It was announced today that Aaron Williams was traded to the New Orleans Hornets for 2 second round draft picks in 2006 and 2009. http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives..._aaron_williams
Good Deal IMO. No Need for an old big man here anyways. Youth movement should be fully embraced now, only if we could get someone useful for Eric Williams.
Credit to Wayne Embry for getting a solid deal for Aaron Williams. It never hurts to stockpile draft picks when you're rebuilding.
wow excellent deal for the raps Aaron wasnt doing much and honestly getting 2 second round picks for him is big i really like this trade

Good deal for both sides IMO... Hornets get what they need in a big man which they need since they only have like 2. Is this posted any where else besides RealGM?
If we can continue our 3 year run of drafting great in the 2nd round then this could be even more of a steal.
I think the best part about this deal is we were able to get a player out of town who wanted to go. The fact that we got him off our roster makes both us and him happy. Getting 2 picks out of the deal solid as well .. even though they are 2nd round .. it leaves room for potential.
Williams is worth one second round pick at most, so I'm quite surprised we got two, although the 2009 pick won't come in handy for a long while. This creates another roster spot, which maybe opens up something for another deal, something like a one-for-two. Or we can sign someone with the spot?
if it was NO draft pick I'd be happy but it's Miami's so it will be an extremely low draft pick and the other pick in 2009! c'mon this means we almost gave him away really. Is everyone saying this is a good pick just b/c something happened? There isn't a lot of players that make it from that late in the draft. And before everyone says Sow...IMO the jury is still very much out on him? Why not trade Williams straight up for Makjivious (sp)? IMO I also see Williams picking his numbers up and (again) making the Raptors look like they got the short end of the stick. I am hoping that this is picking up picks to eventually trade with someone else ala Erik Williams. What I don't understand is why we couldn't take a flyer on Nikolas Tsivididiki (sp). He was picked up by Phoenix for a second rounder! A young guy with a lot of potential (#5 overall). Those are the kinda trades that I would consider to be good.
two second rounders are nice...i meant...yeah 2009 would be a long way to think about from now BUT toronto added flexibility and can use that 2009 2nd rounder and package it with another player with another trade meanwhile toronto can spend the other 2nd rounder to pick up a solid role player aaron williams for two 2nd rounders...wow...that's a good trade

Next year's draft is loaded with solid college role players or Toronto can gamble on International talent like they did in the last draft with Roko Ukic and Uros Slokar. At this point Aaron Williams is doing nothing for this team and won't be back next year. So getting two players for him is a solid trade for the Raptors and nice way for Embry to break the ice as the interim GM. New Orleans hasn't given up on Arvydas Macijauskas yet. Toronto isn't the right place for Skita, which is probably the reason Toronto didn't trade for him. Phoenix is a better situation because D'Antoni is familiar with his game, and Phoenix runs the ideal offense to benefit Skita's skillset, Toronto doesn't. I'm sure Embry's goal is to start weeding out the players who don't want to be here, Eric Williams is likely next. I think a team like Cleveland could use him, since he has playoff experience, or possibly Miami.
Pape Sow was picked with a late 2nd round pick, so its not impossible to get somebody with some potential out of it.
I'm loving this deal, I don't care if thhe other pick is in 2009, that's another extra pick, and a pick we can trade. There is so much talent, that 2nd round picks can be used for role players, euros or undiscovered talent, like Chuck Hayes, Marquis Daniels etc. We could potentially find one in the mold some day.
I was saying that I'd be happy with a trade for a young player like 'Skita' not that we should've picked him up. As for the 2nd rounders, we did good last year...but we just fired the guy that picked the Slokar and Ukic...before that.....? Like you said it is a crap shoot, just as much chance that we dont' get somebody. If we now take these picks and package them with an Erik Williams for a young guy with potential it'll be ok. Any thoughts on what it would take to pry Darko out of Detroit??? If we do deal Erik Williams to the Cavs, would they be willing to trade maybe Luke Jackson or could we get more? (or less...)
i agree with this...i think the raps should use some of these draft picks, along with the Eric Williams trade and get a young talent. However, I don't think Darko will come that cheap. Could they add something else to this to lure Magloire, who's said over and over again that he'd be interested in playing for his hometown? I would add the Denver 1st rounder as well for Magloire; you can't lose.
.... I don't know why you people like Magloire so much, sure he's from Toronto but he's not that good. There's plenty of younger centers out there that are capable of putting up what he's putting. Chris Kaman (clips), ZaZa Pachulia(hawks), Robert Swift (Sonics). There's plenty more but thats all i can think of at the moment, those guys have the potential to become something and they are still young..
