<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Willie Green thinks he will be ready for game action in three weeks and is eager to provide the 76ers with a spark wherever they need help. But first things first. Green, the third-year guard who worked out with the Sixers during yesterday's practice at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, must get his surgically repaired left knee as close to 100 percent as possible in the coming weeks. And then Sixers president and general manager Billy King has to believe Green is healthy enough to help for the stretch run and sign him to a contract for the rest of the season. Neither prospect is etched in stone just yet. But Green is cautiously optimistic that he can make it back in early to mid-March with the blessing of orthopedic surgeon James Andrews, who performed surgery in July to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament. "I'm pretty confident moving on it," Green said yesterday. "Today was my first real day of intense workouts, so I did pretty well." Of course, Green will do nothing more strenuous than a few drills until he is under contract. He learned his lesson last summer, orally agreeing to a five-year, $17 million contract, then injuring his knee in a summer-league game before signing the deal. Green, a restricted free agent whose rights are held by the Sixers, has been rehabilitating his knee in his hometown of Detroit. It's not "great" news, but I welcome Willie back with open arms. However, don't expect him to be playing in games in three weeks... Also, he isn't going to be the "savior" that a lot of Philly fans think he will be. He cannot play well with Allen out on the floor, and Allen plays 43 minutes a night.
i agree with BigMo that he isnt going to be the "savior of our team." but hopefully he will help this team coming off the bench and giving AI a rest or something. if anything, his return should boost up the ticket sales temporarily, so BK should be happy.
This will probably turn out in two ways. 1. He fits greatly with the Sixers guard rotation with AI, Ollie, Iggy, and Salmons and becomes our 6th man that takes the Sixers to the next level. 2. He struggles and plays 10 minutes a game.(we have seen this before with him and Salmons), and the Sixers fall out of the playoff race(they prob won't be in the playoffs the way they're performing right now) Bottomline, I see only extremes in his return. It's either really good or really bad.
