For example, the Warriors were offering forward Troy Murphy, guard Derek Fisher, swingman Calbert Cheaney and forward Zarko Cabarkapa to Boston in exchange for Paul Pierce (which does fit under the collective bargaining agreement). The Warriors could sweeten the proposal by using their exception to acquire Celtics point guard Dan Dickau in a second transaction, cutting the $6 million he?ll earn over the next two seasons off Boston?s payroll.</div> http://www.contracostatimes.com/mld/cctime...rs/13859730.htm
After watching Jrich turn the ball over in a double team and miss free throws, The Truth is looking mighty good right now. I don't care if he's going to be 29 or 30 next year. I doubt Boston gives him up for those four guys, though.
I get the impression the writer made a hypothetical deal that was to illustrate how an exception is used. I don't think this is nessecerily anything that was disscussed. It's unlikely we give 2 6-11 guys and add an older, more expensive 2/3 swingma. If J Rich was the key Warrior, then it would seem credible, maybe not a good move to make, but an option.

We're just daydreaming. I'm just saying the Truth is looking mighty good right now because at least he can drive and hit free throws.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">So we get an overload at SF with the WOman (Dunleavy) and MP2 backing up Pierce?</div> Actually, Pietrus is a 2 not a 3. This move would add serious depth as a running team. The only issue here is that Ike would need a backup at the 4 still.. Taft needs to be healthy for this trade to work. You'd be looking a a front line of 2 rookies, a 2nd year international and 1 veteran that is not playing particularly well.
Pierce is an all around player. He can score in bunches in high %'s, he can rebound very good, and he can dish the ball. He's like Dunleavy in that he's all around, but a quadrillion times better. And he's having a career year. Anyway, I doubt boston would do this trade unless either J-Rich or Davis was involved.
A lot of the Warrior "trading chips" are relatively young talents who will tend to get better, perhaps a lot better. However,in a trade, teams want to low ball, and so Monta becomes just a round 2 undersize G with unglamorous stats. Pietrus becomes a raw, lower scoring Morris Peterson,Biedrens a foul prone Darko, and Foyle the most expensive defensive specialist in history. With the Warriors coming off a brutal mid winter sceduale a bit off the 8th seed,we look a bit erratic,a bit ragged and that's not a great showcase. If the team pulls togather, gets in the playoffs, does okay, then it's a rising tide that lifts all boats...our guys get notice and respect,we see everyone having more trade value. Of course, we may also find we'd rather keep some guys we had thought of dealing. There are a million variables. A very important one is how another team values the guys we have.
Rerem that is very good point and important in terms of trading and making deals. It's how other teams values the guys we have and if there's an interest in that player or player package that could help their own teams (either skill wise or financially). Yeah, so why re-sign Dunleavy to so much before the market could set his value? His skill was always in question wasn't it? ...and now they put an inflated price tag on it. That I'll never understand. It's like we beat ourselves in terms of being financially responsible after the Fish/Foyle signings. At least Murphy and Jrich showed flashes of being worth that money more times than Dunleavy. I don't wish Dunleavy gone especially because he's got time left to be a good player, but I just think Dunleavy is the next in line when Fisher/Foyle (and sometimes Murphy) somehow lose the fans' ire for the moment. An 8-9 million dollar bench player are things we have too much of already and if it loses us Pietrus who is a very capable 16-17 ppg scorer with defense, people are going to hate Dunleavy even more for not being the piece that got us a little bit closer on beating the previous seasons' record.
I like Pierce because he's in his prime and will be a good experienced player for the Warriors. Also, he wouldn't cost us as much as KG. We already know having KG and not having enough good players around him doesn't work. We can offer JRich or Murphy, Fish and MP for him. JRich is a much younger SG who they can pair with West, Wally, Perkins and Jefferson. We may have to include a pick as sweetener for them to take Fish's contract. A wild trade would be Baron and Foyle for Pierce, Delonte West and Raef LaFrentz!!!
