Weren't we talking about signing Diaw?

I got to thinking last night - weren't we in the middle of talking with Diaw about getting him suited up in a Sonics uni before Phoenix snatched him up last offseason?

If this is true, was this a opportunist's nightmare? If I remember correctly, we signed Brunson instead of Diaw and moved on (and I'm sure I can speak for all Sonics fans when I say this: I'd have rather had Diaw than Brunson).

Just something I thought was interesting...

They traded for him. Before the draft, I suggested the Sonics trade the pick they used to take Petro for Diaw and the Hawks' second rounder. We might have had both. Just to remind everybody. [IMG]

Or we could have had just had Diaw and Gelabele and another player that we would have traded to Memphis--since they seem to love how we draft in the second round.

Hindsight maybe 20-20 but no one can fault how we've drafted in the first round since Sund has called the shots.

The rumour was Atlanta's pick 31 and Diaw for our pick 25, supposedly so the Hawks could nab Jarrett Jack (which as it turned out couldn't have happened anyway).

To be honest I'm pretty happy with Petro, and who knows how Diaw would go on a team stacked with swingmen, in player turmoil and without the reigning MVP and Marion sharing the floor with him.
