We did all we could to lose it, but full credit to the boys for fighting back in the last few minutes and getting over the line. Hopefully this is the start of a turnaround.
I credit that win 100% to Gasol. For once this season, he actually came up big in the fourth quarter, getting to the line to make it a two point game, then blocking Odom and scoring with a sick reverse layup on the other end. Chucky Atkins tried to throw the game though, taking horrible shots and going 1-1 from the line with three seconds left. I'm with you. I think the Grizzlies are much better off without him.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Voodoo Child:</div><div class="quote_post">For once this season, he actually came up big in the fourth quarter</div> That's incredibly harsh. Yes, like everyone else he's gone missing at the end recently, but it certainly hasn't been a season long thing.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Jerry West:</div><div class="quote_post">That's incredibly harsh. Yes, like everyone else he's gone missing at the end recently, but it certainly hasn't been a season long thing.</div> From what I've seen, it's actually been quite the opposite. He's had a season full of disappointing fourth quarter performances seasoned with a few great performances here and there. The numbers reflect that too. I'm sure this stat has changed since then, but the Commercial Appeal reported that his fourth quarter ppg as of last Monday was 2.8 ppg. That's the reason why a lot of people were saying that he shouldn't be an All-Star. John Thompson, for example, went on a rant about how Gasol shouldn't be an All-Star because he wasn't showing up in the fourth quarter when the Grizzlies played the Spurs on TNT, so it's not like I'm alone on this one. Gasol has been a ghost in the fourth quarter way too many times this season.
Why has it taken until now for you to turn on him? As little as a week ago you were talking him up as a deserving All-Star, now you seem to dislike him immensely.
VC, Pau is an All-Star caliber player and he deserves to be in Houston, the grizzlies have the record they have now because he's taken it to the next level and without a legit point guard giving him easy buckets. No doubt Camby deserved it but he won't be in Houston so there's no point showing such hate for him.

I'm not trying to attack the guy. I'm simply saying that he's progressing. There's really no escaping the fact that on the season he's been a ghost in the fourth quarter, and yet last night he took over the game. By pointing that out, I'm not turning on him at all though, just creating discussion... As for what I said in the NBA Forum about him not being worthy of the All-Star team, that's a statement I would have agreed with from the very start of the season had I known Camby were going to be left off. I love the way Gasol's playing this season, but I just don't think that when his team's lost 12 of their last 16 and he's averaging under 3 ppg in the fourth quarter that he should make the team over the NBA's leading rebounder and shot blocker. Again, that's not "hate" against Gasol at all, that's just my unbiased opinion on the All-Star roster.

I think you're reading a lot more into my posts than you should. Every player has flaws. Should we just ignore Pau's negative attributes and just praise him all the time? We're losing, we're in a slump, and Pau Gasol had disappeared in the 4th quarter throughout this stretch until tonight. What'd you want me to talk about, his good 3rd quarter performances? I just praise the guy when he should be praised, but I'm not really a fan of blind optimism, so I'll also critique the negative aspects of his game when they need critiquing. Aside from anything negative I say about his game, I'm still a fan of his at the end of the day though.
I have always disliked Pau Gasol! Always, but last night i finally realised why he's an allstar. I still don't like him, but i understand. A total heartbreak for me,though, a total total heartbreak!

I am simply wondering why, if it's been such a problem, you only felt the need to raise it recently?

Just check through the archives of this forum and you'll see that. I'm only bringing up his lack of fourt quarter productivity in particular now because it's been a problem now more than ever.
