After the loss, on the Celtics postgame show the hosts began making all sorts of excuses and concessions for the Celtics being blown out in Minnesota by the Timberwolves and being aired out by the four former Celtics that now wear blue. The first thing out of Gary Tanguay's mouth was "Now, Celtic fans DON'T PANIC...This doesn't mean that it was a bad trade!" The following excuses were used NONSTOP: "Wally just had a baby...his mind was elsewhere (They said his new daughters name so much that I now know it better than my own nieces'!)" "Mark Blount was being classless out there, skipping and what not! (What athlete WOULDN'T be elated to be free of the scrutiny of the Sox/Pats loving fans/media?)" "Marcus Banks and Justin Reed had a lot of incentive to perform out there, the Celtics just didn't match their energy" "They (Banks, Reed, Davis, & Blount) came out on an emotional high...they felt like they had a lot to prove" "They had career nights, you can't judge them (Banks, Reed, Blount, & Davis) off of their performances tonight" Blah, blah, blah....I'm watching these members of the Boston/New England media backpedalling and doing damage control talking about how horrible Marcus Banks was a film student and how he never gave effort in practice and all he was nothing but fast and that he won't have a long career, yada, yada, yada. They claim that he won't become another Chauncey Billups...when did I hear that last? Oh..I remember! WHEN THEY TRADED CHAUNCEY BILLUPS! And JOE JOHNSON! AND BRUCE BOWEN! I'll never forget when the Celts traded away Brian Shaw. Red Auerbach made a RIDICULOUS STATEMENT "Guys were going through him like a sieve"...he goes over to Orlando and he becomes an invaluable utility player...AND A DEFENSIVE STOPPER! LMAO! I'm so damn sick of all of this Celtic propaganda! They made a mistake! Ainge made a(nother) bad move! Just 'fess up to it! Last people to say that the Celtics were screwing up and making questionable moves were both sideline reporters...they had radio shows and they both questioned the ownership and management...they are both now without jobs (I MISS COACH WILLIE MAYE!) A bad move is a bad move! To Minnesota: enjoy your NEW fast paced, high scoring, energetic, exciting Timberwolves...I'll just get League Pass with my tax money...Mark Blount may or may not revert back to his old self....we'll see...doesn't affect his 15-18 foot jumper, though. One.
I was asked if I wanted my tickets to tonight's game...I said no. My brother in law went in my stead. The Celtics sent their running game to Minnesota and tonight they playing the runningest team in the NBA. They claim they made the trade to clear up more playing time for Al Jefferson and Kendrick Perkins...so who started tonight at power forward? Brian Scalabrine! Does this make ANY sense? The Celtics commentators claim that he's starting "for defensive reasons"...Brian Scalabrine is slow, unathletic and NOT a defensive presence and he's starting against perhaps the fastest, most athletic and versatile team in the NBA? Szczerbiak and Scalabrine aren't stopping ANYONE. I wish all of these analysts and commentators on the Celtics dime would take the red pill already and enter the real world with the rest of us! Eight minutes into the game the C's are down 16-9 and Al Jefferson is at the scorer's table. Wait a damn minute! Instead of having Al and Perk on the court at the SAME TIME (Perk has 4 points 4 rebounds and a block and NO FOULS after 8 minutes!) they bring in Al FOR PERK! So now Scalabrine is STILL ON THE COURT! WTF? LAME. The Celtics have scored 27 points with 4:29 left in the first half. Scalabrine and Wally are playing SHUT DOWN DEFENSE (for the unitiated, this is sarcasm)...the Suns only have 47 right now! Kendrick Perkins has been reinserted into the game ONE MINUTE AGO! Wally Szczerbiak pulled down his first rebound of the game with 5 minutes left in the second half. This game/team/management/coaching up until now has been a disaster. Paul Pierce has 7 points, Kendrick Perkins ends the 1st half with 6 points and 6 rebounds and Al Jefferson has 11 points while the Celtics are down 59-38. Wally, Scalabrine and Raef have done NOTHING and stopped NO ONE. Right now on NBA TV they are talking about the trade and saying that the Celtics made some questionable moves, so far the ONLY person to say that the trade was bad BESIDES MYSELF was MICHAEL HOLLEY! I resent the implication that I jumped the gun at evaluating this trade or that I threw a tantrum...children throw tantrums..they also lack the ability to see the big picture and have foresight. I'm an adult and I know what makes a team better and what makes them FURTHER away from the goal of a championship team. If your not going to win, at least be entertaining and build towards it...Moving Ricky Davis has screwed this franchise for at least another couple of years...unless they move Pierce at draft time..anyone seen Olowakandi yet? These moves spell the THIRD TIME IN THREE YEARS THAT PAUL PIERCE HAS BEEN SCREWED OVER BY THE MANAGEMENT...He will either be traded or try to get out of town the first time a deal presentsw itself. Remember, I 've forgotten more about basketball than most of you that post on here will ever know. I've seen the writing on the wall SEVERAL TIMES in my 30 years...what free agent would sign with the Celtics with their track record of standing behind their basketball players or bringing in help that STAYS AROUND? Add into that the media that overscrutinize trivial things about players and MOST FREE AGENTS WOULD PASS. Why is Scalabrine STILL ON THE COURT? One.
