Great news, with Colangelo as GM and Embry as assistant (I'm assuming), we're going to be in great hands for the near future. I hope he likes challenges though [IMG]

Colangelo should definitely help with recruiting some marquee free agents this summer too. Now he can work on convincing Nash, Amare and Marion to jump ship to Toronto......[IMG]

^^ hoopshype is actually quite credible.. well only in the sense that all of the news that it reports are links from newspapers across the states (& toronto)..

but yeah.. that's absolutely great news if it's indeed true! from what i've read, i think altho nothing's been completely finalized, it's only just a matter of crossing the t's and dottin' the i's.. it should certainly help bosh's decision-making if he can believe there to be a stable front-office in place (headed by colangelo) who'll work hard to put a good team around him.. there's no reason why colangelo can't and won't build a similar-type run-and-gun team like phoenix..

    great move..
wayne embry and bryan colangelo both just ooze credibility.. that's gotta help with attractin' talents and dealin' w' agents..

and another thing.. with this signing.. doesn't it slightly increase the chances of nash coming to play for toronto once this contract runs out? by then, nash would be well into his late 30's and he'll either want to retire or play on his last contract.. wouldn't it be a nice send-off for kid canada to play for canada's only team b4 he retires? even if it's only a season and as a backup..

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Bryan Colangelo, Suns’ President and General Manager, has resigned his position with the team.

“Bryan has decided that his preference is to leave the Suns, and under those circumstances, we saw no other option other than to accept his decision, “ said Suns Managing Partner Robert Sarver in making the announcement.

“At the time we bought the team, we agreed to a new three-year contract with Bryan,” continued Sarver. “Dating back to last summer, I assured Bryan of my intention to extend his contract. I’m disappointed with Bryan’s decision but I wish him well.”

“I couldn’t be more excited about the future of our team,” Sarver said. “With Steve Nash, Shawn Marion, Amaré Stoudemire and Mike D’Antoni, our team continues to be headed in the direction of the goal we all share, creating sustainable success for the Phoenix Suns and winning an NBA Championship.”

“We will proceed methodically in deciding Bryan’s replacement but in the meantime we have a tremendous basketball staff in place and they will take on additional responsibilities in the interim.” </div>

Good move by the Raptors, you saw what Colangelo did with the Phoenix Suns, so maybe he could do a good job rebuilding the Raptors around Bosh.

hmm...from what i read, the reason he came was because he is not exactly hot with the sun's current owner Sarver...who is not giving him much room for creativity and power
secondly, toronto pays him $3 million...way more than the $1 million he is getting in phoenix
The third thing, which i feel is the key, is that he gets more than just a GM role...possibly also the president of basketball operations, and THAT means a lot...lots of power, and very little of peddie...at least i hope that's the case

Peddie will not have anything to do with the raptors anymore. Colangelo has complete controle over all the basketball operations now.

this is incredible. With Colangelo here we will no doubt be able to lure a big free agent up here this summer with all of our cap space (come on Nene) and gain instant credibility in the league. This is one of the best things ever to happen to the Raptors, and i think it will also help sway CB4 to stay here as he sees all the steps we are taking to build a championship contender.

    Oh, well...

I hate to lose him, being a suns fan, but it's good to see the optamism for someone who's treated us so good. Bottom line, he's getting more control and more money, as well as being able to leave the Jerry Colangelo shadow and do his own thing. The only thing I hate is to lose him mid season when things are going so well for my suns. At least it doesn't appear to be a messy break up that could distract from the season, and it happened after the trade deadline.

he would've been in line for about 9 million a year, but since there are now injury problems and questions about his toughness (which there shouldn't be), I would think that he'll get in the range of 6-8 mill a year.
