I hate Mike James. We don't need a shoot first point guard, that takes bad shots down the stretch of the game, and worse yet, dosen't give Chris Bosh his touches. What a way to ruin Chris Bosh at home, and a great game by Charlie V.

You can't bash James and say great game by Charlie. Who set up his open jumpers? He played well, but his defense down the stretch (aside from the strip on Dirk) was very poor.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting og15:</div><div class="quote_post">I don't think that's it. The main problem is that we get too stagnant down the stretch. All we ever want to run is iso Bosh, and if the other team plays him well, and denies him the ball, it's up to the PG to make something happen. We need to get less predictable in the closing minutes of games.</div>
I think you're right about that. Our offense seems to be solely dependant on Bosh. But, James can still swing the ball and get some movement going. I mean, that's basic offense right there. Instead, when Bosh isn't open, he looks for a pick and looks to create for himself. He's great at breaking down his defender, but I wish he would use that skill to get the defense to collapse, ala Calderon.

I can't put too much blame on Mike James though. Any time the team blows a lead that huge, its gotta come straight to the coach. Its not like it was a sudden lead change. A 20 point lead means you've got enough time to adjust, but he really seems to run out of ideas. IMO, everyone gets blame for these types of losses. Charlie V played poor defense. Bosh didn't protect the ball. But the coach and guards (because of our offense) get the majority of it.

Mitchell needs to be fired, his substitution patterns are absolutely horrible and he is way overreliant on Bonner.</div>

And who would you put in place of Bonner? WE HAVE NO BENCH for Mitchell to work with. Plus, he was trying to protect Bosh, James and Villanueva from picking up their 6th foul. When we started losing the refs started calling weak fouls against us, BUT the most galling thing were all the turnovers. What'd the Star say? 6 straight turnovers = 6 straight 3 pointers...so that is what? 18 unanswered points! How does the coach prevent that? Does he jump on the court and MaKE Jose dribble faster to avoid the 8 sec call? Does he jump on the court and catch the ball that got thrown behind James? Does he jump on the court and not call the questionable offensive fouls the refs all of a sudden started calling against James? DID ANYONE ELSE ACTUALLY WATCH THE WHOLE GAME??? Ya it slipped away but Mitchell called timeouts when he should've and did what he could, it isn't his fault.

Bosh or Villanueva, actually. Who cares if those three eventually foul out? As I said in the other thread, it's much better to use your subs to close out a game on a 20-point lead rather than have your starters do it for you barely leading the game against a team on a big run.

Even when the Mavs went on that big run, Mitchell still kept the three on the bench. It's absurd, if you ask me.

I don't know who Villanueva was guarding at the time, but in that situation, I would have made sure he was guarding Dirk. Especially after that big steal he had on him at the end of the 4th quarter.

When the run started there was 10 minutes left in the 4th. You can't leave them on, you need them for if (or when in our case) you're subs can't hold the lead. You leave them on the bench to save them for when it matters, in case the game goes to overtime. Also if your starters get a 24 point lead, that would leave you to believe that they will be able to score when they go back out. What if Bosh and James had been left in and fouled out cuz that's the way the refs started calling the game. It was weak. Then everyone would be bitching asking why Mitchell left them in.
CV was guarding Nowitzki so Bosh wouldn't have to, play the guy you can afford to lost the most against the guy most likely to pick a foul up on you. And Mitchell said post game that he kept telling them to watch Dirk, but really anyone that knows anything about bball knows that. (cept the Raps i guess)

Bonner actually played as good defense as he could. Bonner is a 6'10 guy guarding a 7'0 guy that is quicker, more athletic, and can shoot over anyone in the league, I don't know how he was at fault when he stayed with him and got a hand in his face.
