<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">NEW YORK ? After rehashing his 81-point game at great length for the New York media Monday, Kobe Bryant goes on stage tonight at his "favorite place to play," Madison Square Garden. It will be the last game for Bryant in one of the most fanciful months in NBA history, with still a chance to average 45 points for January. He will face a Knicks team that lost Monday in Atlanta and lacks anyone with the necessary combination of athleticism and experience to guard him. Add it up, and Bryant could put on a one-man Broadway scoring show. That's just not the performance he is planning. "I'd much rather have 25 points and 10 assists," Bryant said. "It'd be nice for us to have a game where everybody is in a groove." Bryant pointed to the Lakers' 5-1 trip in December when teammates were shooting with confidence - "instead of relying on me," Bryant said - and scoring was more balanced. The Lakers have six games left on this trip, after losing in Detroit on Sunday. Five of the six upcoming opponents lack winning records - Dallas is the lone exception. It is a reasonable time for the Lakers' offense to stabilize, assuming that Lamar Odom is ready to deliver. Odom is planning to alter his game, looking to score more once he enters the key area on the floor, in the wake of back-to-back season highs in turnovers with seven and eight. Odom scored nine points each game, and he said he has been "forcing passes when I should be shooting the ball." Lakers coach Phil Jackson said he normally would have benched Odom amid struggles such as what he endured Sunday, but Jackson took the opportunity to see what Odom could figure out: "I wanted him to work himself through it," Jackson said. Odom is the only player in the NBA averaging at least 14 points, nine rebounds and five assists this season. Kevin Garnett, Pau Gasol and Odom are the only players averaging at least 14 points, nine rebounds and four assists. "When he's playing well, we're really a special team," Jackson said. "When he's not playing well, we really miss him." Of Odom's season to date, Jackson said: "There's a long ways to go to find some consistency."</div> Source
