http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/index.php?sty=59532 This is a link from the east valley tribune regarding Bryan Colangelo meeting w/ the raptors over all-star weekend about the GM's job. I have no idea if it was true or not, i guess we'll just have to rely on "unnamed sources".
I believe the Suns gave him permission to speak to Toronto about their opening. He's one of the best GM's in the business and one of the most respected in the league. I have no idea why he would consider leaving Phoenix, unless he's just looking for a new challenge. I'm sure he comes aboard, he will clean house and want complete control over all personnel movement.
I'm still puzzled over why Phoenix would let the Raps talk to him. Is it because they have a lot of trust in him, and don't want to seem too restrictive?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting dj_premium_plus:</div><div class="quote_post">i dont get it...he's under contract through next season...we need a GM pronto...what am i missing?</div> I don't think we need a GM pronto at all. Who better to GM the Raps then Wayne Embry. He has stated he will be the GM as long as the Raps need him. Translation: I came out of retirement to build a winner in Toronto. I want to GM but at my age, I don't want to be bogged down with a contract. I will be an interm GM, get this ship turned in the proper direction, have everything set in place that will produce a winning team, then give up the reigns. I would bet that Embry will be a GM for all of next season. I think HE wants that position. ....I also think he's kinda qualified. I would hate to see a new GM before the end of next season because I think that Embry can do more then anyone else in the league for the Raptors.

When a good GM comes aboard, he wants this his way, he dosen't want to just inherit something and go with it....thats not how it works.
Maybe he sees talent. Raps have been playing well as of late, still have 1 first rounder, they have an all-star...
I heard teh reason is because in Toronto he will be getting triple the amount he's getting now. Which IMO is a great reason to leave anywhere.
Also, the Phoenix forum has a thread about how the new owner doesn't have the same relationship with him.
