%, and your probably not going to win a championship since the sixers are far from even contending, you also arent going to get traded because your contract sucks big time. might as well retire after the season and give us some money off the cap.
Even if he retires after this season we still pay him. The earliest we can get him off the books is after next season when he can exercise his player option to opt out.
I think Webber has made his case for saying that he wants the ball more. I think the 76ers should run there offense threw him more, he has proved that he is capable of making plays.
The media MIGHT be making something out of nothing here, but Webber is a vet and should have known how easily comments like that could be taken out of context.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting B-22:</div><div class="quote_post">I think Webber has made his case for saying that he wants the ball more. I think the 76ers should run there offense threw him more, he has proved that he is capable of making plays.</div> I agree, the Offense really should be run through Webber just like Miami is doing with Shaq. Notice Miami doesn't run it through Dwyane Wade when Shaq is on the floor. If the Sixers did something similar I think we would be better and our other guys wouldn't feel so nervous of making mistakes. HEll Iverson is a much better player, but I think that our team would beb etter off with the offense run through Webber. Our team is actually very talented with Dalembert(top 5 arguably center in the league), Chris Webber(all-star PF 19 and 10), and Allen Iverson the second leading scorer in the NBA. Then we have the young guys. I really think we can be the 4th best team in the East. (behind Miami, Detroit, Cleveland).
After the Orlando game, Webber was laughing and joking around in the huddle with Louis Williams. THis is just the media blowing something up. Players are happy after a win and mad after a loss, thats human nature. The media just likes to think its all serious.
