Ok .. I just got off the phone with a friend who is a junior consultant on the MLSE Board Of Governers. She doesn't really have any major basketball knowledge and most of their work is strictly business. But she assured me that the thing Larry Tenebaum was stressing on the most this time other than any time before is that he wants the new GM (in this case Colangelo) to have an absolute full control over the basketball operations and the basketball staff.

After I bugged her with some questions, she mentioned to be that Larry T wants Peddie to have no say WHATSOEVER in any basketball decisions, and that Colangelo does not have to consult Peddie on anything. Peddie's duties are now strictly business and Maple Leaf related.

Embry will remain a consultant on the Raps front office and is there for Colangelo to help him whenever the new GM asks for help.

She doesn't know I'm posting this right now, but whatever [IMG]

PS: She said they just arranged for a press conference tomorrow at 2 PM.

Take it for what it's worth.

I believe it. Colangelo wasn't going to take this job if he had to run his decisions by Peddie or anyone else. In order for him to do his job, he needs to have the final say on any moves.

I'm curious to see if Colangelo looks at the roster and tries building this team like the Suns. If he does, don't be surprised to see Marc Iavoroni replacing Sam Mitchell as head coach. Iavoroni is the assistant coach in Phoenix, and the main architect of the Suns offense.

Obviously not Nash, but the Raptors might be able to find a PG with similar playmaking ability. Maybe they can target someone like Luke Ridnour.

Charlie V has the skillset to play Marion's role.

Good info Fever. This is what should have happened from the get-go. He should be staying on the business end of things, and leave the basketball issues to the basketball people. Too bad for the Leafs though.

Iavoroni would be great prospect to bring in as coach. Frankly, I was surprised he didn't get a head coaching job this year. What I'm more happy about is that Colangelo will probably bing his own people in the organization (scouts, management, etc.). Considering his connections and reputation, I think our organization will probably improve in all aspects of the decision-making.

Iavoroni got a few coaching offers, but he turned all of them down.

I don't think you guys are right about Iavaroni being a great pickup and that there is a possibilty of him replacing Mitchell. Firstly, in my opinion Sam has done a very good job considering he is only a second year head coach, and he also has a great relationship with Chris Bosh. I certainly think it is in the best interest of the Raptors to keep Sam, not only for his coaching abilities, but also his sway in CB4 re-signing. One more factor in Sam Mitchells favor is that he and Wayne Embery like each other and see eye to eye, and Colangelo made it very clear in the press conference that he respects Wayne's opinion very much, which will certainly work in Mitchell's favour. I look for Sam to get an extension this summer to stop him from becoming a lame duck coach, and to instill some continuity in the Raptors oragnization.

There is a great chance Sam Mitchell gets an extension. I remember reading some discussion about it prior to Colangelo taking over.

I disagree with you about Iavaroni not being a great pickup. Whoever lands him is going to have one of the best offensive minded coaches in the league. Whether it's in Toronto or not remains to be seen. He's one of the best big man coaches in the game today, every where he's been he's had success. How you came to the conclusion he won't be a great pickup I'd like to hear?

When the Raptors made the commitment to Colangelo they made the commitment to his vision as President/GM. He's going to put the team together the way he wants because it has proven to be successful. I'm sure prior to signing he met with Sam Mitchell and outlined some of his ideas of how he wants to put this team together. I'm sure Sam Mitchell will get the opportunity to be a part of Colangelo's vision, but if Sam doesn't agree with it, or can't make it work, he'll be replaced.

Chris Bosh is a lock to resign, IMO. Toronto can pay him the most money, and are willing to invest in him being the franchise player. Going out and picking off last year's Executive of the Year just shows Bosh the Raptors are serious about turning this franchise around in a hurry.

I believe Colangelo will still have to run things by Peddie. Peddie still has the final say. Here's what the espn article said:

"The Raptors reportedly signed Colangelo to a multiyear deal worth $3 million a year. The job gives him more power over basketball operations than he had with the Suns, and he'll report to Peddie."
