Lakers Show Interest in Francis <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Orlando Sentinel - Add the Los Angeles Lakers to the list of possible suitors for Orlando Magic guard Steve Francis. The Lakers are "aggressively" pursuing a trade that would send forward Lamar Odom to the Magic for Francis in a multiplayer deal, NBA sources told the Orlando Sentinel today. Odom, a 6-foot-10, 230-pound forward, is an all-around player lost in Kobe Bryant's immense shadow with the Lakers. He was acquired in that megadeal involving Shaquille O'Neal and the Miami Heat . Odom, who is averaging 13.9 points and 9.2 rebounds, has four more years remaining in a contract worth about $51 million. Francis, who has three more years and about $48 million left on his deal, is in Houston, where he has a home and is attending the festivities involving the NBA All-Star Weekend. Francis' agent, Jeff Fried, said today that the Magic haven't informed him that a trade was pending. The trade deadline is Thursday. "There's no change in Steve's situation that I'm aware of," he said.</div> Source Well, well, well
Good to know that the Lakeshow threw their names in there. I'd love to see Francis in LA at this point. Anything can be better than what Odom has done thus far.
good! its great to know that mitch is at least doing something, but i dont really know how well francis and kobe will do playing together. they both need the ball in their hands to be effective, but im sure the zen master will think of something.
Francis will take a secondary role to Kobe, I believe. He knows that Kobe is the man here, and Francis knows he'll still be able to get up about 15 shots a game because of the doubles Kobe will see. Francis also has good court vision, although averaging a career low 5.4 in assists per game, playing alongside Kobe will definitly jack those numbers up. PG - Francis SG - Kobe SF - George PF - Kwame/Cook C - Mihm
IM not a big fan of Francis but I do agree it will give us a solid 2nd scoring option for the remainder of this season.
I've heard some rumors that it's a 3 way trade involving Denver, as well. We wouldn't be getting Francis, we would be getting Kenyon Martin (if he can stay healthy, it'd be perfect, an enforcer that Kobe needs) and Earl Watson. I was playing around with some trade scenarios, and this is what I came up with, I don't know if I like it though: Lakers Trade (to): Lamar Odom (Orlando), Luke Walton (Orlando), and Sasha Vujacic (Denver) Magic Trade (to): Steve Francis (Denver) Nuggets Trade (to): Kenyon Martin (LA) and Earl Watson (LA) I'm more of a fan of Lamar for Francis straight up, I'm hoping Mitch can push that on Otis Smith, but I doubt it, this is Mitch we're talking about.
nah... im not willing to lose walton ang vujacic coz of the chemistry... i just hope that francis won't try to steal the lead act from kobe by hogging the ball Francis 15 assists a game (if he passes to kobe) Kobe 50 pts every game (if steve gets the ball to kobe when he's open) hahaha!
I don't mind either trade mainly cause Francis can score more and create more than Lamar can....K-Mart can be a good inside enforcer on both D and offense...Earl is a good pressure guard which fits in well with our press and he can stroke it and he is quick....so I don't mind either trade

Kenyon Martin can be a consistent defensive presence for us on the inside, and honestly, I think 14 points a game from him (which is what he gets) CONSISTENTLY is a lot better than the 14 Lamar gives us inconsistently. Kenyon also brings impact to the game. He's tough, if someone fouls Kobe hard, you know he'll step up. Lamar won't do that. Then you equate in Watson, a quick guard who can hit his shots. That's an awesome acquisition for us, in my eyes. PG: Smush SG: Francis SF: Kobe PF: Kwame C: Mihm or PG: Watson SG: Kobe SF: George PF: Kenyon C: Mihm
Probably won't happen but at this point, Francis will be a good addition to the team who needs to help KOBE take some load off his shoulder.

Personally, I love Kenyon Martin going back to his days in the meadowlands. I just hope this trade happens. And if it doesnt, I'd styll have hope... But if the lakers dont make any trades, we can all just hope for LBJ23 in 2007. But I have a good feeling about this Kenyon Martin deal... Stay Tuned!
Great.....now the Lakers are ready to trade Lamar Odom, we should have traded him when we could have got Ron Artest. I hope we get Franchise, if not, the Kenyon Martin and Earl Watson deal sounds good too.. At this point, I just want a freakin trade to be done, I'm getting sick of this team disappointing us day after day, let's see some new faces that can make things happen.

My answer to that is no! If this deal goes down, we'd be forced to play Walton at Odoms spot and Francis at Smush's spot. Our lineup would look something like this... Francis Kobe Walton Cook/Brown Mihm .. If you think we have problems defensively now, wait until that unit steps on the floor..
^ at this point Im willing to take the risk and let Francis play with the team. We could have had RON! Its still irks me...

Why in gods green hell are you inserting walton instead of George in the lineup? And second, u said something about K-Mart being same as Odom defensively? I am not sure what Denver basketball your watching but with K-Marts aggresiveness on the court instead of Mr. Fancy Layup Odumb I'd pick K-mart over Odom anyday.
And I heard about a muiltiplayer trade that would send Odom to orlando and francis to denver. Is this trade pending or its just one of those rumors...
