I've heard this referred to on the radio a few times today, but I'm really sure what was said. Apparently, Legler's a ESPN columnist who said that Toronto isn't a basketball city and should move to St. Louis, along with comments about Bosh signing with a real team. Anybody know exactly what was said?
Not a basketball city? Toronto fans are passionate, but also unpatient, because we havn't seen a winning team in 4 years. The Carter trade set this franchise back at least 2 or 3 steps. Atlanta and New Orleans are the teams that should be moved, not Toronto.

Atlanta shouldn't be moved, they have alot of fans. Toronto has all of CAnada behind them and Blazers are the team to be moved.
Thats just sum dumbass american being ignorant. The raptors sit in towards the top of the league in attendance....with a bad team.......alot of decent teams in the nba have worse attendance

Most of the people here who post not in this forum but justbball are american. I would reword from "dumbass american" to just "dumbass"</div> I understand what you mean about labelling and such of americans, but really, as a Canadian all I've heard from american atheletes when it comes to this topic about Canada having an NBA team, many americans can bash our team simply because we are not american. It is an ignorant comment in it's own. Think about it, Vince Carter wouldn't re-sign with the Raptors, why? Canada Chris Webber made a statement years back. He would never play for the Raptors....why? "because it is not the US" Well done Chris. Now Tim Legler says we should move to St Louis? Why? Here is the average attendence for all NBA as of Jan 2006. Toronto, though not tops, certainly is healthy enough to warrent us having an NBA team ) Detroit 22,076 2) Chicago 21,138 3) Dallas 20,099 4) Miami 19,938 5) Cleveland 18,832 6) LA Lakers 18,813 7) San Antonio 18,797 8) New York 18,538 9) Golden State 18,174 10) NO/Oklahoma City 17,958 11) Utah 17,886 12) Sacramento 17,317 13) Washington 17,193 14) Phoenix 17,085 15) Milwaukee 16,992 16) LA Clippers 16,940 17) Toronto 16,836 18) Charlotte 16,564 19) Denver 16,470 20) New Jersey 16,362 21) Houston 16,332 22) Seattle 16,190 23) Indiana 16,131 24) Memphis 15,881 25) Boston 15,666 26) Minnesota 15,484 27) Atlanta 15,121 28) Philadelphia 15,021 29) Orlando 14,669 30) Portland 14,055 So these comment are strictly made by ignorant americans for the only reason is, we are in a different country then the rest of the league. Just to point out, we are 29th out of 30 for road attendence. Just proves Americans don't like the Raptors ONLY because they are Canadian. We are 4th in the league for PPG and #1 in the east for scoring. If fans like high scoring games, Toronto is a good venue. What else could be the reason for such a low road attendence? Just to point out, with the exception of New York, North America's largest city we have the highest attendence for a losing team (under .500) I am sick of it. Which World Series had the fewest viewers of all time.....yup you guessed it....the two that the Jays won. Would that not be enough proof to say that Americans as a whole don't care much about Canadian cross border pro teams? So when you are constantly bombarded with 'dumbass' quotes from americans, it doesn't take long before the frustrated Canadian blends the two and start saying 'dumbass americans' because as a whole, we have reason to say that.
I understand your fustration - but we can't assume the opinions of Tim Legler speaks for everyone at large. The problem here being that bashing Canada pro sports teams viability is quotable and usually picked up by the Canadian media. No one is writing a story in the paper when someone says having a team in Toronto does make sense or acknowledges that we actually have a good market... Although i have to admit there is a lot of Canada bashing .... I just would rather not label it as everyone because there is always someone out there with a rational opinion.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Bobcats:</div><div class="quote_post">Well, they are a good team this year, but they have had horrible attendance since moving to New Orleans.</div> yea agreed, i didn't catch the point of "attendence" just thought u were talking about how good the team was.
Here what the Toronto Star Said: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"I want to see Chris Bosh somewhere other than Toronto," Legler said after suggesting a ridiculous three-way trade involving the Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves and Raptors, which would see Bosh shipped out of town and a unimpressive return package heading to Toronto, featuring Antoine Walker and a bunch of expiring contracts." "Toronto never is going to be good." </div> Source
Toronto is never going to be good? Yeah, they have a young superstar that's only 22, they will have cap room, and another lottery pick this year. Yeah, NEVER. Now, I'm not saying that the Raptors will make the playoffs this season, or next season for that matter, but Bosh and Villanueva is a solid core to build around and then the role players like Calderon, Peterson etc. know their roles. This team has great chemistry and are one of the closer teams in the league, even though they have had a pretty tough season. To say NEVER is stupid, unless this moron actually thinks that Stern will move Canada's only team to America.
Thanks for the link The_Answer. Mann, there's so many things wrong with what he's arguing. All I gotta say is, Toronto is a better NBA city than half of the teams out there. I'm sure he never said this about Elton Brand and the Clippers (excluding this season), or KG in Minnesota. Most of this hate, probably stems from some sort of resentment towards a non-American city having a team. They should come to the city, before they judge it though. Its easily one of the better cities in the world, with a surprisingly knowledgable fanbase. St. Louis had a chance with a team, and they obviously didn't have as much support (both financially and with the fans) as the Raps do.
