I love this trade so much. Hey, a 1st round pick is great, but in this draft it can't compare to a player you could sign with this cap space. What GM wouldn't like to start from this situation? Cap space, a young franchise player, and a high draft pick. I love Wayne Embry. I love Isiah Thomas even more.

With all this GM talk, if Embry keeps making solid moves like the 2 he has made so far, why not take the Interim tag off and hire him if we can't find a legit GM?

    this was really unexpected
i really liked rose..but i dont get smth
if we are rebuilding whats the point of trading our pick away
but i dont know..this money will probably be used to re-sign Mike James

    life must suck for davis
this is what he had to go through:
    A) became an all-star with the raptors..was having a good time
[IMG] wife made him demand trade..his excuse was that the Canadian education system sucks..and he wants his kids to attend an American school
    3) he gets traded to Chicago..hes happy
    4) gets traded to NY..upset at first..but after a while he decided to make NY his home and moved his family there
    5) goes into the stand and gets suspended for 5 games
    6) his wife just got arrested yesterday got throwing a coffee mug at someone else..lol
    7) the day after his wife got arrested..he got traded back to toronto..and his wife cant leave NY because she has to attend court
    LOL

I highly doubt Davis reports. I hope we didn't trade Rose and a 1st round pick for nothing.

the pick kills it, but alteast we got some size in return and rose is off the books. I'm not too phappy about this trade, but hey, it's movement on Embry's part. This puts us in a better rebuilding situation after this season(but then again, any trade that involved Rose, would have).

I'm guessing some sort of a buyout will be arranged. As long as it's not for too much, I'd rather have him gone and without his whining.

Yeh this trade is okay. Who cares if her reports or not maybe we can just buy him out for cheaper.

The only thing is I don't see any potential FA's next year who will change the raptors fortunes dramatically. Peja is probably the top FA, followed by Ben Wallace (just can't see him signing with the raps), Al. Harrington, Jason Terry and Bonzi Wells. The FA's i do like: Joel Przybilla, C, Portland, Reggie Evans, PF, Seattle, Nazr Mohammed, C, San Antonio.

However, Maybe we can make another trade and pick up a legitmate NBA Star.

I hate this. We basically lose a young player in this deal. Rose has been playing good as of late, and giving up a first round pick in exchange to save 16 million for next season isn't worth it. It's not let we're going to land any marquee free agents this summer anyways. What a waste. I honestly don't care about Davis-- I don't want to see him in a Raptors uni again. I'll be happy when his contract is up, but I'll be sad when I see the Knicks drafting a good young talent with our pick.

Essentially we traded Carter for Antonio Davis, Eric Williams, Joey Graham and two second ro unders.

I think this is a clear sign the Raptors are trying to make Bosh happy and re-sign Mike James. I must say, I'm not liking this perspective as a Raptor fan, but be grateful. At least your first round pick doesn't belong to the Bulls.

Well the Raptors will have 36 million in salary next season.

If Mike James opts out, we will have 32 mill in salary. If Eric Williams opts out we will have 28 mill in salary.

Assuming the cap is at 50 mill, we could have 18-22 million available. If we spend 4-5 mill on Mike James we should still have 14-18 mill available on a few other good pieces.

If Alvin Williams were to opt out we would be really really happy, but I doubt that would happen :*(. He won't give up 12 mill over the next 2 years any time soon.

So lets say we will have 14 mill

PG: James/Calderon/Martin - pg situation solid
SG: ???/??? - need starting SG and backup SG
SF: Mo Pete/Joey Graham/Bonner - pretty good SF situation.
PF: Bosh/CV31 - PF situation solid
C: ???/Pape/Hoffa - extra minutes can be filled by Bosh/CV31

So we have 3 main needs
    -Starting center
    -Starting SG
    -Back-up SG

I know some people will say Mo Pete plays the 2, I think he can play stretches there, but I think he is a better defender at the 3. I think he is 6-7 and the faster SGs are just too quick because they are shorter.

I think if we can draft a SG or a SG/SF who will be the back-up for a while that would be fine. With 14-18 million we should have plenty enough to get a decent center and a good SG and possibly another backup SG.

i just read some report about the trade on sports.yahoo.com

Apparently, toronto sent away rose+1st round pick AND an undisclosed amount of cash

now this is a pretty bad trade for toronto i think...i understand why NYK would want 1st round because they know toronto is desparate (i don't like it though from toronto's point of view)...but why give away cash?

If he retires i believe the raptors will still have to pay him, as well he wouldn't be fined.

ah hahahaha the man has a point! all I gotta say is OUCH! and for all of you out there saying that this is a good move for cap space....who would want to sign with us???? Unless we OVERPAY why would anybody sign on with a team that is in constant turmoil, run by a hockey fan, and the laughing stock of the NBA along with Atlanta?!?!? Why not let Jalen play, ride out his contract and still have the first to either package for our other first for a better pick, etc etc etc

    Awsome trade!

We can't keep developing new rookies forever. We have a solid foundation of young players, and it's time to start bringing in more experienced players rather than keep drafting rookies that won't be good for another 2-3 years. To get good free agents we need cap space, and Rose's contract was killing us.

If AD starts whining or doesn't report I hope we fine his a** and keep him here for every day of his contract. Getting traded is part of the job, deal with it. They way we dealed with alonzo was discraceful.

At least the opportunity is there to sign someone, plus the Raptors can see how well CV and Bosh play together the rest of the season. I think the goal right now is retaining Mike James, and now they have the money to pay for him. I'm sure the Raptors will have to overpay for free agents, but if these free agents help them win, it's worth the risk. It also shows Chris Bosh the franchise is doing all it cans to build around him through free agency.

Anyone with a chance at landing Oden is not going to trade that opportunity away.
