<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">DALLAS -- An emerging MVP candidate, Dirk Nowitzki would seem automatic as a Western Conference forward for this month's All-Star Game in Houston.

"There are a lot of great forwards in the West this year," Nowitzki said. "Carmelo [Anthony] deserves it. Pau Gasol deserves it. It's going to be tough as a forward to get it. KG [Kevin Garnett] and Tim [Duncan] are probably a lock. We'll see how it plays out."

Nowitzki, who was averaging 25.9 points and 8.4 rebounds before Tuesday's game, is one of eight legitimate candidates vying for, at most, six forward spots on a West team that will be coached by Avery Johnson.

"A lot of guys deserve to be on there," Johnson said, "and somebody is going to be a little disappointed."

Houston's Tracy McGrady leads all forwards in fan voting, followed by a neck-and-neck race for the second starting spot between Duncan and Garnett.
Then it gets tricky for Johnson and the 14 other Western Conference coaches who will select the remainder of the 12-man roster. The Suns' Shawn Marion and the Clippers' Elton Brand are also among the long list of forwards who are having impressive seasons.

Starters will be announced Thursday and the reserves next week.

"I just want them to know it's not my decision totally," Johnson said. "You know you have those situations where the guy didn't make it and then he comes out and he wants to kill the coach? If I made the decision, I would take 15 players because I think there are 15 guys in the West that are really deserving."</div>

    So Tmac is in,

Lets assume there are 3 more spots remaining,

    Tim Duncan deserves it,
    KG deserves it
    Andrei Kirilenko deserves it,
    Shawn Marion deserves it,
    Pau Gasol deserves it,
    Elton Brand deserves it,
    Dirk deserves it,
A lot of people feel Melo deserves it,
Rashard Lewis probably won't repeat as an allstar
Amare might get voted in lol,

Which 3 should be left off the list of Dirk, TD, KG, AK47, Matrix, Gasol, and Brand?

On the bench theirs 2 gaurd spots, 2 forward spots and 1 center spot, along with 2 position spots, which is 2 random players and it doesnt matter what position. So I think it'll be, on the bench...

    G-Parker
    G-Allen????
    F-Nowitzki
    F-Duncan
    C-????
    W-Marion
    W-Brand

If KG gets the starting spot - Duncan at 5, Kirilenko and Gasol left out.

If Duncan gets the starting spot - KG, Kirilenko, Gasol left out

The most deserving and Dirk and Marion IMO

How could he get voted in? Read the article. Tmac leads all forwards, KG and Garnett are fighting for the second spot.

Kirilenko does not deserve to be an allstar, give me a break. There is now way that a top team like the Mavs will go without an allstar. This article was just written to stir up some talk.

Gasol will not make the team.
Carmelo will not make the team.
Kirilenko will not (and should not) make the team.
Brand will not make the team.
Lewis will not make the team.

Tmac, STD, KG, Dirk, and Marion will make the team.

if dirk isnt a lock, then why would duncan be a lock? this might sound like a crazy question, but if you look at numbers, minutes, and team wins...there is no reason why duncan should be a lock as well.

There's no way Dirk's gonna get left out with Avery as the coach. Brand, Marion, KG and Dirk will be the Reserve Forwards..

Kirilenko, Gasol, and probably Brand. Though, personally, I think Brand is more deserving than Marion. Marion is a good player, don't get me wrong, but his numbers are slightly inflated in the high paced Phoenix system and he isn't far and away the best player on his team, like Brand has been.
