Supposedly, Ed Snider said on WIP that we have traded Lee Nailon, and a second round pick to Cleveland for... a worse second round pick. [IMG]

So, we give up a player, and a higher second round pick, to get a lower second round pick and save $300,000. Wow, Billy and Ed, you guys are geniuses! [IMG]

I say we fire Billy and promote Tony DiLeo as our new GM.

    Patterson went to Denver.

Here's the details of the 76ers trade...

Lee Nailon and a 2006 second round pick to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for a conditional second round pick in the 2006 NBA Draft.

    Wow......

Giving a 2nd Round pick AND a player for an even worse 2nd round pick.

Are you guys sure this pick is worse than our current one? I know the Cavs record is better if that's what it comes down to.

Its complicated but I think the Cavs have the Bucks 2nd round pick, which is still worse than ours. Fire BK now, its the stupidest trade I have ever heard of. If you dont want a guy, cut him.

Horrible trade but the reason they didnt just cut him and prolly the whole reason they did this trade was so that when we sign willie green we will be under the luxary tax. Thats how committed to not going over the tax that they would give up a potentially better draft pick

Actually, you may have a point there. I know they were probably trying to unload Hunter to make room under the tax to sign Green, but again, I don't want us signing him to a big contract when he's coming off a knee injury.

Also, from what a lot of people on other boards are saying, by staying under the luxury tax the team gets $10 million at the end of the season. Supposedly, the teams that do not exceed the luxury tax threshold receive an equal portion of the money the teams that are over the threshold pay. So, pretty much, the Knicks are paying everybody else in the league $2 million to allow them to have a high payroll.

I don't know if that is exactly how it works, but that's what other people are saying, and they are knowledgable posters.

But, we wouldn't be able to use the $10 million to sign players or anything.

Anyway, if we don't sign Tim Thomas, then this move looks horrible. Hell, even if we sign Thomas this move looks horrible, but hey, it's Billy King and Ed Snider.

Anyone wonder how a conversation like this even gets started?

    BK: "Let's talk LeBron James"
    Ferry: "No"

    BK: "Let's talk Larry Hughes"
    Ferry: "No"

    BK: "Let's talk Drew Gooden"
    Ferry: "No"

BK: "Let's talk Eric Snow, Anderson Varejao, Zydrunas Ilgauskas etc."
    Ferry: "No, No, and No"

BK: "Let's talk 1st Round picks"
    Ferry: "No"

BK: "Let's talk 2nd Round picks"
Ferry: "Ok, but only if you give me Nailon for wasting my time"

Well...if according to whoever said that the Cavs have the Bucks 2nd round pick, then we could possibly have gotten a higher pick. I mean, the Bucks are only half a game above us. Anything can still happen.

Its a conditional pick, and WHY EVEN TRADE THE PICK AT ALL? If you dont even think you will get the Cavs pick, why offer your 2nd too? If you just want to get cap room to sign Willie Green, why offer the pick too? Just trade Nailon for a conditional pick that you probably wont get.

Snider will not fire him... he's in love with him. They might as well get married to each other.

A complimentary pick? I have no clue. Do you mean a conditional pick?

A conditional pick is pretty much a pick with a stipulation attached to it. The stipulation can vary... for example, a team may put a lottery protection on it in a certain year, meaning if that pick is in the lottery, they do not have to give it up. Another example of a stipulation would be something like "if the pick falls after the nth pick, we won't give it up."

There is a lot of different things that can happen with a "conditional" pick.
