How do you know if a pass-to-basket sequence is counted as an assist? I mean, sometimes you see Steve Nash or Jason Kidd or anybody for that matter passing to somebody who then scores a basket, but it isn't counted as an assist. How do you know when to count it as an assist?

The pass must result in a made field goal with less than 2 basketball moves. If a pass is dropped off on say, a fast break, the ball must be dribbled no more than 2 times (if I remember correctly) or if dumped in the post, one move with an immediate shot resulting from that pass must occur. The feild goal must be a "direct result" of the pass itself. In otherwords, if you dump it in the post, a big man holds it, backs in a couple times, terns, pumps, fakes, then decides to shoot, the pass did nothing to result in that field goal. I hope that made some sense for you.
