Hopefully TMac doesn't come out of his pre-allstar slump. Warriors need this one.

I heard T-mac might attend to a family issue (death in the family), but I'm afraid it's word of mouth. I got nothing to go on.

Without T-mac the Rockets are a...(don't know the record) uh not a good team. If the Rockets are using the Yao/Mutombo center tandem, hell let's run! Don't forget to rebound, Warriors. Also, get the pass out and don't let Fisher run the break! Just cherry pick it if there's a path to run out in.

With Murphy's matador defense, I hope we don't get killed too badly inside. Freakin' Rafer Skip to My Lou Alston might get a career high going iso on Fisher and then burning Murphy inside.

More like c'mon Warriors get those rebounds. We're already outrebounded 10 to 5.

Man I like Barnett's analysis of the team. Dead on. The team doesn't move enough on the isolation plays. When the team gets caught standing around, they're not ready to receive the pass and not ready to get on the offensive glass. Completely static team with very little off the ball movement. I like the fact Barnett isn't constantly kissing Dunleavy's butt this year.

Does anyone have any idea what Monty's general philosophy is? With Davis (the alleged play killer) out we should be seeing Monty's gameplan in its entirity but so far it looks the same but less fluid because Baron isnt playing. I don't know whether this team is a running team or a half-court team. It seems like all we do in the half court is try to set screens, which fail 90% of the time, and end up shooting a three most of the time.

I know what Monty's philosophy is: inside to outside ball movement, uncontested shots, play defense.

Well obviously we're not an inside team with who we got. and for the millionth time we cannot run the break anytime we want with a guy like Fisher or if we can't get the rebound and get the outlet pass to the ballhandlers.

Baron Davis is not the problem with the Warriors offense if he's giving up the ball sooner. The problem is ball movement. ball movement. I don't know why people keep forgetting this after its been explained over and over. We're not a good passing team because we lack chemistry and we have no inside game and no off the ball movement. Montgomery is trying to get these guys to play more off the ball, but some of these guys can't even catch.

C'mon Run, you know what it is. And you know what this team's problem is: it's how our big men play with our guards. No inside-outside game. Our screens suck, our inside to outside passing game sucks, we can't score high % shots in the paint. How do you win without any inside presence or good shooters on this team that has four other guys that likes to stand around while one guy goes one-on-one? It's what we've talked about the first half of the season. The coach got nothing to work with even if I agree that Monty's offense (especially late in game) doesn't work.

I suppose you're right that the players can't knock down an open shot or a shot in the paint but they look like they have no idea what they should be doing during a play. The plays are supposed to get our players good shots, which they rarely do, it seems to me like most open shots come from Baron's passing. This goes back to Monty's discipline though, he may be a great coach but if he can't get his players to move without the ball or get them to run plays then hes totally worthless. The team just looks lost and has no chemistry and I think that has to be at least partly credited to the coaching.

I wish Monty's offense works but it doesnt. Whether its the players ignoring him or whether its his gameplan that doesn't work is irrelevent; it doesnt work and he isn't fixing it.

You're right we're no inside-outside team, so we should be outside-inside. In other words, get the guys going in the backcourt and the wings. The only time we REALLY play well is when we're hitting out shots from outside. Then our inside game opens up.

But that's not what we do. We keep going to the screen roll, screen roll, screen roll.

If we're going to go inside, then we should call a play for Ike by clearing a side for him or get something to AB. JRich can slash, but he needs a good passer to get it to him and have some lanes opened for him. The screen roll should be done by Fish or Dun and JRich or the weave or some more motion stuff in the backcourt.

Run, I think you're going to be an awesome basketball analyst when you see how other teams are getting it done with a lot less on their roster. [IMG] I know coaches get the credit when the team does well, but all the blame when they don't, but we don't have to see it that way. When a team fails, everyone has to accept responsibility. For our franchise we've been in the gutter for a long time. These turnarounds don't happen overnight, though, especially with the addition of one guy. One example is T-mac couldn't even lead the Magic to the playoffs and he's awesome.

Everyone knows that we can't force the talent to meet these hurried expectations when they were never worthy of those expectations to begin with. It's like the second half of last season, where people were quick to label this a playoff team when they haven't even played many of the other teams through an 82 game marathon of a season. It's just jumping to conclusions about the talent of this team. It was a movie preview and it was better than the actual movie.

Aside from whatever we think is better coaching. We as a franchise need to play better ball and get better talent at positions to create an inside/outside type of game. That is what matters and it can't be fixed right away right now. A lot of good basketball is about floor spacing, recognition of where the defenses are shifting, making good decisions, moving quick and under control, and setting good plays that create separation between the shooter and the defenders. Plain old teamwork and talent that fits together. I think it's safe to say we lack a LOT of those elements and compatability.

