First of all: I know every major media outlet in America has covered other team's interest in Paul Pierce, but the only people who were mute on the issue appeared to be Danny Ainge, and anyone he might be dealing with. There didn't appear to be ANY talks, as Paxson vehemently denied any dealing, and that was the only option anyone was talking about. So where in god's name get their stories from? Are they just making this stuff up? Other than that, does anyone have any idea where this team is going in regards to leadership and coaching? This team hasn't the foggiest clue of its identity and upending the starting lineup night in and night out isn't helping. I agree with everyone on this board that Doc needs to go, but what do when do then? And more pressing still, what do we do until then?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Squishface:</div><div class="quote_post"> Are they just making this stuff up? </div> yes i dunno what the team does in terms of leadership down the line. It all starts with the coach so Doc needs to go. Other than that I dont know. Pierce is a fine leader i think. He's just never had the pieces around him to prove that he can lead a team all the way
The "rumor" was just an idea by Sam Smith. ESPN took it and rode with it in order to further advertise their new "trade machine".

And they never ran the story about Paxson coming out and saying bluntly, "no, that trade isn't even being discussed, that's dishonest reporting." Yet they continued to report it. What in the f is going on there? I worry about Danny's choice of coach at this point, if you want to make a change at this stage of the season, I say bring back a coach who knows how to harness a defense, and let's get back in competition at least. Right now, we don't have the pieces to play competent defense, but I'd at least like to see someone try to teach it. In short, let's bring back ol' Jimmy the Leprechaun, and his boy Dick Harter. Or maybe Harter is dead, who knows?
the C's have it made as of now. They may not be good this season or the next but give it a few seasons and the Celtics will be contenders. Look at this lineup in the future: PG Delonte West (Already showing signs of being the next best PG) SG Gerald Green (The next T-Mac?) SF Paul Pierce (We all know what he can do) PF Al Jefferson (The next great big man for the C's) C Kendrik Perkins (Developing as a center. Shows a lot of potential) Land a few more solid bench players and I see championship.
they are set for the future, but ainge and doc aren't setting a tone as to what they want to focus on. i'm not sure pierce would want to wait 3 or 4 years until all these young guys develop. playing scalibrine and olowakandi so much won't help the cause either.

How it works out is dependent mostly on injuries and player development. With the current roster advanced two seasons or so. I can tell you what the Celts are going to have needs from the bench: -a point that can flat out run the offense, doesn't need to be a shooter. Defend ok. -A center who can protect the inside and rebound. A Kelvin Cato/Stephen Hunter type who actually wants to play. That way Gomes can still play the four. This center would have to understand defensive rotation. A question for the Celts' fans: Does anyone think that Wallyworld is going to stay in Boston? I don't dislike him. I'm just wondering about it. On this projected team, he could definitely be a bench gunner, and he would be thirtyish. He doesn't really duplicate Pierce's skills, and his three point shooting appears to be getting better anyway. He's also not the type of player who relies on his athleticism, so he'll age better than some. But would he play from the bench in a couple years? And will Ainge not try and move him while the value is still high? Wally's knee says no. But there are some bad GM's out there. And of course, this all assumes the demise of Doc. The irony of the team now starting to come together with the short rotation (because of injury) seems to be further evidence of his inability to develop talent. Of course this can be seen as suggesting that he can coach, and the team is winning because of him. I doubt it however.
