the reason why he's struggling so much from the line is because this is just his first year out of highschool. he's probably nervous as hell when he steps up to the line because there are a billion people just staring at him and screaming and all that other stuff people do, as opposed to the 100 or so people at his highschool games

that's no excuse, 7-23 and claiming "you're like shaq, but you make free throws"

His current percentage aside, Bynum is a better foul shooter than Shaq...at least Bynum makes his misses look good...Even when Shaq makes his, it looks like it's going to dent the rim

what? So just because his shot looks better than Shaqs, it means hes a better free throw shooter. Well theres a ton of guys whos shot looks better than Shawn Marions and they arn't half the shooter he is.

Until Bynum has backed up his words with proven stats you have no way of knowing that.

He's a flippin rookie, what do you expect? Some people don't start hitting their foul shots until their 2nd-4th years in the league. Should he have made the comment? No. But was it out of excitement and was he kidding? Probably. As his game develops, his foul shooting will. To nit pick like this is childish, he barely gets any playing time, and when he has most people are excited because he plays fairly well, so you have to find a negative? This isn't a negative you can take seriously, seeing as he doesn't get a lot of minutes.

^^When Shaq was a "flipping" rookie, he shot the second best Free Throw Percentage out of his 14 year career. He shot 59% that year and the only year that was better was the year after the Lakers three peat at 62%. I'll check out some other guys free throw shots as a rookie and their career.

    Shaq
    Rookie: .592 %
    Career: .530

    Kobe
    Rookie: .819 %
    Career: .833 %

    Tim Duncan
    Rookie: .662 %
    Career: .690 %

Here we have three of the best players today and their rookie year free throw shooting is similar to their career free throw shooting. The only dramatic difference is Shaq and he was better as a rookie. He also has no right to critizize a top 5 player in the league as a guy who never played a minute of an NBA game. Disrespectful

What was the point of this thread? Bynum shoots a poor FT%, big deal, he's lucky to even play in any games at this point. When he gets some consistent minutes I guarantee you he'll shoot better than Shaq from the FT line.

I was recently looking at Bynums stats on his NBA.com player profile and I thought it was pretty funny how he shoots a worse FT% than Shaq after making that comment. I can see if he too like 5 attempts, but after 23 attempts and only making 7? Pffft</div>

stop trying to back shaq, especially when he refuses to get better, He should have let that guy (Rick Barry?) teach him to shoot under hand free throws, becaues shaq just builds a brick house every game on the FT line... think.. if he learned to shoot FTs good he could have been a 35 point scorer through his career..

Someday he will be a better shooter then Shaq from the line. It's not saying much. But he will. I say his shot looks like a 70% type shooter.

Like Shape said, what's the point to this thread? To bring negative light to he Lakers most hyped player outside of Kobe right now? It's pure hate. That simple.

Also, backing Shape, if Bynum got more minutes his free throw shooting would go up. Kobe, Duncan, and Shaq all got constant minutes in their first season, Bynum is lucky to see 15+ minutes in a string of 5 games. He's been getting some PT lately because of his play against the Knicks.
