The kid can flat out shoot, he can pass as well as nearly any guard I've seen, and he has turned into a real PG. I've gotta admit, I thought a lot of him from the start but he has become better than I ever expected, no wonder Ainge loved him so much. This kid is a diamond. At this point he really is the second best on the team after Pierce. Now that he has confidence, I dono, he's about 1000000 miles further along than Chauncey was at this stage!

He's a great point guard........no doubt. And only time will tell how much more he improves but I only disagree with one thing. I think that Jefferson is second to Pierce and after Pierce passes his prime, I'm pretty sure that the Celts will run the offense through Jefferson.

You may be right, but running an offense through a point guard is really the only way to win big these days. Making a guy a primary scoring option is another thing apart from running an offense through him. While Al may turn out to be a primary scoring option, an offense can't be run through him, he doesn't have the ball-handling skills.

Delonte is as good a candidate as anyone to run this offense in the coming season.

    Game in, Game out

I think that Delonte really does have the skills to run the team. He's shown that he can pass (not yet up to the level of the top points, but pretty good), shoot, defend and rebound. His drives to the hoop are helped by the fact that he's left-handed, and that no one seems to know how to defend that. The largest problem he has right now is consistency, and that is the kind of thing that changes with experience. At the rate he's going, he's going to be a good, legit point by some time next season. And people are going to have to play him like one, because he's got a real jumper, he ain't no Kenny Anderson. My thought is that the time he spent around Gary may be helping him along.

Tell me, have you ever had trouble defending someone who is left-handed, brother o' mine?

Maybe. You ever had a hard time defending anyone at all?

I love Delonte West but I dont think hes a true NBA point guard yet. He needs to imrpove his assist to turnover ratio which currently stands at 4.4/1.7

Nowadays, who really is a "true NBA point guard"? The only ones in the league right now are Kidd, Knight, Nash, and possibly Jason Williams depending on your definition.

i suppose your right. Tony Parkers Ast/To ratio and all that great either and he's on a championship team.

I still think Chauncey Billups is a true point guard. He just knows how to find the open man and doesnt give the ball away.

    Say...

What you will, but the Celts (starring Delonte) are within six of the Suns in the fourth. West has put up a 25/3/5 so far with two steals and a block. He might not be a pure point, but he's definitely something. Also, keep in mind that this is his second season, and it takes pgs longer to mature than most other positions.

Delonte is playing better at this stage in his carreer than Nash and Billups...He has the heart of a warrior and is starting to realy lead this team when they need him most...If he keeps steadily improving as i'm sure he will we will be set with a quality pointguard for years to come...

No Celtic is even mentioning Marcus Banks anymore...

The best part of his great game against PHX was the defense he played on the reigning MVP.

    Loved the win

Last night in Portland, but the aforementioned Delonte brought nothing. Not sure what the deal was. Played as many minutes as usual, but was avoiding jump shots, or the ball completely. Still inconsistent. Doc pulled him off the floor late and screamed at him. That is my one major worry about Delonte, he seems to want to play down to the level of the opponent. We'll see how he does in LA against the joke that is Smush Parker.

I think Doc needs to learn to do a little nurturing here. He's not exactly winning over the hearts and minds of the fans either.

Delonte shows up again, with 19 and 10. Although Smush Parker seemed to irritate him with the press, as did Vujacic. He had the same problem during the preseason. I'm not sure if he gets tired (he definitely plays a lot of minutes) or frustrated by the press. Without Delonte, this game wouldn't even have been close. His passing is getting better and better.

thats what i was wondering but it would seem that hed only really be a threat to win that award if its been a really slow year as far as improvement goes. But then maybe it has been. I mean whos really doing that much more than their career average other than mike james and kobe bryant?

I don't think he'll be a candidate since he didn't really even play last year.

And so far it looks like Boris Diaw has a pretty good shot. His numbers are nasty on a good team.
