Phil Jackson asked for veteran guard help prior to the deadline. Unfortunately, isn't wasn't addressed before the deadline, but there are a handful of free agents out there. Last night was an indication of how poor the Laker guard play is. The Lakers never found a replacement after Laron Profit went down with a season ending injury. I hope they are not counting on Aaron McKie to be the answer. I like McKie, but he's not physically able to stay in front of all the speed guards in the NBA. He's going to have a lot of rust if/when he comes back. Here's a list of players the Lakers should try bringing in: 1) Tony Delk - Will likely be waived by the Hawks - Can shoot the 3-Ball - Playoff experience - Solid defender 2) Penny Hardaway - Orlando Magic just waived him - Still a talented scorer - Tall PG ideal for the Triangle - Playoff experience 3) Howard Eisley - Free Agent - Stable at PG - Solid defender
It looks like detroit is after delk, So i think delk would rather go to detroit to win a championship since he is past his prime.

However, I think the team with the most money available gets first run at players who are waived.

It would give something for Smush to think about, perhaps he will start playing better when he realises he has competition for the PG spot. Similar to Odom playing great when he heard trade rumours. It would also be good for the ratings come Christmas Day, "Shaq vs his former sidekicks!"
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Brok3n:</div><div class="quote_post">How come Hardaway rarely played in NY?</div> Mainly do to injuries.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Three teams have taken a stab at him -- Detroit, Lakers and Miami. The favorite is the Lakers, because they have part of their mid-level exception left to give, whereas Detroit just has the vet minimum. He also knows he'll get more minutes in LA. Detroit needs to reduce the minutes on its starters, but Delk would be strictly an insurance policy behind Lindsey Hunter. </div> This is from Ric Bucher's chat wrap. Damn further down in the chat I read this ... <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Rick, the Pistons already signed Delk this morning. Get with the program! </div>
Rockets just waived Jon Barry ... <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Rockets will waive guard Jon Barry today, Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said, to give him a chance to hook up with a playoff team or retire. Players must be free agents by today to be eligible for the post-season if signed later. Barry, who has not returned to the Rockets rotation since coming back from a strained right calf Feb. 14, might have a better chance to play with another team, particularly the Denver Nuggets, who have been looking for a perimeter shooter. Barry declined to comment until he reaches a decision whether to continue playing or retire, a decision he said he would likely make by Friday.</div> Source
Seeing as Detroit already have Delk, Penny would most likely come to LA. We all know he isn't going to Miami, I don't think I have to explain why. I don't think we need John Barry, sure he's an energy player, but we already have Turiaf doing that job for us.
What about waving Slava and Wafer and Green and signing Leonard, Barry and Penny. We wouldn't have any gaurd problems then.
