Because the West is stacked with forwards, I guess. Personally I would have gone with Chris Paul or Mike Bibby over Ray. You might say Paul needs to serve his apprenticeship first, but he has the Hornets playing .500 basketball. Where has Ray gotten us? The Kings are 22-27, but Bibby has been playing his heart out for them and they'd be a lot worse off without him, given Miller and Peja pre-trade are having sub-par seasons. And if we want to reward winning (ie - Sheed making the East bench), why not Jason Terry?
Might have something to do with him averaging 24, 4 and 3 on 44% from two and close to 40% from three. Ray was added as the west needed another shooting guard.
It's amazing that Ray is enjoying his finest season statistically and it seems as if it is one of his worst seasons as a pro. Kind of reminds me of Stackhouse when he was a Piston. He averaged close to 29 points a game and it seems as if he was playing strictly to appease the statisticians. There are a bunch of guards that I would have selected over Ray Allen. Terry, Davis, Paul, Bibby, Cassell, hell even Jason Richardson. If only Melo was a two guard. There should be some type of penalty for Ray being suspended for fighting too. Ray's image and reputation is a lot better than the substance of his game and his character.
I feel bad for 'Melo. Although I'm not a big fan, he definitely deserved to be on the team this year instead of Ray. I suppose the All-Star game has to have balance in the positions, but 'Melo could definitely play the 2 in this type of game where nobody plays defense anyway. Ray, diplomatic as ever: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">They [the Sonics] work hard enough even though the record doesn't reflect the work. There's two positives we can take from all of this. One is the growth from the young players and for me to make it to the All-Star Game, because I didn't do it by myself</div> I'm sure all the guys who stood around 25 ft from the basket either clearing out or setting screens while Ray dribbled the shot clock down feel like a little part of them will be in Houston with Ray next weekend.
I feel bad for Carmelo as well. Last summer I wasn't so sure about him, but he has been incredible this season. What really did Melo in, IMO, wasn't his personal achievements but Camby and Martin being hurt. You have to think they would have won 3-4 more games if those two would have been in the lineup, and maybe the team record would have given him the extract push he needed over Gasol/Garnett. The thing is, have your starting 4/5 hurt for almost 1/3 of your games and still being over .500 is just another testament to how well he's played. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">It's amazing that Ray is enjoying his finest season statistically and it seems as if it is one of his worst seasons as a pro.</div> I was thinking the exact same thing - but its hard to evaluate a player's contribtutions during a horrid losing campaign, it just taints everything. Except for Terry and Cassell, nobody else was on winning teams either. The coaches won't vote those guys on just on sheer #'s - even though they probably deserve to be there. I guess thats the 50 cent question, should team record be a major component considered when choosing the all-star team, or just a tie-breaker?? Basically, should the all-star game be a collection of the NBA's best players period - regardless of team performance??
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting M_Cage89:</div><div class="quote_post">The coaches won't vote those guys on just on sheer #'s - even though they probably deserve to be there.</div> That's an interesting point. The coaches should know better than anybody who deserves to be on the team. Maybe we're missing something when it comes to Ray Allen. I find it hard to believe they'd put him on the team if they didn't believe he was the best option for a guard.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Iron Shiek:</div><div class="quote_post">There are a bunch of guards that I would have selected over Ray Allen. Terry, Davis, Paul, Bibby, Cassell, hell even Jason Richardson.</div> I was thinking that too. The only thing I can figure is they needed a three point shooter and a shooting gaurd at that. So cross off T, D, P, B, and C because they are all point gaurds, and you are left with JRich who doesn't shoot the three as well as Ray and beats his wife. They PR pick was Ray and the popular pick was Ray. Face it, winning or losing, everybody loves Ray.

yea melo got robbed, michael redd too, there should be no way bosh and pierce making the east team, their teams are horrible, they are talented players but damn look at their teams, going no where

It is nice to know i still serve a purpose around here now that Bosnian is gone. Did I tell you I am going to be a daddy.
