<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Philadelphia 76ers President Billy King announced today that the Sixers have traded center/forward <font color="#0000ff">Steven Hunter</font> to the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets in exchange for two second round picks in the 2006 and 2007 NBA Drafts. With the transaction, the Sixers roster currently stands at 14 players. Signed by the Sixers as a free agent on Aug. 12, 2005, Hunter played in 38 games this season averaging 4.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 0.95 blocks in 17.7 minutes per game. He started the first 13 games of the season at center for Philadelphia, shooting 51.4 percent (73-142 FG) from the field, and 60.9 percent (42-69 FT) from the free-throw line in that span. Hunter recorded double-doubles in consecutive games, 11/21 vs. NOK and 11/23 at MIL. His 12 rebounds on11/ 21 vs. the Hornets were a career-high. </div> http://www.nba.com/sixers/news/hunter_060201.html
Damn man, this is NOT the trade I heard of! We were supposed to get a player back in return as well, even if he was a scrub player. Plus, we signed Zendon Hamilton today (another movie from the source). I'm hoping we're using this move to make another one, because this just doesn't seem to make any sense.
Isn't that saying that Steven Hunter is basically worth the same as Aaron Williams? Was he unproductive or not fitting in or something?

Steven Hunter was signed for a bargain price at $3M per season. He produced early on when Dalembert was injured, and is great insurance because he can play both PF & C. Maybe the 76ers needed to trim their roster to 14 to pull off a 2 for 1 or 3 for 2 deal later on? Just read more about this deal, it includes a $2.8M trade exception from New Orleans. Now this trade is making a lot more sense.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Chutney:</div><div class="quote_post">Isn't that saying that Steven Hunter is basically worth the same as Aaron Williams? Was he unproductive or not fitting in or something?</div> That's what I thought when I first heard of it. The Toronto deal also gave the Raptors a $3.35 million exception. New Orleans is really stockpiling some worthy big men.
I wouldn't call Hunter a worthy big man.He can block some shots and score but his defense is bad and even your point guard could get more rebounds in a game than he did. I belive Bill Walton said Hunter could be the softest big man in the history of the NBA but you'll never know. I like the deal cause we didn't give away any picks like usually and we didn't get a meaningless player in return that could've have ruined the hopes of getting another trade made. I hope Shav Randolph will now get more minutes
Nobody on the team liked Hunter. He couldn't grab a rebound to save his life. He walks around thinking he is Michael Jordan. He is worse than Allen was to showing up to practice back in his early days (Hunter blew off mandatory practices). He has a HORRIBLE attitude. The list goes on and on... I even heard a funny story about Allen wanting him traded: It is the rookie's job to buy breakfast, and last week when Louis went to buy McDonalds he got only the sausage mcmuffin thing... with only a sausage and bread, nothing else. Usually they get variety for the team. Now, when Louis came back, Allen went off and started laughing at Louis, and asked him why he didn't get variety. Louis said it was way too expensive, and Allen said man, you're in the L now... $50 ain't crap to you. Then Allen cracked a joke (right in front of Hunter) saying the Sixers should trade Hunter for a year's worth of breakfast burgers!!!!!!! And it looks like that just happened... Also, this is off-topic, but supposedly the Sixers front office polled season ticket holders asking them whether they should trade Iverson, but Billy King is STRONGLY denying that... like that changes anybody's mind.
I actually liked Steven Hunter, he was a pretty decent back up at the least. Dalembert has gotten hurt before, if he does again this team could be in major trouble.

He was doing good in the season early on, but once Dalembert came back they didn't really have any use for him. I think The Hornets are replacing Chris Anderson. Hunter is pretty much a poor mans birdman. Is it just meo r wasn't this basically the same deal we got from the Nets for Marc Jackson? I think trading Marc Jackson was a huge mistake IMO.
I actually like the trade alot. I think we should build through the draft and Hunter had a decent sized contract for somebody who doesnt even play alot of the time. We get two second round picks, remember Korver and Willie Green were second round picks, so there is quality there.
wait, so we basically traded our backup center for 2 2nd round draft picks?? i dont know about you guys, but unless another trade is coming, i dont see anyway this is going to benifit us presently. sure, we get some money off the cap, but who is going to come in for sammy if he gets into foul trouble? do you really want shav or hamiton to be our backups? shav is going to be an ok player IMO, but he is a down grade from hunter. at least hunter finds ways to score. look at what he did in the beginning of the season when sammy was out. hamilton brings hustle and energy and heart, but i dont want to see him average 10 minutes a game or anything like that. my point is, if the sixers want to win now, this was a bad trade because it leaves us with even less depth. i actually thought that we would be trading for pj brown or some other big to help us out, not trading away one of ours! oh well, the sixers staff knows more than i do. maybe shav is better than im giving him credit for?

What happens now if Sammy gets hurt again? Throw Randolph in there and expect him to give the team what Dalembert does? Silly move unless there is something else about to happen.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Martin:</div><div class="quote_post">I wouldn't call Hunter a worthy big man.He can block some shots and score but his defense is bad and even your point guard could get more rebounds in a game than he did.</div> He is certainly far superior to ANYTHING Philly will bring in from the bench to relieve Sammy though. Hunter is a talent and he will show it with the Hornets.

Don't worry a trade is almost certain to go down soon. Right now it seems like it will be a trade with Toronto. But my mark my words King is not done here and he WILL do another trade.

During his time in Philadelphia he was always modest to me I never heard of him whining about being benched when Dalembert returned, and I never heard anything about him not showing up to practice. While he was here he was always one of the first guys to volunteer for charity events, and hold charity events to help the less fortunate. I personally think this is a horrible trade. The Hornets although not the greatest team in the league are having a solid season so the second round picks will not be high, and we get nothing else in return? I?m getting sick and tired of the 76ers signing players, and then trading them less than a season later Zendon Hamilton, Corliss Williamson, and now Steven Hunter. Pretty soon this front office is going to lose its credibility among players. The 76ers knew what they where getting when they signed Hunter to this contract, he was never a dominant rebounder in Phoenix or Orlando so what made King think it would change in Philly? He did everything he did last season for the Sixers this year, even better in fact; I am really disappointed in this trade, unless it is leading a bigger move.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I am really disappointed in this trade, unless it is leading a bigger move.</div> Haha. Doesn't seem like things will be getting better. As of NOW the likely candidate to come to Philly is Eric Williams.
He can dunk and block a couple of shots every game. Big whoop. When he played for the Magic I wasn't very impressed by him. He is a bench player and unless he improves his work ethic, that's all he will ever be.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Avery:</div><div class="quote_post">Haha. Doesn't seem like things will be getting better. As of NOW the likely candidate to come to Philly is Eric Williams.</div> id rather have hunter than eric williams and 2 2nd round draft picks.