I feel your pain. We got the same thing in here with Toronto. The media will only look at the negative, when/if the GM is fired.
The Celtics lost ANOTHER close game due to bad decision making...this team was ripe for the plucking. The game was only made close by the fact that Paul Pierce (enjoy him while you can Celtics fans) did a Kobe Bryant impression to begin the second half of tonight's game (40 points, 33 in the second half). In the starting lineup Scalabrine (2 points) and Szczerbiak (5 points) contributed little offensively and defensively. Kendrick Perkins and Al Jefferson did come to play...just if Perk could've spent more time on the court...I mean the trade was made to GIVE HIM MORE MINUTES...RIGHT? He was damn near a double double in short minutes. The Celtics opted to go small and stayed there at a time they could've used a defensive presence...WHERE WAS HE AT THE END OF THE GAME? The Suns allowed the C's in the game because they ran out of gas (last game of a six game road trip) and the Celtics (Pierce, Perkins and Jefferson) became more aggressive. Tommy Heisohn keeps saying that Szczerbiak had a good game...I don't know what he saw, I guess he's looking at it through kelly green colored glasses. Oh yeah, didn't Ricky Davis get traded supposedly because of making "too many turnovers"? The Celtics total turnovers have GONE UP since Ricky's departure....no more double talk or propaganda or excuses, people...it was a bad team before and now the team is WORSE. Why did I quit my original thread? Well, READ IT! At the beginning I was enjoying it, compare the writing style at the length of the posts...towards the end it was OBVIOUS that I began to LOATHE writing it. I'd go on other sites and people would post more and were a lot more vocal than they were on here. Greg Dickerson just made an excuse for Szczerbiak going 1 for 9 and Gary Tanguay ISN'T GOING FOR IT! This is the first time I've seen somebody speak the real. Donny Marshall just said that you can't make excuses for bad basketball....WHO DO YOU KNOW WHO SAID THE SAME THING? This deal didn't make the Celtics better. They will flounder more than they did before. They are even further from where they were BEFORE THE TRADE, in the immeadiate future AND THE LONG RUN. Only a HISTORIC, LANDMARK DRAFT DAY DEAL can pull this franchise out of it's doldrums. Based on Danny Ainge's previous track record can any user that frequents this board honestly think that HE can pull one of those off? I'll personally take an educated guess and say NO. One.
now now now hold on just a minute. theres a LOT of words i've used to describe Mark Blount over the years, but "fast paced", "high scoring", "energetic", "exciting" are not among them. Maybe high scoring from time to time but only when he really feels like playing
GrnDynasty, you say that people are molded by the media; but you're just as naiive as those people. You base a lifetime worth of fandom on one move that hasn't even played out yet. It was obvious that the Celtics made the trade for the future, so how can you base its outcome on the 2 games after it? Also, Wally finished the game with 10 rebounds. It was a close one.
How exactly does a team with Scalabrine, Szczerbiak, LaFrentz, Dickau and Olowakandi seem to be building for the future when they're STILL heavy with ridiculous contracts and salaries and Boston isn't a prime spot of attraction for free agents? Well? Who's NAIVE now? As I stated earlier H.ayes, the ONLY WAY to make a quick turnaround is to move Pierce in a blockbuster deal which would more than likely happen on DRAFT DAY....Do you think that Ainge can do one good deal out of six or seven and then turn around and pull of a GOOD/GREAT ONE that will put them immeadiately back into contention? That is a fantasy! Here is something else, the Celtics are 1-3 since the trade and are coming up on a tough section of the schedule where they play Orlando twice, Miami, Cleveland and the Clippers before the All Star break...expecting them to win 2 or 3 out of the next 6 is wishful thinking. The Celtics will be in the 2006 Draft War Room this June trying to do the impossible...Ainge ISN'T Red Auerbach! One.
