    This is Cheaney's last year.

I agree mostly with your list, but I'd like to keep Zarko and/or Taft

Well first I think the Warriors need to develop an identity, a much better one. To me the Warriors are just a bunch of players with some talent on offense with scoring the basketball, put together and just are asked/expected to do too much on their owns without really any other identity or system or work as a team or unit.

I think building blocks for a good foundation can be found in Monta Ellis, Andris Biedrins, and maybe Ike Diogu. Monta already brings the defense, skills, athleticism, and the instincts and the savy. Ike Diogu brings some shot blocking, passing, scoring, and hopefully defense too. Andris Biedrins is strong on defense and just seems to be everywhere on the court and always in the right spots.

I think another solid block, if there was a coach there to discipline and even punish him, in Baron Davis. Baron is a very good playmaker on the NBA level. He's a good passer(second in the league in assists/game I believe) and is good at penetrating and dishing and that stuff.

I like Troy Murphy too. I don't know if he's a block for the team, it depends on what identity or style of play they want to have. But Murphy is a good scorer, strong rebounder, and he's been playing pretty good defense for the most part. I think he did another good job against Duncan last night. Like Baron, Murphy's producting and value could be helped by a good coach as well.

Jason Richardson's value to the team is kind of becoming iffy to me. I like him, I always have liked his mentality and his game. I just am not high on his value to the team right now. His value seems to be the team's number one scorer. This is good on the surface. But his defense is just not good at all, and he is not much of a passer or intiating offenses right now. So though he is the team's number one scorer, Jason not really being able to get others envolved and his bad defense kind of makes it iffy, especially if he's not scoring. I wouldn't deal Jason just to get rid of him. But I think with his BYC out he could be a player that could be gone this offseason for a player maybe better like a Paul Pierce or something like that, who knows...

I see the Warriors looking at a lot of potential deals this offseason. I won't be against movement at all, if they decide on what kind of team they finally want to build.

Someway or another there should be some type of changing, if it's the head coach or players or management, I really don't know. I am still hoping it would first be ownership though, hehe...

Guys to build with(I don't like the term around): Monta Ellis, Baron Davis, the front court minus Adonal Foyle(so Ike, Murphy, Andris, Taft). And first round draft picks.

Trade bait: If it's for trading up, I'd say everybody, including first round draft picks.

Time to go: Fisher, Foyle, Dunleavy, Mike Montgomery, Chris Cohan

    Keepers:
Monta- Guy can shoot the ball well, good ft shooter as well, plays D. Passes the ball well.

AB-Shoots 70% percent from the field. Takes good shots. Team player. Getting better on D. Good hustle player. Offensive rebounder good.

Taft (unless there's another reason other than back spasms that's keeping him from playing, like poor work ethic) - From what I seen from him I like his Defense and he has some post moves.

Adonal - He's not a bad back up center, still fairly good at blocks, sure he's terrible offensively, but still his defense is decent.

MP- I'd keep him as an energy guy, definitely not starter material yet. I think that's where he is most effective. Limited minutes and providing a spark defensively. Can score in bunches.

    Trade Bait

Baron - I like pass first pgs. The fact that he is a scoring pg that can't shoot just makes it worse. He is a great player though.

J-rich - If he could shoot FTs, he's a keeper for me. Problem is that he's getting a lot of money to be a star player on the team

Dunleavy - Can't shoot the ball when he is wide open. However if he could start hitting his shot at around 45% then I'd keep him because he plays a team game and not too bad on D. Big money, when he would be a nice complimentary bench player

Murphy - Great Rebounder can shoot FT and make jumpers, but not the type of PF I would want on my team because of his lack of D at times. Never been a big Murphy fan. He seems to ruin chemistry.

Fish - A playoff contender could definitely use his services. He's not a pg and is undersized at SG.

Ike - undersized and not very good on D, can't rebound well. Maybe he lost his confidence but his post up game has gone down hill. Just don't see anything positive about his play

    Time to go

    Zarko, Cheany, Monty.

He is 2nd in the league in assists at 9.4 per game. But, I do agree that he is a shoot first pg. However, he is so talented (skill-wise) that he is able to rack up the assists without even really trying. If he had the mentality of Steve Nash or Jason Kidd, he'd lead the league in assists just because he is so talented. Anyone agree?

I think on this franchise there are no keepers other than evaluating the next few players that can bring a strong balance between offense and defense and also having a few team skills.

I feel point guards, centers, and power forwards are hard to replace especially if they're pure position players. When it comes to big guys, I want some inside game, emphasis on pounding the glass, boxing out, setting screens, being able to pass from the high post a little, blocking shots, being able to finish in traffic, and having good mobility and hands. I like a cross between Amare Stoudamire aggressiveness and explosiveness with Chris Webber or Tim Duncan's all around skill.

When it comes to points I like them quick, under control, ability to see the floor well, and have good defensive and good shooting skills. My ideal point would be Steve Nash.

