<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">NEW YORK -- Pleased with his play on the court, Nike is ready to test Kobe Bryant's ability as a salesman. Bryant's first televised ad with the shoe company will debut during NBA programming Thursday night, more than 2? years after he signed an endorsement deal with the sneaker company in the summer of 2003. Soon after he struck the deal with Nike, Bryant was charged with sexual assault in Colorado. The ad coincides with the release of the Zoom Kobe I sneaker Saturday and seeks to capitalize on Bryant's renewed popularity. Interest in the Los Angeles Lakers star has been the on rise this season, especially after his 81-point game last month, the second-highest total in NBA history. "Kobe's inclusion in marketing and promotional material is an acknowledgment of his elevated level of sports performance," Nike said in a statement. The commercial shows Bryant shooting free throws, then doing other drills. His voice narrates, 'Love me or hate me, it's one or the other. Always has been. Hate my game, my swagger. Hate my fadeaway, my hunger. Hate that I'm a veteran. A champion. Hate that. Hate it with all your heart. And hate that I'm loved, for the exact same reasons." The theme of the ad seems to play off the fact that Bryant, though long one of the NBA's best players, has never enjoyed total acceptance from fans. </div> Source

I'm surprised they're taking that approach with him, it's pretty forward- but it's real. Something Kobe has always been accused of not being. In fact I like it, it's basically saying "you know the story...I'm not gonna act like you don't know....make up your mind". It's cool that he's embracing the fact that he's never been accepted, it's edgy. Kobe on the ad: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"I expect the same reaction I normally get -- some people will like it and some people won't," Bryant said. "It's truthful. I think it's important to do ads that are not as we know ads are usually done. This one is one that is true to form. It is real, it is honest. We're not selling an image. It's not like we're trying to polish my image or clean it up."</div>
I'm pretty sure it will be on TNT tonight. There will be a doubleheader on and they'll be releasing the reserve rosters for the All-Star game. I'm sure they will show it time and time again.
it doesn't sound very original. we've heard this before.. "Tell Me I Can't. I Don't Hear You." (AMARE) Now THAT is a sick tagline. I also like the Carmelo one with the chick singing "oooh" but it will be interesting to see kobe on tv commercials again. remember that mcdonalds one with him and the kids in the park and he had that nappy fro that was funny
its a pretty good commercial, but i couldnt really hear what kobe was saying. i mean, i could hear it, but it sounded like he was mumbling.
I loved the ad. It was not too overly dramatic, and it got it's point across. Nike's doing a great job with their advertisement recently. And I love my poster I got from Carls Jr.
My friend just told me Kobe is gonna be at Fox Hills Mall @ 11 tonight, has anyone heard anything about that?
saw the commercial yesturday, it was nice, just like sprite commercials he did, it shows him working on his shots and him working out... great commercial
www.finishline.com has the Black & Gold as well as the All-Stars. Get 'em quick!! Free Shipping Coupon: 874125 Someone send me an email if they find the Black & Gold in 9.5.
Does anybody have a clip of the commercial? I haven't seen much TV lately edit: nevermind, found it http://www.youtube.com/w/Kobe-Nike-Commerc...be%20commercial
I was disappointed. I was just thinking of who I thought had better adds and i realized I was naming off almost everybody. Got to stop getting so deep with Kobes adds and just make one like the one VC has.
I agree, it was some what disappointing. I didn't like Kobe narrating his own commercial. I do like the message of the commercial, but the visual aspect of it was too, generic and a bite off his old Sprite commercial.
The sprite commercial did it better, it was dramatic and exciting watching him explode during box squats...jump off the line doing sprints.....avoiding an opponent in a boxing ring... this just showed him doing free throws, we don't see if he made it, I don't recal there being music or not...but still it's "real" so that's cool. I think what nike is doing is showing Kobe as he is with almost NO storyline/script/image. He's always been said he was too fake, now they are showing him about as real as he can get without showing him brushing his teeth
