<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">It was reported by our man Scott Cain last week that an unidentified NBA scout in the once-respected Sports Illustrated dissed Arkansas Razorbacks basketball player Ronnie Brewer. Basically, what the unidentified NBA scout said was Brewer has the ugliest shot he's ever seen, is not an off-the-chart athlete, doesn't defend and doesn't rebound. And he's not a great passer. The unidentified scout said he was a first-round pick, but late. Forget the speculation that Brewer will pass on his senior season and become an instant NBA millionaire next season. Any decision by Brewer won't be made until the completion of this season, which now looks to be extended.</div>

Well considering at least 5 teams that will be in the Lottery next season have been to see his last 5 games, I think they are more than interested. Can't pass or defend? Thats what all the scouts RAVE about him. It's no question his jumper is sad, but if you personally dislike a player, no need to try and put him on blast by simply sounding like an arrogant jackass. If his D and his passing was suspect, I could see it, but NO ONE is on the fence about this guys athleticism, passing, and defense.

Exactly. You have to love the irony of calling him a poor defender. This is the same player all the scouts were blown away by at Maui when Brewer outplayed Rudy Gay.

    ^^^^^^

forgot to add, the reason Brewer has such an ugly jump shot, is due to a childhood accident. He broke a bone near his tricep which healed wrong, causing him to have to learn to shoot with an abnormal form. I wonder if this "scout" took that into concideration before shooting off at the mouth.

I pretty much dismiss it when someone tries to hate on his jumper. First off, while it's wacky, it works, and he has range. Second, he can get to the rack at will, so he'll be able to get his points whether his jumper is pretty or not. He'll also get to the line.

Beyond that, his outside shot is just a miniscule part of his game. He can score a variety of ways, he's a very, very good playmaker for his size, he rebounds, and he's one of very few players who will be polished defensively right out of the box when he gets to the NBA. I scoff at someone saying he doesn't defend. He's a good on ball defender, he's long and he sticks on his man, he's very aggressive and always has a hand in someone's face. He also has the awareness to play passing lanes when guarding a smaller player and pick off entry passes and post feeds when he's on a bigger guy.

I really don't see any problems with Brewer. Is he J.J Redick? No, but he gets the job done, whether his jumper is silky smooth or not. I think any GM would regret passing on him just because of his shot.

Yeah, I love Brewer, when he couldn't get it going with just 9 points against Tennessee, he came up huge with 9 assists. I see nothing wrong with his jumper, it may be funky and ugly, but it goes in. He is a solid scorer, and I think he should still be drafted in the top 10.

But then again, look at Josh Childress. He barely uses his jump shot now, and his scoring has gone down since his rookie season. But nevertheless, he can still score solidly from layups and dunks and is like what, 2nd in field goal percentage? Not to mention he still chips in a 3 now and then.
