<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Hornets Trade For Rockets’ Norris OKLAHOMA CITY - The New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets announced today that they have acquired guard Moochie Norris and cash considerations from Houston in exchange for center Maciej Lampe. “The acquisition of Moochie gives us a solid veteran at the third point guard spot,” said Hornets General Manager Jeff Bower. “With the recent injuries to Chris Paul and Speedy Claxton, we felt it was important to bring in a player who had experience at running a team as extra insurance.” Norris had averaged 2.2 points and 1.0 assists in 29 games with the Rockets this season prior to the trade. The eight-year veteran has averaged 5.2 points and 2.8 assists in 429 career games, including stints with the Grizzlies, Sonics, Knicks and Rockets. His best NBA season came in 2001-02 when he averaged 8.1 points and 4.9 assists in 82 games with Houston. Lampe had played in just two games with the Hornets this season, averaging 2.0 rebounds. He was originally acquired by the Hornets from Phoenix along with Casey Jacobsen and Jackson Vroman in exchange for Jim Jackson and a 2005 second round pick on Jan. 21, 2005. Lampe averaged 3.4 points and 2.7 rebounds in 21 games for the Hornets last season. </div> http://www.nba.com/hornets/news/norris_trade060213.html Ugh...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting playmaker15:</div><div class="quote_post">lol y would Houston even consider this guy he's a bench warmer.</div> Moochie's contract was too big for his skill. Lampe's contract is only $850k. So the Rockets are just get rid of his contract. And with the Rockets guards getting healthier there's no real need for Moochie. Some people are thinking that this trade may set up another trade. So we'll just have to wait and see.
6-11 that is a perimeter shooter. I think it was this week that I said the Rockets need a PF that can stretch the D like S.Padgett did last year. It can give Yao more space if the threat is there. He's a young guy with unique skills that can get better. Plus it was for Moochie. If he can knock down his first shot or two, even in garbage time, he might find a way to get some meaningful minutes. Now the rockets sorely need somebody else to handle the ball. I really don't want to see Wesley play point ever again.
Well, welcome back Adrenaline (me). For those who didn't know, I moved to Oklahoma and recently moved back in January (to Houston). I saw the NO/OK Hornets play and this team was searching for a trade for a PG back then. Norris isn't at all a bad player just, never has been the best PG on the Rockets or close. The Hornets in my case made a bad trade, I never even heard of this guy but, taking he's young and had potenial I'll be watching him play closely.
I am so hyped about this trade. If you guyz don't know the miami heats were considering drafting him with the sixth pick a lot of top teams in first round were until they foundout his buyout number and things like that. He dropped to the knicks then was considered a jem traded to phoenix then soon people gave up on him. I feel he has solid potential to be a good perimeter shooter and a solid player in the post. With a defensive coach i can really see him improving his game. Look for him to be a pretty big contributor like a poor mans nowitzki if he develops and he could be dat in his prime and reason he sit so much in NOK is becuz byron scott does not like him like how he is sitting Smith

Sort of like a younger and slightly better Stromile Swift. Meanwhile, Lampe was benched because he has no post moves and has bad rebounding skills so he can't play powerforward. Although he can shoot three's, he's too slow to guard the small forwards of the league, so he's pretty much your grade A tweener.

Houston obviously want the cap room, and the Hornets (who have plenty of space) get a solid third PG without a long term commitment. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting AznxBaller:</div><div class="quote_post">No, Scott's benching Smith because Smith is lazy, doesn't work on defense, and has bad shot selection. I'm happy that we have more cap room... like Julio-R said, this might lead to a trade which gives us a player with a bigger contract than we give up.
Man... who's gonna be the back up for Alston now??.. now i think the rockets might try to get a pg for anderson!!
Welcome back Adrenaline, indeed. Apparently the Rockets get a TE with this deal (which makes sense because of contract issues). Lampe is one of 'em prospect forwards.. not the greatest rebounder. He can spread the floor well though, more like a Juwan with some greater range. Unfortunately he isn't laterally quick, makes him a huge liability on the smaller forwards, but he does have some low post defense. I do believe Lampe does have post moves. Not the physical ones, but he does operate well on the baseline. This was probably just a cap-room move, the Rockets get a VALUABLE trade exception with it, and a under-achiever. Van Gundy is good with most of them not named Swift. If he came here to learn the game, Lampe is in good hands.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting NYCfinest123:</div><div class="quote_post">coulda got j.r. smith his contract is even lesser, but oh well and is lampe's contract expiring??</div> They couldn't have gotten Smith at all. Lampe's deal expires at the end of next season, but i think there is a TO for the following year. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Umair15:</div><div class="quote_post">Man... who's gonna be the back up for Alston now??.. now i think the rockets might try to get a pg for anderson!!</div> They can happily have Chucky Atkins
well don't we use Head as our backup PG? I thought we did so we were ok on that front, especially when we get Sura back. I think we're good at the point personally... I half wanna think we need a 2 guard, but then again wesley decided to play again, and of course we need a PF if we're trading Swift, but I don't know who I'd want (since KG might be a little out of reach lol). I just want a good trade I guess. we need help sure, but we need to get healthy more than anything IMO.

Nowitzki didn't catch on that quick either. But for this guy to end up even half of what Nowitzki is now is gettting your hopes WAY WAY up. Good move by the Rockets (getting rid of Moochie). They paid NOK some money as well. I would guess 1.5-2.0 million.
lampe went to 3 different teams or something and didn't do well in all the teams. He's not good but getting rid of moochie isn't bad
umm i am still high on him hoping van gundy's fundemental rebounding technique will work which i believe it will becuz it sticks better in somes heads than others. Plus i relieve believe he will be a contributor i don't know wut u guyz say but i believe it will and we will just have to wait and see.
Not a bad deal...we werent gonna get much in return for Moochie anyway...but I think their plan is to develop and Lampe and by the time 2007 rolls around (which is when Deke's contract expires), hopefully he'll have progressed into a legitimate backup for Yao..
Houston did need a bigger bench. But lampe did have potential but he seems too soft. NOt a good complement to yao but u never know. Is he a misfit?IS he big enough for center and not quick enough for PF position. Well, if he doesnt fit, he could be waived anyways. IF only he had the heart of chuck hayes.