We're not in control. We're not ready or we just don't have the mind set or the hustle for it. You can't 100% blame the coach for that, especially when it's a 5 player game and we're struggling in the open court as well as the half court no matter what we do with Baron in or with Baron out. The coach has his assistants there so you can't throw 100% blame on one guy saying he's stubborn or he's an idiot. Those guys are sitting down figuring out what it takes to win and we're just outsiders looking in. It's a team sport and its an investment game and it takes every person on every level of the franchise from the coaching staff, the players, to the front office to make this a playoff worthy team. Again, it doesn't happen over night, no matter what popular expectations were. We have to really disect these things and get feedback on how we do before we claim to be a playoff team.

And I don't think Baron is a problem, but he can be a problem when he's not playing team ball. When the ball stops moving, the low % shots goes up and we stop playing defense. What makes Baron great though, is when he's involved, he's so creative, so mentally quick, he makes it easier for the players to play unorganized because of the way he loses defenders and draws double teams which free up shooters. Plus, he's one of the only guys that can pass well inside the paint. He's just got excellent courtvision in that he can see the play before it happens and he's got great physical/mental tools. He's not soft, he's not slow, he's not weak, he's not dumb.

But see, teams know how to play us now because of last season. They can slow Baron down and that affects our offense because he was never a great shooter and we have no threat inside or any other ballhandlers that can take a defender off the dribble like he can. We all rely on just one guy for dribble penetration and that's what we cannot afford to solely rely on in a 5 on 5 game. And it's hard for Baron Davis when he doesn't have the help he needs. I agree with Barnett that players stand around doing nothing when Baron is causing defenses to collapse on him. That is the bad habit the Warriors need to break and therefore they need to improve their team fundamentals and work at it until they get the execution right. Also we can't have inconsistent starting 5 players and it's one reason Diogu played center for a while over Foyle and Dunleavy got benched in favor of Pietrus because we can't expect certain things from our initial starters.

Also, one of the reasons the Warriors aren't executing right now is because guys are mishandling the ball, mishandling the pass, or passing up shots for even worse shots. Inside-outside passing games will lead to good shots and we're not consistent from game to game in this style. We don't have any dribblers or guys who can create their own shot well by themselves, so the team needs to move their feet more (and quickly like Monta Ellis, Biedrins, Pietrus) and take the shots the defenses will give them and really space that floor with an inside-outside ball movement. We need to create opportunities as a team, not force shots solo.

It's that simple, but the Warriors just don't play well and I feel bad for a coach that was put in a situation where he just can't win. It's not fair to the guy. It's like he was set up to fail. And the idea of replacing him wouldn't change anything. It has everything to do with how this current ball team can grow together and the faith that the GM chose in this team. That's the only choice for now.

On a positive note, we have a shot of playing some good ball. Our best stuff came from out of bounds plays where we ran some stuff the defenses did not know what hit them. We just need to play smarter and do everything we're supposed to do to win. We know what the Warriors talents are and we know how they can be stopped, so we need to develop more weapons and other ways to execute and manufacture an offense while being a good defensive team and hiding our weaknesses.

Anyway, Run sorry for the long post. I know you're capable of understanding the Warriors and understanding what is good basketball. It's not just collecting as many all-stars as you can, outrunning the other team, it's the whole team dynamic, the number of weapons they have, how they can matchup with other teams, and how they hold up to an 82 game season. Talk to the 30 year old guys on this site that are intelligent and know basketball and they'll tell us young guys the same thing.

See what we have to work with? How can we play a high% game when Foyle's dropping two or three passes a game? Foyle would not be a starting center on any other team in this league. He is what he is and he isn't what we want him to be.

Then on D, look how bad Murphy is on defense. Damn... If it weren't for rebounding needs, scoring and consistency, he'd be gone. Can't play tight team defense when other guys have to pick up his slack. I could care less about his wonderful numbers. Is he making the team better at both ends and playing team ball? I feel like he's a turnover waiting to happen the minute he tries to drive like a guard.

If only we could move quickly and under control. Pietrus really isn't about playing under control. And Murphy and Dunleavy and Foyle really need to do something about moving quicker. I swear there's no way defenses would lose them. A tortoise could guard them and stay in front.

Anyway, I shouldn't be singling out players, it's really the way the entire 5 man team plays and how they close the game. At least the players are doing the little things late in this game. But now they're missing opportunities plain and simple.... sigh I guess effort over efficiency as Bob Fitzgerald says.
