"We are looking for a guy with some experience who can step in and not be overwhelmed by being on the floor with our guys," Pistons president Joe Dumars told the newspaper.
"We're looking to see what happens on the waiver wire and kind of make a determination then," Dumars told MLive.com. According to the site, the Pistons are expected to make a pitch for Tony Delk, who is expected to reach a buyout settlement with the Atlanta Hawks sometime next week.

Although nothing can be done on Detroit's part until the Atlanta hawks waive him, Tony Delk appears to be the guy they want.

This will be yet another great move on the part of Joe D., who would be adding a veteran who has all the qualities they would want in another guard.

He can score, is a pretty decent defender, and definitely won't be overwhelmed by being around great players.

People forget that this is the same kid who played on a Kentucky team where the entire starting five featured first-round picks or guys who spent several years in the NBA.

I was around that team when they made their championship run. Delk wasn't the most talented guy on that team, but he was the glue of that unit. He was the guy, frankly, that stood head and shoulders above the rest in terms of being mentally strong.

If you want to play for this Pistons team, mental toughness is an absolute necessity.

Of course, Detroit will give consideration to some other guards out there, like Detroit native Howard Eisley and Anthony Goldwire, who played nine games for the Pistons last year.

But in the end, I really believe they'll wind up with Delk who may be the final piece in what's shaping up like another championship run.</div>

Would be a good move to be the back-up PG with Hunter.

Cato and Delk would certainly improve the bench

This would be a smart move for the Pistons, we're seriously lacking depth in the guard department and Delk would be a nice pick up. I'd be very happy to see him join us, him or Eisley, either one.

I would love to see this, He has always been a great spark off the bench and Atlanta is waisting him. Hopefully Atlanta releases him because he is just rotting on the bench. Hope it goes through. [IMG]

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting ESPN and their mothers:</div><div class="quote_post">If Detroit gets Delk: WHATAMOVE BY JOE D!!!

If Miami gets Delk: CHEMISTRY ISSUES!!!!</div>

he'll be a great addition to any team playing for a championship. I'm hoping Miami can get him cuz I personally don't like Jason Williams cuz he lacks any defensive tenacity.

Reports say Delk will likely sign with the Pistons early next week

I think now Hunter/Delk duo can be as tough defensively as the James/Hunter back-up duo from 2004. I can see Delk playing the same kind of role Mike did.

yeah that's the first thing I thought of too: Mike James.

James and Lindsey were so effective defensively for us off the bench and it really helped us take the title. Delk would fit in in a similar role, but he also is a vet so he brings more leadership to the team. Either Eisley or Delk would be great, as we lack guard depth.

I think Delk would be a great pickup. I agree with Allnet on the points on defensive prowess. He won't be the offensive sparkplug James was but, he will add offensive talent in his own right [IMG]

    Just for some official conformation:

Delk was waived by the Atlanta Hawks on Feb. 24 after playing in one game this season.

Delk, in his 10th NBA season, played in 56 games for Atlanta last year, averaging 11.9 points and 1.9 assists.</font></div>