So I'd like to hold on to these guys unless something better comes along:
Biedrins (He's got some upside to be a Marcus Camby type PF/C with more of the dirty work. If he develops more offensive weapons, could be Jermaine O'neil, less range)
Ike (He could give us what Zach Randolph gives Portland, a legit post threat, decent rebounding, and gives us what Brian Cardinal would give us the dirty work, extra posessions, and terrific passing and like Foyle some blocked shots)
Monta Ellis (Tony Parker meets young Nick Van Exel or Gilbert Arenas, can block shots well)
Baron Davis (Steve Francis better passing, poorer shooting, energetic)
Jason Richardson to some extent (20 ppg scorers on a nightly basis are hard to find)

The next few I wouldn't mind trading if something better came along. I think they are the best shot to land a more complete player, but if not I'd keep them as they are:
Taft (young Antonio Davis meets Erick Dampier)
Zarko (Poor Man's Dirk without the rebounding or post game, Toni Kukoc)
Pietrus (Ricky Davis lite, less reliable on offense, a potential defensive stopper)
Jason Richardson (Super Desmond Mason, could be Michael Finley or slower Vince Carter)
    Troy Murphy (Mehmet Okur)
Derek Fisher (Damon Jones, more clutch, better D)

These are the guys that probably don't belong:

Foyle (Diop lite, less size and athletic skills, more polish. Not his fault he's a backup center, but has to accept the high expectations after signing a huge deal after playing mostly injured in 2003-2004)

Dunleavy(Until he can knock down shots, his role on the team is minimal. He's not a bad player, but he's a bad fit for a team that doesnt play with fundamentals or an identity)

So unless a bangup trade comes along or we finally land an impact player in the draft that can play big, I'd sit on the rookies and see what the current guys can give us. I'd also want my guards to hit their free throws and be able to move quickly off the ball or with the ball and play defense. I want my forwards to post up and be able to score inside some and alter some shots in the paint. I want good passing. If players aren't passing the ball well, don't make good decisions or are prone to mishandling the ball on the catch or dribble, it's not a good fit. I want my shooters to hit wide open shots and not brick them like Dunleavy does quite often. If they're 6'9-6'10, I want them on the block posting up the 6'8-6'7 lightweight forwards.

I'd keep Jrich and Murphy simply because we need consistent double digit scorers. We just suck if we don't have consistency.

So yeah that's how I'd want my team. I'm not asking for athletic freaks, but players that can play their position like they're supposed to, do a little bit of everything, but do at least three things well. I don't want shooting guards playing forward, no power forwards playing small forward, no centers playing like crap. A solid 5 on 5 attacking force if we can't land franchise players. Something that's capable of playing defense and setting the pace of the game. It's harder than it sounds I guess... because we're dependent on the draft.

IMO the only keeper on this team right now is Ellis. Everyone else should be negotiable.

The guys I really want gone are Dunleavy and Fisher. If we can't dump both, then Foyle's contract would mark him as a guy to go. I'd like to see Zarko,Taft get some real action before we deal them as minor filler. Taft may recover and be a durable player the next 10 yrs. At least he has not had too much exposure to Monty's offense which seems to make very good players average and average players liabilities. So far,The harm to Baron,Ike and Pietrus can quickly be fixed by a decent coach. Dunleavy I don't think ever really had big potential, and I think he's an honest guy who actually feels guilt about being overrated then overpaid. Fish is so damn confident he sees a buzzerbeater as just H-O-R-S-E in the driveway...but he also thinks hes Larry Bird,Karl Malone and Michael Jordan,so driving on a 7 ft shotblocker or firing a contested 30 footer,to him is "high %",he can go 2 -12,and only remember the ones he made. Cheaney expires.

I really doubt Monty can turn it around. He has improved overall defense. But I can't see any sense or logic in the offense...it's so erratic its hard to say anyone is executing or to see any plan or tactics in it

Fish Has lapsed into his volume shooter mode, again ,but Ellis seems to have rare instincts and SHOULD be playing PG now, ahead of Fisher. That would re-energize things. Baron will be back. He needs to give himself a reality check,to realize that the mission is to make an efficient feed to create SOMETHING that serves as an offense, but DON'T get reckless shooting.

Biedrens seems undamaged by the chaos, but he's only expected to put back missed shots, play D. Pietrus,J Rich, even Dun,IDEALLY would be attacking in transition, fast break mode, but the Fish does not run a fast break as well as Zarko,so they wind up with trying to drive into a pack-it-in D designed to lure Fish/dun into settling for 3's.

REREM I think that's a very honest assessment about everything. I still don't know what is up with Monty's small ball with Fish at sg, Murphy at center, Dunleavy at PF. While I admire the things that Dunleavy does in the team game, I just can't bash him anymore for all of his mediocre everything. It's like I've been doing it for so long over the years, it's just a waste of time. Besides, I think I only hated on Dunleavy because Barnett was being uber ridiclous about his game every single game when he hadn't done anything or wasn't even on the floor at the time being mentioned.

