<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Despite the Hornets' push toward the playoffs, a rift has developed between Coach Byron Scott and second-year shooting guard J.R. Smith. Both acknowledged before Thursday's trade deadline they haven't been on speaking terms since early January after Scott demoted Smith in favor of Kirk Snyder in the starting lineup. Scott said Smith has not gotten better from last season, which forced him to lose his starting job. ... Smith said Scott has taken it personally against him, from no longer playing him on a regular basis to having little communication.</div> Source Haven't spoken since January! Maybe they can send him out to piss and moan with Salim Stoudamire out in Atlanta.
Crazy...this is high school stuff with the whole non-speaking deal...how does that happen between a player and his coach? Now I'm actually surprised Smith wasnt moved someway, somehow...
Byron Scott was quoted as saying,"I don't waste my time talking to people who don't listen." I completely agree with this statement and approach. If JR Smith isn't willing to learn and listen to his head coach, then he needs to ride pine the rest of the season. I still think the Hornets should deport him to the DLeague and keep him away from the rest of the players. He needs a reality check on how good he had it with an NBA franchise. Once they send him to the DLeague a lot of perks disappear with it, and hopefully the humility of it all helps him mature.
here is what byron scott said in the article <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"I don't understand what more you want. (He) comes in with five minutes left in practice (Monday in Indianapolis) and goes and sits down, and when we finish scrimmaging, (he) goes to shoot free throws, and he doesn't come to us and say 'Coach, I'm sorry that I overslept.' It's not acceptable." </div> and here is what j.r. said <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"I wasn't surprised at all, because his ego is too big in order to put something petty aside and try to win the game," Smith said. "At this point, something has to be done; I'm not going to prosper from this situation. When you can't communicate with the head guy, something is wrong. I come in early, stay in late, and if that don't work, I don't know what will. So there is nothing for me to do. I've approached him (Scott) numerous times, tried to call, set up meetings -- no communication. Every team I've been on, I've always been friends with the head coach." </div> who do you think is BS'ing
It doesn't really matter. All that matters is that the coach, who has a lot of support, will always rule, so all this proves is that Smith is both immature and stupid.
Both gotta get there problems sorted out, its not one hand that claps alone right? You gotta use both. Same kinda thing here, not a good analogy but I used but Im sure it'll get my point across.
The coach is your boss. You should not show him insolence. Treat him with respect, and he will be glad to reciprocate. He wants you to succeed and maximize your potential. I am on Byron Scott's side.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting NYCfinest123:</div><div class="quote_post">here is what byron scott said in the article and here is what j.r. said who do you think is BS'ing</div> Obviously it is the player who is BS'ing. You only have to watch JR Smith's development from last season to this one, and you don't see much improvement. He has amazing talent, but an amateur level game.
Even so, the Hornets cannot afford to give up on a first round draft pick at this stage of the team's growth. Surely the organization and Smith's agent are doing everything possible to turn Smith's career around with the Hornets or to convince another team that he's a future star. I'm amazed with the detrimental comments the player and coach are making. It's senseless and is setting back the Hornets' growth in talent and is obscuring the playoff focus. Doesn't the ownership and coach care that this team makes the playoffs. They can do it with Paul and West and Speedy and a tremendous effort from the supporting cast. No one thought they did in October, but now we believe. Let it go coach. Be there for Smith if he wants to be a part of the team. If not, just let it go and let the general manager handle the situation. Please stop belittling the kid to the press. It's not worth it and it makes the coach appear in a less than flattering light, as if the coach doesn't know what to do, and the team needs undivided attention and coaching in each game so we don't have 7 minute stretches of sloppy basketball. Let's make the playoffs, remain the most compelling story in the NBA, keep winning the hearts of fans all over the world with improbable wins and CP's infectious smile, and keep the Kings and Jazz wondering what happened. Don't let the big story be that Ron Artest single handedly forced the Kings into the playoffs and that the Hornets were lucky and hit the wall. No one on the Hornets is hitting any wall. Are they?
i just realized that jr smith has played again with the hornets. Does it mean that the rift is over? or is it just because hornets are in a slump right now so they need a new energy?

Lets hope this continues and Smith gets traded to another city that wants him understands what he can do on the court. Yes he is inconsistent but that will come with more time. Sometimes it does seem like Byron Scott does have a big ego if that practice thing he said was true it clearly states it. Smith did go out the court and continue to work after the practice so i mean what bad could it be. He probably would've went and talk to Byron afterwards anyways
JR will be in the doghouse until he gets traded or if he has a crazy offseason workout+summer league+beginning of next season
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting durvasa:</div><div class="quote_post">I wonder how Popovich would have handled JR Smith if he got traded to the Spurs for Brent Barry.</div> JR Smith >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Barry
Any minutes he's getting now will be lost if he continues to take dumb shots at clutch periods in games. Taking glory shots isn't how you get out of a doghouse, hard work over an extended period is how you do it.
