I agree MrJ, Kobe is having a legendary season. The only problem with naming him MVP in my opinion is because his team is mediocre. All the past MVP's have had top teams in their confrences, Kobe's team might not even make the playoffs.
I'd love to get in a good old Vince fight wannabe, but this isn't the place. Both sides of the argument are already completely tapped and no one is gonna change their mind, so lets just let it be.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting vcwannabe15:</div><div class="quote_post">^^Wow another Raptors fan with stupid comments about the man who made Toronto what they are today. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting spawn:</div><div class="quote_post">82games.com or not, I truly believe Steve Nash deserves the award for how he has lead this Suns team. Second on my list would be Kobe because if you took him out of the equation, the Lakers would probably be the Bobcats by now.</div> Steve Nash is hurt by the fact that the Suns aren't quite as good as last year. But the formula doesn't take injuries into account, which is a flaw in my opinion (apparently, it didn't factor in heavily in past years).
If the Mavs can continue to play the way they have recently, I would think that Dirk Nowitzki would be a favourite to win the award. He really leads that team and, especially this year, has been that team's driving force.
Give me Marion over Dirk. Let me just lay down the stat line, and then I'll explain it with my own words. 41 mins 22 ppg 51% FG 32% 3pt 80% FT 3 off rebs 9 def rebs 12 rebs 1.7 assist 2 stls 2 blks 1.5 turnovers I notice alot of these plays Marion is invovled them are off the play, he doesn't need to dominate the ball to be dominate. I haven't seen a player that dominate without having that money touches without the ball. He's totally unselfish, always has been with Marbury, Kidd, Amare. The only flaw I see in Marion is in the playoffs, he hasn't brought it to that level he does in the regular season. But does anyone agree he deserves a couple of MVP votes?
I think Nash has to be the MVP so far...what he's done with that Phoenix team, without Amare and with a thin bench, has been amazing...but if the Lakers end up making the playoffs, I'd have to think Kobe is right there in the running...
I dont like to choose an MVP but a stat system of stuff, because there are much more variables that go into a teams success and what no. I would go with either Steve Nash or Kobe easily..
Where is Elton Brand in this whole conversation?? If i were to pick MVP .. i'd pick Nash or Marion. Marion is who i'd wanna go with though. Marion is 6'7 and got 24 rebounds today. Im not saying he should get MVP just for the 24 rebounds, but he is just a really good overall player. He plays BIG. He can shoot. He can get rebounds, obviously. He can do almost everything, without ballhoggin or forcing it. Marion is also one of the most underrated players in NBA in my opinion. He has never been talked about much. I would love to see the man honored for the hard work he puts in. And about Kobe. I believe if a great player like T-mac went on a mission to beat 82, he could get it. But does 1 game earn MVP? Kobe is my 2nd fav. player, but i have to be honest, he doesn't deserve MVP. He leads the league in scoring and such, but his team has gone nowhere. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting 02civic:</div><div class="quote_post"> Their all great players...but an MVP is supposed to be a player that cant be replaced without serious serious consequences to your success rate.</div> Hey, if you say that. Can i add T-mac to the list? Yes, i know T-mac doesn't deserve MVP. But check this out, without T-mac, Rockets are 13-1. And about Rockets as a team. Rockets have suffered injuries throughout the season, which hurts Tmac's chances, although he doesn't have much.

Being a Raptors fan should not make you a Vince Carter hater automatically. For every arguement you have against him, I can easily make an arguement back. I'm not saying how he ended his tenure in Toronto was right, but you guys need to not just forget everything else. Reminds me of a girlfriend situation. You can't just forget everything...and by the way, if you're going to blame someone, blame Babcock.