"I like Dunleavy, he passes and handles the ball well for a man 6'10" (unfortunately he plays most of the time like a girl that's 4'10")

"Dunleavy is reallly struggling tonight, Bob". (...AS USUAL .. as in every single night usual)

"Dunleavy should take more shots." (Yeah, so we can go on to miss 5 more shots very badly from the 3-point baseline)

"Dunleavy is a high basketball I.Q. player with an all around game. He kind of reminds me of Larry Bird." (Yeah if Larry Bird actually sucked)

Yeah, but now that Dunleavy isn't the focus of so much hype, don't really care much. It's still pretty disheartening to see him miss shots so badly especially so soon after his big contract extension. This ain't no Jrich/Murphy slump, it's hard to predict when he's due for a good game. Also his shots... They're like way on the side of the iron or airballs. Plus, he can't hit free throws very well for a guy that supposed to be a good shooter. What's really bad is that he's still better than Jrich at shooting at the foul line.

I think all 5 of the starting warriors players are not very efficient... and that's why we lose.

The trouble is even if you wanted to blow this team up you can't. We got too many overpriced contracts -- Foyle, Fisher (too long), Dunleavy (BYC) and soon to be MP.

You may be able to trade the Big 3 only because they put up numbers, but not enough wins to get to the POs.

I suppose we like rooks because they hold promise for the future, but they aren't exactly expensive either. I mean at one time, we were prolly saying the same things about Dun, JRich and Mupf when they made the rooks-sophs game.

This is where we disagree Jason... Foyle, Murphy, Fisher are all very movable. You'll have to give up 1 young guy to do so, but presumably, you can get back decent talent in return. I think the Warriors can move and upgrade this offseason without completely blowing the team up.

Unfortunately, Monty has been playing guys out of position which makes them look bad and lowers their trade value. Pietrus and Ike mainly. We'll see what happens.

    Untouchables: Biedris, Monta, Diogu, Baron

This is a core, a future. We've been waiting to say that for nearly 10 years. Those guys just need time. Please Mully do not mortgage our future for a grasp of the past (Garnett.) KG is attractive but all he brings is memories of a former MVP, not the push to a Championship.

Biedris is that most coveted asset, young, cheap, big, good hands. What a pick last year.

Diogu, low post scoring, unselfishness, toughness.

Ellis, speed and quickness with defense. He's starting to get respect for d which means less cheap fouls.

Baron, cannot win without a great PG. Watching him on TV in civvies, he's into the game and encouraging. Glad to see.

Dunleavy? Has shot well before, can do it again. Look at the improvement on D, wow. Learning D in the NBA is the hardest thing there is. Give credit where credit is due.

Hard to let go: JRich, Dunleavy

    Rest: Trade bait.

Davis (Untouchable). Sure, he can be handful, but it just makes world of difference of having and not having Davis.

Richardson (The only way we even think about trading him is when the return is KG): Improved all 5 seasons and constant 20 ppg threat. No way I will let him go.

Dunleavy (Somebody please take his contract... Somebody...): Mullin got his wishes, and Dunleavy will be a part of this team for a loooooong time because of his contract. Early investment really paid off, didn't it?

Murphy (Tough decision): Personally, I do like Murphy, and I want to keep him. But, our salary situation will get bad very quickly, and we only have Fisher and Murphy's contracts, which other teams will even consider accepting it. If we can exchange his contract for something good, there shouldn't be any hesitation. Even if we can dump his contract for an expiring contract, we really should consider about that option.

Foyle (Not going anywhere): The reason Foyle is little bit more tradable than Dunleavy is because he is center and has shorter and smaller deal than Dunleavy. But, nobody, including I. Thomas, will touch Foyle's 8.5 mils/4 years contract.

Fisher (Dump it when the stock is hot): Dump his contract when you can do so. I love his 3 pts shooting, but his decisions at 4th quarters are shaky at best. Let Monta takes that role.

Monta (Unless he has to be traded for KG...): Not going anywhere.

Pietrus (Unless you can cash in...): Well, his first try at starting job has been up and down. If some team wants to give a stud for Pietrus, we should consider it, especially when the chance of resigning him is very low. But, if that doesn't happen, keep him and see how he improves in his contract year.

I would say listen to offers for all of them except for Biedrins and Monta for their solid skills, J-Rich (for the fan base and scoring), Pietrus for being a bit of a match-up problem and for being a great 6th man and , Murphy for being a big guy who can shoot and is getting better.
Definitely shop Baron while his stock is still fairly high - his improving the team is now shown to be an illusion when their record is no better than last year's. And shop Dunleavy who is basically just a really good college player.
ON THE FENCE - Ike, do you risk trading him? What if he becomes the shotblocker of his generation 2 or 3 years from now?

    Untouchable: Baron, Biedrins, Ike, Monta

Trade Bait: Pietrus, Taft, Fisher, Zarko

Get rid of at all costs: Foyle, Dunleavy

I'm not really sure where J-Rich fits, I don't want to move him but if a deal for Pierce/Garnett type player arises then I would deal him. I would love to ship Foyle off, maybe package him with Pietrus and send them to Memphis (West has a mancrush on Pietrus) for Lorenzen Wright S&T + filler.
