if the o-line doesn't get any better, the Panthers are not going to make the playoffs...it was frustrating to see Davis or Foster take the handoff and go to hit the hole, and a defender is there to meet him...the inability to open holes for the rb's is killing the d-line...all d-lines get exhausted by the middle of the 4th quarter, and they way to keep them off the field is to run the ball effectively at the end of the game...the stats on nfl.com for the game show 90yds on 33att...that is 2.72ypa...not going to go anywhere or keep our defense off the field with those numbers...being that it is a new crew, yet again, i am hoping they can begin to gel like last years line did in the 2nd half of the season...it just needs to be prior to week 8 this year
I like the panthers pass protection. It is a lot better than last year. Gross just needs to be a little more agressive at hitting the DE, and Wharton is doing a lot better than expected. Tutan Reyes a bad run blocker, so i hope sometime we will switch to Evan Mathis
You have to give the Packers' defense some credit there. Jim Bates's scheme is designed to stop the run by gobbling up the offensive linemen and freeing the middle linebacker to make plays on the backs. It's a good system and the Packers' run D is pretty good this year, all things considered. Pass defense? Well...that's another story.
Tutan Reyes was getting pushed back everytime he tryed to run block against Grady Jackson. please put Mathis in the game John Fox!! Mathis has tons of strength and i a good run blocker with a nasty streak

Jim Bates would be god around here. But because of the teams struggles. The improvement of the D is very overlooked as of now. It's the decline in the offense that has us at 0-4. Panthers def need to improve there pass coverage if there going to go anywhere this year. Good news for them is theres no real strong passing team in the divsion besides maybe the Saints if Brooks is having a solid day.
i wasn't talking about the pass protection...you can't efficiently kill the clock with the passing game, at least not in hennings scheme...i specifically mentioned that the run blocking needed improvement to keep the defense off the field late in the game...the panthers are tied for the 6th worse per game rushing average at 3.3ypc...the panthers scheme is run, run, run, to set up the pass, and then run, run, run, to keep the defense on the bench...i understand that jim bates is an excellent d-coordinator, but it has been that way for 3 of the 4 games this year... 5.6ypc week 1 vs NO 2.9ypc week 2 vs NE 2.3ypc week 3 vs MIA 2.7ypc week 4 vs GB except for NO, the others held us to less yards per carry than what they have been giving to other teams...that means the panthers are getting pushed around on running plays, not vice versa...therefore, the o-line needs to improve...
When we run to the outside we are effective, but running straight up the middle we dont have enough push from Reyes and Mitchell to drive back the defenders