I think, by far, the most under-rated MVP candidate this season has been Dirk Nowitzki. He's the best player on one of the top 3 teams in the league, and yet he barely gets any serious mention as a possible MVP.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting 02civic:</div><div class="quote_post">The thought of Billups winning MVP honors astounds me. I mean he's a very solid player...but MVP? I'm not at all convinced this team wouldnt fare just as well with a Jason Kidd. I mean he's more than solid, but his ppg is only 18.5 his assists are good but only 8.7 (compared with nash's 11.2 last year). His defence is solid of course. He's got a nice ft and 3point % but his field goal % leaves much to be desired, being a 41% shooter. Dont get me wrong..he's playing great. But MVP is someone the team couldnt replace with anyone. I dont think Nash deserved it last year since a Jason Kidd, Tony Parker, Mike Bibby could of filled in nicely...not AS good but not much behind Nash. Same this year...you put Parker or Bibby on this team and they'll still go to the conferance finals and put on a good show. How far will SA go without Duncan? Cleveland without James? Players like Billups, Amare, Nash, Marion, Wade...thier MVP-ness is a result of the people they play with on the court. Their all great players...but an MVP is supposed to be a player that cant be replaced without serious serious consequences to your success rate. Tony Parker or Jason Kidd on the Detroit Pistons would still be in the conferance finals...almost assuredly the Finals.</div> M.V.P isnt an award you can't base solely on stats, It's based on how well a player can play and how well their team does because of it. I'm not surprised at all Chauncey is up there, this is statistically his best season in the NBA and we're sitting nicely on 45-9, and while the Pistons are a teams team, I dont think you can argue Chancey isnt the main reason why we're finding so much sucess. I like to think of him as the glue that sticks the rest of our players talents together as one. You may be right, that with a Nash, Bibby or Parker we'd be in the same spot, how ever we dont have any of those guys, we have Chauncey, and you can also make the same case for San Antonio or Phoenix, that if they had Chauncey Billups instead of Parker or Nash they'd probally still be sitting in the same spots also. In saying all of that though, I dont expect Chauncey to win the award, I think that Kobe will probally get it, although I'm not really convinced he deserves it (even though he is having a big season).
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting vcwannabe15:</div><div class="quote_post">Thats a good Raptors/VC fan! </div> bandwagoner And why blame Babcock? Did he make Vince stop trying? Even though we paid him million of dollars to play a game and had supported him even when he was constantly injured. His charity work aside he screwed the city, the fans and himself. Lots of players do charity work...only Vince plays at 40% effort when the team needs him most and then plays if off like he was a victim. Oh and i CAN forget it...when he pays the Rap's back the approx 3.5 million he owes them for the first part of last season.

Thats why none of those players are MVP material in my opinion. The MVP's are players that cant be replaced with other non MVP type players. Like Duncan and Shaq. I'm not really sure who should be up for the MVP award...but i feel like Nash or Billups would just be rewarding the best player on a very talented team. Put Chauncey on a mediocre team...could they win? Maybe...maybe not. Put Shaq or Duncan on that team.....yes they could win. just my 2 cents

The thing is that the MVP award is not really clarified, their's no definate definition of it, but for the most part, people have made it the most impactful player on one of the Top teams.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting durvasa:</div><div class="quote_post">Kobe's rating would be: <font face=""Courier New""><font color=""DarkGreen"">28.6 + 42/2 + 79/4 + (42-34)/4 + [-5 + 2 + 1] = 69.35</font></font> Kobe misses a +4 bonus because Iverson isn't 10% less than him in scoring race (35ppg to 33ppg), and the -5 for not having a top-3 conference record also hurts. No MVP in the last 20 years finished less than 3rd in the conference. I projected games played to 79, and Lakers will win 42 games at current pace. Some other possible candidates: <font face=""Courier New""><font color=""DarkGreen"">Shawn Marion 28.8 + 56/2 + 82/4 + [-1] = 76.3 Elton Brand 29.4 + 47/2 + 79/4 + (47-37)/4 + [-5 + 1] = 71.1 Dwyane Wade 28.6 + 52/2 + 79/4 + [-1 + 1] = 74.4</font></font></div> You got marion at a higher rating than duncan who is in your top 5 but marion is not there.?????????
